With David Smoak, Paul Catalina, & Craig Smoak
The PAC 12 will be around as long as the Big 10 allows them to be. When the Big 10 wants to go shopping again, the PAC turns into the Mountain West instantly.
Amen. In 2020 during the peak of COVID shutdowns, the Big 10 arrogantly announced they were “canceling” the 2020 football season, expecting all of CFB to follow their lead. The only Power 5 conference to follow their lead was the PAC 12, which should have come as no surprise to anyone who has followed CFB since the early 80’s.
As an aside, the best thing the Sun Belt ever did was try like hell to play a full schedule in 2020. Now people realize they don’t completely suck.
100% right!!!!!
@@markd2344 Big 10 played in 2020.....Rutgers went 3-6.........which was a success for them!
@@markd2344The Sunbelt still sucks. However, bad football is better than no football at all.
That's true of the Big 12 and the ACC also
Boise has earned a power 5 spot.
No
Unfortunately on field success doesn’t mean as much as it should. TV market is the 1st 2nd and 3rd most important thing.
Fan base is small as is stadium........36,000........
@@joeblow7407 Not to defend the Pac (I would rather eat dirt), but look at the capacity of Wazzou (32,952) at Martin, OSU
(26,407) at Reser. Both have about the same seat capacity as New Mexico. As for possible additions, SMU (32,000[) at Ford Field Tulane (30,000 ) at Yulman. And CSU (32,000) at Canvas. I don't think they are looking at seating for backfill teams.
@@vernonsheldon-witter1225 Totally aware of that...........none of these teams compete at a high level....They no longer matter........Note stadiums in Big 10 and SEC........many over 100,000............Its gotten out of hand........Its now PRO football.........PAC 12 is finished........Big 12 needs to invite Arizona, ASU, Utah and Colorado NOW!!!!! Enough.......Yormark had no college background........a pro background in marketing.....they knew where this was heading........SEC, Big 10 and Big 12 in collusion.......Arizona vs Texas Tech and Arizona State vs Houston will be sensational in football and basketball........West Virginia vs Cincinnati will be great.......Colorado vs Kansas.......the old Big 8.........GREAT!!!!!.............Oklahoma State vs BYU........very interesting!!!!!
The Pac dug their own grave with this elitist BS. IDFK how you don't immediately add at the BARE MINIMUM SDSU and SMU the moment the LA schools announce their exit, and likely UNLV and Boise St. as well. UNLV is a bit of a wildcard, but the others are instant money. Boise has the viewership from their history as a BCS buster/NY6 team, SDSU keeps them in So Cal, and SMU is literally loaded with $$$$$$$$$
Good comment!!!!!
@@EverydayEurope Another insightful comment. This board has smart folks!!!!!
Pac 12 schools don't want BSU because they recruit against them already, and joining the PAC will only help their recruiting
Boise already has strong relationships to the PAC 12 north. Being "ready" isn't really an argument than a fear. Fear isn't something that the state of Idaho does. UNLV has great facilities. San Diego sure does love itself and SMU has fertile recruiting lands. Add them all, survive and MOVE ON.
SMU is the 7th largest fanbase in North Texas. Even UNT is larger. If SMU were worth adding the Big 12 would have done it years ago.
Doesnt the PAC12 lose its P5 (autonomous 5) status if too many member institutions leave. So with USC, UCLA, and possibly Oregon, Washington, Arizona, Colorado leaving in a realignment. Wouldn't that be enough to strip the PAC12 of that status.
P5 is a fabricated term, it would require the collective conscious/people/media to collectively decide they aren’t P5, it isn’t like a “if x teams leave or if x amount of teams leave they’re no longer p5” do u know what I mean
I imagine the pac would just backfill with various G5 schools to reach the minimum.
@@amac701 yes, and that's the problem. Fillings with G5 schools is what makes them lose the status. They can't lose more than a certain percentage of its original membership.
@@mark_a_vigil I've heard things about a certain percentage of the original teams, but I don't know the specific requirements.
@@amac701 me neither, I don't know a specific number. But I have been looking for it, so that I'm not spouting out things like an idiot. I remember it was thrown around at the very beginning of the realignment talk when it was just Oklahoma and Texas moving. But I haven't found anything about it recently.
I wouldn’t join until we all know the media deal. And after joining, if the deal is bad, schools are going to leave the P12.
BSU has the national brand the history the national viewership. People even in the DMV area know who Boise State is.
