"But the voice (Larynx) rests (is seated) in the throat." That is worth its weight in gold. Low larynx- not shoved, but low, is true bel canto.

I like the term "neutral larynx".... just because if one says "low" one is apt to push down.... terms...ugh.... always cause disagreement because everyone's perception is different..

@@jimbuxton2187 Terms don't help, if they don't inform. Clearly, a 'neutral larynx' was was stopped me from singing true bel canto, because my larynx 'rode high' in my twenties. I literally had to determine how to have a low larynx, while NOT 'swallowing.' And for that, transmission of the TRADITION must have precedence over just watching videos.

@@moirbasso7051 I'm glad you figured it out. It takes an amazing amount of practice and constant monitoring to have a fine technique....However a larynx "riding high " I don't consider in neutral position. 😇 I find if one takes a relaxed breath through the mouth AND the nose simultaneously and slowly...the larynx finds the neutral position. Everyone is different and must be approached thusly...a teacher and student is a true collaboration between the two....terms don't help if the student can't comprehend their application... is what I think you meant....

Low larynx helped by open throat and that's the oooo. When learning a new piece of.music Pavarotti did it in 3 stages: 1. On the oooo vowel 2. On the vowels 3. On vowels/consonants. But he grounded it I oooo. How you breathe in also helpful as someone me tons here. Super reliable support also helps resist depressed tongue.and all the other things folk do to try and get larynx lower.

@@jimbuxton2187 I totally agree with what you are saying here. Even the term 'neutral larynx' might be misconstrued though because the student might consider what he/she's used to as neutral. Ultimately, the language that is used, as you imply, needs to be discovered by the teacher and student, and will very well change with development -- provided, of course, that the teacher is good!
