truly one of Sondheim's best. A quiet, beautiful, complicated call-and-response. this version will forever live on-and Susan Browning's voice is just absolute perfection
I’ve always loved this song. Not one of the more famous songs from this show but I love the tempo, simplicity, and the great chord changes. I would love to have seen this cast. Seen the show a few times but not until the 90’s
i just recently came to know Susan Browning by way of 'Mary Hartman, Mary Hartman' in the role of Nurse Pat Gimble. It's interesting to see just how talented she was. She had such a beautiful voice (even speaking) and had such a gentle aura about her. I was saddened to learn she had passed away. RIP Susan
She was nominated for a Tony for this role. A incredible song. Maybe only Sondheim could write a song like this. I cherish the video of the cast recording.
if you look at the songs leading up to this song and after in the soundtrack, you would expect another intense, hectic number. however, sondheims genius mind added a song with simplicity and peace. which is what I think makes the song so much more beautiful. i will forever love this song
I love song...I listen to it a lot...I think I have the dialogue memorized, word for word...I really like it when he sings: "You're a special girl, June!" And she corrects him right away and says her name is "April." Ha ha...Love it.
Dean Jones was released from his contract just weeks after the show opened. the show just a month after it opened. Larry Kert, his stand-in, took over the role of Robert for the remainder of the run. Larry Kert is the only cast replacement to be nominated for a Tony Award; he replaced Dean Jones shortly after Company opened in 1970.

Love this song the most out of the whole soundtrack, I think. I can't understand why it's not more popular. It's beautiful and poignant.

@@LunarShimmerthat’s saying a lot. It is a special song
It’s my favourite Sondheim song. I think think it’s perfect
Such a privilege to see such talent! Thank goodness it is preserved. Thank you
Her vocal is crystal clear here, almost as though she's singing directly into my ear. Beautiful. One of Sondheim's best, thus one of the best ever.
I realize it's kinda randomly asking but do anybody know of a good website to watch new series online ?
@Tomas Killian I watch on flixzone. You can find it by googling :)
@Raymond Korbin definitely, I've been using flixzone for years myself :)

What a marvelous song from an absolutely magnificent show!
Liking the napping part at the beginning-song must have felt dream-like.
RIP Susan, didn't know she had died, such a lovely soul, you can tell from this alone....
❤❤❤❤
Dean Jones was an amazing talent. First seen him in the original Herbie movie. Susan was something special as well. Both are missed
Good by and rest well Dean-you were a special person with a great talent!
A restored version of this docummentary is now available from Criterion.
gorgeous
What interesting rhythms.
Love it!
Lol i felt that "ooooohhh God". Been there hahaha
I guess they recorded the album so late at night after a performance. They could rest the next day until the next evening
As Steven said, "Great, Sensational".
That was Thomas Shepard, the album producer, but agreed!
@3:16 “Great, baby! Where’s my highball? Somebody bring me an ascot! It’s freezing in here!”
Qué hermoso , me gustaría transportarme en el tiempo y estar ahi
RIP Susan Browning!
So pretty, so witty.
He kept going, and in the same vibe wrote “Pretty Women.”
Anybody else hear it?
Yup
My mother went to PSU with her.
the tension between these two...
Dean Jones was perfectly cast for the role. Beautiful song by Sondheim.

Can anyone tell me if that song is perfect for sleeping? If so,reply to me!
"Oh." LOL
Dean Jones’ suffering is almost too close to the skin. No wonder he had to leave the cast.
I highly prefer the 2006 version....
Where they played the instruments? Raul Esparza? I liked that a lot but like the 2022 version the best.
Great voices but this is a horrible song.