Hahahahahaha didn't BSU get throttled by a 5-7 UTEP last year?
@@ReisterJP its one game its college football any week anyone can beat you
if you want to roll with the big boys, you have to beat the gatekeepers like UTEP.
SIDE NOTE.........The Big 12 is very popular in the Northeast where I reside.......People on the coasts just need more exposure to the great history of Big 12 schools like Kansas and Oklahoma State, etc........Fabulous. Part of America. Yormark is a Northeast media guy........Note the TV guy who does a lot of Big 12 TV football and basketball games on ESPN.....A guy named Bob Wishusin.......one of the best.........Do people know he's the New York Jets radio voice? He does a college game and flies in for the Jets THE NEXT DAY.........Basketball color guy Fran Fraschilla (the best) is from NYC.......bringing that New York flavor in is not by accident.......these PRO leagues will draw attention coast to coast........TCU and Baylor is just great........Bob Lilly was a TCU guy......Mike Singletary at Baylor etc.............GONNA BE BIG!!!!!
By the way.........Hall of Fame legends Gale Sayers and John Riggins went to.........Kansas..........Barry Sanders and Thurman Thomas went to Oklahoma State........Before winning two Super Bowls as coach of the Cowboys and an NCAA championship at Miami (Fla) Jimmy Johnson began his coaching career at.........Iowa State......Interesting!!!!
What is with all the Ellipsis?
I do not think it means what you think it means.
None, it’s not going to exist soon
100% correct!!!!
Nobody wants to move to the big 12.
Bingo. It's why SDST said thanks but no thanks
@@paulmkz how about DSTD?
@@ReisterJP SDST will end up in big 12 with Colorado, Arizona, Utah, Arizona St, and Uconn IMO when it's all said and done
At the moment the Pac 12's long-term existence is dicey so I'm thinking about the Big 12. I'm glad where the Big 12 is at right now. But as to the future of the Big 12, to remain relevant, to remain too large to ignore, and to compete against the Power 2, I think the Big 12 should pick up--when possible--Arizona, Arizona State, Colorado, and even San Diego State. And looking East maybe Tulane and to make 18, apparently because Yormark wants it, Connecticut. My $0.02.
Totally CORRECT!!!!!! A very smart individual....Utah first and theN San Diego State.......On the road to 20....then 24?????
@@joeblow7407 Utah has clarified that they want no part of the Big 12. They will have to lie in the bed they made for themselves.
Boise and Memphis would save either conference. They both need big brands with hardcore fans!
Neither can save anyone....Come on with that nonsense.........Stop!!!!
Neither meets PAC academic requirements. Plus, does Memphis hate the AAC so much that they are willing to fly to the West Coast for at least 10 Basketball games and 5-6 Football gamers per year?
SMU in the PAC12 is ridiculous. If WVU felt out of place with traveling in the Big XII then SMU would be in the same boat but worse.
Well if they stay together they should add san Diego st fresno st smu and bosie st
Boise State and Fresno State aren't going to happen. Remember who decides? The school Presidents! Therefore it's not a Football decision.
@@DuckRon626 Correct!!!!
@@DuckRon626 Not enough academic heft at either to be real candidates. Cal and Stanford would have siezures.
Maybe the Pac 12 is starting to figure out TV contracts don't care about academics.
I also want the Big 10 to sleep with my Whyfe
Why is boise overlooked? They beat all these chumps in the pac 2
I don’t see BSU going to PAC and especially now. They’ve been down that road before and PAC has been snooty towards MW teams. The PAC will be better off doing ACC and making more changes in a few years again. MW is a solid G5 conference. I also hope that SDSU and San Jose stay too. The competition has been good for some time.
I suppose PAC can take UNLV. Just kidding. Even the lowly teams come around eventually.
Hmmm
Blue Mountain State
Roast Beef Tech
Arbys
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
I guess whoever is a research institution with high academics. That's what they say is the requirement.
Wyoming, Idaho, New Mexico and New Mexico St.
Add Sacramento State uc-davis University of San Diego
@@mollycaz1 indeed and I’ll say Montana and Montana St as well. They’re all going to get to 20-24 so gotta go for it.
No, no, no and no. Unless you are trying to build another Sun Belt type conference.
What about Harvard??????? I am happy New Mexico State is in Conference USA.........They are getting better!
@@Mistertwist. Love Montana and Montana State.....but NO NIL money!!!!
If Boise and UNLV join then that means 2 left
Neither meets the PAC academic expectations.
