I go back and forth between the 12 CS and the 15 as my favorite, but the price of the 15 is getting way too expensive. They both are. I might get to the point I just do the standard 12 and save some money. That would be unfortunate.
Hi Peter, I’m torn between this and the Redbreast Lustau. The CS sounds fantastic, but your description of the RBL in your other review also caught my attention. To be honest, I’m not usually a fan of Irish whiskeys; I often find them lacking in flavor and too well-rounded compared to scotch. However, I’ve heard great things about Redbreast and I’m eager to give Irish whiskeys another try.
Blue spot and Redbreast 12 cask strength are basically buy on sight if I don't have a backup bottle. They just represent peak irish whiskey for me. Great review!
I see Blue Spot 1 time a year at the big box stores. So far I missed it twice. The label was on the shelf with no bottles. I asked the clerk and they said I missed it by 2 days each time.
@@whiskeyisajourney I feel you on that one. I'm lucky in that I have a lot of great hunting grounds near me (Maryland, New Jersey, New York) so I've been able to keep Blue spot stocked, but it's getting tougher.
Great review, like always Peter. I absolutely love this one. To bad the price in Arizona( Total Wine in Tempe) went from $87 to $112 and back down to $94 within a year.
That's crazy. I'd love to see it drop in price. My bottle is almost gone. I saw Batch B1-22 at the Total Wine at the 75th Ave store today. I have B1-21. I was tempted to pick it up. I lift it alone and picked up a the store pick of Fiddler Georgia Heartwood Single Barrel instead.
@whiskeyisajourney B1-21 is what I have, too. A friend of mine got me a sample of the 15 year old, but I did a blind and the cask strength 12y beat it easily. Definitely not worth the $135.
Great review Peter! I have a bottle of this that I haven’t gone to much since I picked up a bottle of the Redbreast 15. I tend to favor the flavors in the 15 but this review makes me want to try them head to head again.
we did a blind with RB12 and Greenspot, just to see which one we liked best. The GS won for me... would love to have GS at cast strength.... but RB is easy #2 of my fav, have not had a bad batch. Lustau is also wonderful... you should do blinds between two whiskeys, your sister or wife could pour them for you... love those vids and they are surprising. great vid cheers
Thanks. Great suggestion and as coincidence has it...I am going to change up my Friday videos starting in August and put in blind battles between 2 whiskeys. Cheers!
Another great review, Peter. RB12 CS is on my 'wanted' list. I'm just starting to gravitate toward the higher proofs in my journey. Fred Minnick, another whisker reviewer, recommends letting it breathe for 1 minute for every year it's been in the cask. Probably to let any sulfur gas out.
Great video. I got to do a tasting with Redbreast all the way up to 27 year which was perhaps the best whiskey I have ever tasted. It had this amazing raspberry flavor. We tried the 12 which was great but very interested in the cask strength as we didnt have that. Found one for 99 and will have to take the plunge.
I will be doing a First Friday Flight Fight with the Redbreast line up very soon. Unfortunately for me my Redbreast 27 is one of my least favorite bottles I have in my collection. It will be interesting to see how it does against the rest of the lineup all in one flight. Cheers!
@@whiskeyisajourneyI look forward to warching that. For the money the 12 was top notch. I loved the 27 but 650 is not something I will spend 200 is my cap.
I love Redbreast 12 , haven’t tried the cask strength yet. I will definitely grab one if I see it based on the brand and your review. I’ll definitely let you know what I think and the price I paid if I get it. Thanks for sharing.
Ever since I got past the ABV burn I hardly ever reach for the standard RB12 anymore. Looking forward to hearing what you think of it once you try it. Cheers.
It ranks up there with the best. I saw a batch B1-22 the other day and thought about buying it. My current battle is batch B1-21 and just about empty. I might go back and get it and compare the 2 batches.
@@whiskeyisajourney I don't know how you have time to revisit anything! There is so much that is new and interesting coming to the market that it is very rare that I buy a second bottle of anything. You must be buying at twice the rate that I am, how do you keep up?
Running a UA-cam channel I struggle with that exact thing. I'm close to 400 bottles in my collection and I started drinking whisk(e)y on January 14th 2022. A lot of my bottles have 4oz poured out of them and are sitting on my shelf waiting to be revisited/ reviewed. I have a lot of current releases but the way that my channel is formatted I'm struggling to get those reviews out. I need to revamp how I review whiskeys on my channel so I can address more of the current releases.
The CS 12 is just special. It's $98 for me, but what a great experience.
I agree. It's a good one. Cheers.
One of my favorite Irish Whiskey's as well. It goes for $99.99 in Alabama. The 15yr goes for $139.99, I prefer the 12yr CS myself.

I don't think you can go wrong with either the Lustau, 12 Cask Strength, or the PX. They are all very good.

Glad RB12CS is always available by me
We are spoiled here in Ireland with all the amazing whiskey

Love the 12CS hate the new $99 price
I'm right there with you about the price.
Redbreast Lusteau is also great
It is. I just picked up the new Tawny Port. I've only had a taste, but IMO it might be the weakest of the lineup. ☹️
Compare Redbreast cast strength to Blue Spot. Thanks.
It's in the blind samples. Just a matter of time before it's drawn.
Here in the Netherlands the CS is 113 euro (about 125 dollar). I may buy it anyway though
$125 might be a little too high, but I would probably still buy it.
@@whiskeyisajourney yes, just once though 😃 my wife would kill me if it would become a standard purchase
I don't think I've ever tasted a better Single Pot Still Irish whiskey.
I like where your heads at! Cheers!
I thought it had hints of butterscotch ?
I can see that. Butterscotch is a note I get mixed up with vanilla a lot.
Possibly the best non-peated Irish whiskey.
