I think #6 is the best outside mic and #7 was the best inside mic
Having said that they all sounded very similar when doing the inside tests.
      Thanks for the great video.

3 better than 4 better than 1 better than 6 better than 7 better than 9 and 10 other are bad. I hear that on headphones with equalizer to sound (boost bass ). Glad to hear there is not that big difference for cheap and expensive mic :)

Overall for versatility and inside/outside sound, the SONY was clearly the best to me. However, all of these mics have good value video creation indoors or outdoors. I’m happy to see my Deity D4 Duo performed awesomely in the testing! I use my D4 Duo for vlogging and my Deity V-Lav for indoor videos - and outdoor if I’m not vlogging. Actually from most everything I see and hear, the lav mics sound better inside than the shotgun mics. I was blessed to get my Deity D4 Due for $72 (regular $89) on Amazon Prime Day and the V-Lav for around $49 (regular $55). Not a bad combo for under $130. Thanks for another superb video Jevon!

the 2 kinds of Deity Microphones (and they are the less expensive) I found them of great quality and overall the extra hole to insert another mic is very useful and no battery at all make them the 2 my preferred - and the quality sound is very close to the more expensive one so thanks again for your review and you showed us that spending more money is not worthwhile because by now all mics are similar.

I think the Rode Wireless Go with Lav sounds best. A close second is the Sennheiser. I think it is because of how they handled the wind noise.
BTW, I am listening on a set of small studio monitors.

Ok. I listen to your video twice but first off
thank you for doing this video. My top 4 picks based on performance such as, voice clarity and wind noise (provided no wind socks were used) are:
    # 1 SONY ECM-B1M - although a bit pricey. I liked the noise canceling, dual 🎤, that it’s compact. It wasn’t as load as others, but the voice was still very clear and I hear little too no wind noise. Which is big for me and I would definitely consider buying this one.
#2 for the money, the DIETY D4 MINI , & DIETY D4 DUO BASED ON wind sounds and clarity. These 2 preformed just as good as the SONY ECM-B1M so if I couldn’t afford this one I go with either one of my #2 picks. Because (to me) both were pretty even when it came to clarity and not hearing the wind.
    # 3 Rode LAV - Voice was strong/clear and I didn’t hear wind sound. BUT! I don’t like having to be tethered to my camera. But for hand held Vlogging - I think I would consider buying for hiking and doing things that didn’t require me walking away from my camera which happened to be my iPhone pro max
    Last! #4
I own the Rode Wireless GO. From personal experience I feel that the voice (as you pointed out) when moving my head from side to side the volume of my voice changes. When I placed it in my pocket, the sound of my voice changed, it was either not very clear or loud and scratchy, and the wind sock! OMG- it falls off easily so I don’t feel it’s worth the money. Unless I’m doing something wrong!? But having said that, RODE did improve it some so the RODE WIRELESS GO II is my #4 pick. Because like I said. Perhaps I’m just not using it correctly. If anybody has any suggestions, please help me out. But because of the improvements I’d consider it just because of its size and distance that your voice can be picked up on.
Jeven, - would it be possible for you to create a short video on how to best film /use both RODE WIRELESS GO and RODE WIRELESS GO II to get the best sound and keep that darn wind sock on? This would help me and perhaps others that are having the same issues as I am. Because outside of gluing the wind sock on the 🎤 it falls off very easily. Thank you for sharing. 👍👍👍👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼 on this video

    My opinion:
    1. DIEITY D4 mini - clear sound, no wind when you moved the camera.
    2. Rode - sound ok, maybe a bit more natural in comparison with the 1st mic. Wind sound is present when moving around.
    3. DIEITY D4 DUO - Nice sound, nothing bad to say.
    4. Sennheiser - nice sound, also wind can be heard but not disturbing at all (even makes it better - the picture is more complete as you're outdoor)
    5. Rode NTG - nice sound outdoor, even the birds were recorded (were they also singing before?). Perfect indoor sound.
    6. Rode PRO+ - perfect sound everywhere. Probably would still not use it because of the size...
    7. SONY - perfect sound outdoor. Indoor the best was with noise cancellation.
    8. Rode wireless GO - Outdoor it felt like the volume was changing during the speech.. Indoor also.. I would use on rare occasions where no other option is possible.
    9. Rode GO2 - nice sound. The wind is very good to hear though. Volume is changing when rotating the head.
    10. Lav - Actually a very nice sound. Easy to use. A good option to go with or just to have around as a backup mic.
    Thank you for the review!
I would go with nums 3 and 4 for my vlogging stuff because of their quality/simplicity ratio (although there are more high-quality mics on the list).