Four
Memphis , Bosie, Fresno are not getting a pac 12 invite. It is SMU , San Diego state , maybe Tulane, UNLV
You do know that unlike SMU, Memphis is R1 and not highly ranked academically but does meet the requirements for academics in most conferences; including PAC whatever # they will be. I agree with you on Tulane and actually Tulsa and Rice more than meet academic requirements and standards of PAC12 but their size will hurt them. Tulane is large enough but other two are not. This also applies to some D1AA schools that are AAU but size is an issue. And when I say size it’s not necessarily their football stadium sizes or basketball arenas or volleyball courts and such. I am talking about student enrollment and campus as a whole and reach nationally and internationally. Some MWC schools that do meet the requirements of academics of the PAC are as follows:
UNLV
Hawaii
Nevada
Wyoming
Utah State
New Mexico
Colorado State
Air Force
Schools in AAC that meet the requirements for academics but note some of these schools can’t be considered or added until 3-5 years down the road.
UTSA
Tulsa
UNT
Rice
Tulane
Memphis
UAB
Temple
Navy
USF
FAU
Charlotte
Please note I am not saying PAC should add all of these schools or any of these schools. Some are too far East. Some are too new to R1 or too new to AAU or too new to their current conference and would be financial suicide to leave for another conference in less than three years or one year time frame.
@@michaelwall3393they don’t have to be r1. Utah wasn’t. Asu wasn’t. Smu is a highly rated university still
Some people just like to regurgitate bullshit they hear. This is one of those instances.
UTSA is a better Texas Market than SMU. Plenty of upside.
@@iiSwearTV yes they were R1 just not AAU.
Boise State is the best G5 left with ratings out there. They are better than San Diego State and SMU. PAC 12 can't be choosey right now. Boise State have been upgrading their facilities for a long time. Their last upgrade in adding seats to their stadium was 2012. Plus, Boise State would help Washington State out. The city of Boise is top 10 fastest growing cities in the US. Boise State's academics is growing. They are an R2 just like SMU and San Diego State. If PAC 12 don't want their academics? Than SMU and San Diego State can't get in either.
San Diego State is the ONLY choice..........The PAC 12 needs a strong California presence.......Boise State can help Washington State out when the Cougars join the Mountain West!!!!! Boise State over SD State????? WHAT?????
Academics?
@@vernonsheldon-witter1225 Boise State is an R2. San Diego State is an R2. SMU is an R2. All 3 are at the same level. Boise State outspends SMU in academics.
@@Spitfirethedragon Yet they are not even being considered for membership. Now what does this say to you?
@@Spitfirethedragon, None of them will get by Stanford or Cal, and get into the PAC. SDSU stands probably the best chance but screwed themselves. SMU hardly has a fanbase at all.
If no deal is done by mid season, I'm thinkin that Oregon and Washington will bolt for
the Big 10 ... leaving two more holes to fill .. UNLV is a good candidate, maybe San Jose St ?
To date, neither Oregon or Washington have an invite. And, the Big 10 doesn't seem like they want be the ones to blow up the Pac anymore than they already have.
Stanford and Cal also going Big 10..........
I would think they would want SDSU, UNLV, Boise, SMU, Tulane, and South Florida
South Florida????
@@STC987 if they want to stretch across the country, yeah. I don’t see any other school worth it out east
@@brandonh5360ot going to add one school all the way across the country. That makes absolutely zero sense and is financially irresponsible. I also have not heard any interest that the PAC wants to spread across the entire country. The Big 12 says that.
Tulane is NOT getting involved at a level where you need lots of NIL money.........Its an academic school who JUST had one big year!!!!
@@STC987 South Florida will eventually go to Big 12......UCF rivalry important for league in Florida!!!!!
Colorado State, UNLV, SDSU. Boise and Fresno are not academically qualified. SMU is one of the least favorable additions they could want. It would not get them any attention in the Central Time Zone or a window into Texas recruiting. Tulane keeps getting mentioned, but it is too far east.
Tier 1
San Diego State
Tier 2
SMU
Tier 3
Tulane
Tier 4
Colorado State
Rice
USF
Tier 5
Air Force
UNLV
Boise State
Memphis
Leave those drugs alone man
Tulane, Rice and Air Force are three of the great academic institutions in America.......This whole thing is a waste for them.........Time to separate the universities from the PRO football teams and basketball teams.......
@@joeblow7407 that would be smart but these schools aren’t there yet