  • @BudBetz
    @BudBetz 3 роки тому +4

Jeven, they all sound good. #5 definitely is the best fidelity. It has a rich tone with good lows and highs. All the others had stronger hi-pass filters that seemed to attenuate the lows significantly more. I personally like the true high fidelity sound over the others. If it was a smaller package, the choice would be obvious. Good video!

I love all your microphone collection bro..In DIETY D4 DUO external mic port is amaxing sond also good...RODE VIDEOMIC NTG feactures are good.sound also good....RODE VIDEO MIC PRO + is amazing but little big...SONY ECM-B1M its compact and sound are realy great....RODE WIRELESS GO II amazing ....RODE LAV its good...similar changes to all microphones

  • @anywherelife585
    @anywherelife585 3 роки тому +2

I own the Sony EBM and it sounds (besides the NTG) by far the best. The Ntg is a little more bass richer. The compact size, and the practicality of no cables needed, makes the Sony the best for me. And i thing, the ntg (as second winner in this great comparison, thank You Jeven!) Takes much more windy noise in the outdoor test, what is disturbing.
Over all…. For Budget: The Deity is great (all Deity Versions)
    For Medium Budget: The Sennheiser
For more Budget: Rode NTG and Sony Mic

Sennheiser sounded the best for the boom mics and the Go 2 with Lav sounded good as well. I think the lesson here is you don’t have to break the bank to have good sound.
Also I wonder how the Comica X Boom sounds against the Go2.
Of course you still have to consider the audio processor on the camera or using something like a Zoom H1 and record sound independently.
I appreciate the work that went into this video. Thank you. 🥂

#1 and 2 seemed to clip the signal a little outdoors, but sounded fine indoors. Any reason?
Also, when you’re introducing the mics. Starting at 0:30, there is some digital interference in the audio signal. Which mic were you using for your voiceover? The sennheiser?
It’s tough to compare the outdoor recordings because of the wind variability. All the mics were us ale indoors, although I liked the Rodes for their low end, and didn’t like the sennheiser’s more sibilant character. That could be Eq’ed though.
Have you tried using the wireless Go mic by clipping it to your hat brim? You wouldn’t have the volume changes when you move your head, since it would track your head movements.
Thanks for the comparison video. These things can be a challenge to make.

I hate the size of my Rode video mic pro + especially if I’m tryna vlog incognito! My plan is to get the Sony b1m for my siii & potentially that small senheisser so I can mount it on the side when my camera is rigged out with top handles and monitors etc! I do wish the Sony could be plugged in so it could be used when the hot shoe is inaccessible!

I noticed when I was testing the Sony vs. the Deity D3 Pro that the Sony sounded too clean and almost electronic. I agree it’s easy and it does work really well in vlog style situations but it does need some processing after to warm it up. Still, it’s better than all the wires and accidentally leaving on the D3 by accident and draining the battery. Really good video. Thanks.

Fantastic video, Jeven - thank you. I’ve struggled to like my VideoMic NTG. Yes, the quality is great, but its performance in windy conditions with the dead cat is still below the VideoMicro. Then there’s the size. Most of the time, now, I have the VideoMicro on my A-camera as back-up audio, and a Rode Lav attached to a Tascam DR-10L as my main audio. I have a Wireless Go II, but a few recordings got corrupted and couldn’t be retrieved without Rode’s help. Audio is a constant series of swings and roundabouts! 😄🇦🇺🦘👍

I thought the MKE 200 hit a nice sweet spot in the middle. I own the Sennheiser and I also love that the shock mount is built in, I broke a lot of Rode shock mounts trying to put the camera with the mic into my bag. The NTG sound was great, and the Sony was pretty solid, but the price wasn't worth it for me.

I don’t own the Sony mic, but it sounded best to me. I also thought the Rode mic go with the lav did well. The NTG and Pro + had more low end, but they also magnified wind noise. Of the passive mics, the Sennhieser was the crispest, but also seemed the shallowest and might have an issue with plosives. A Rode Mic go with any of the on camera options shared here would be an awesome setup. Also, your video shows that there are lots of quality options right down to $50.

To me, the senheiser and the sony had a brighter sound quality that I liked. There was a dullness to the others.
Those two mics also seemed to do a better job canceling the room noise/echo on your indoor footage.
The blimp on the senheiser did a fantastic job at reducing wind noise and the sony was nearly as good.
There was only one mic that I really didn't like, and I think it was one of the rhodes.
There was clicking/popping in the wind & the sound kind of broke up.
Great job testing these and giving us the chance to hear the differences.

D4 for cost effective multi purpose solution. Way the best richness pick-up for non-powered mic. Sony has clean sound but no base. Rode video mic + for sound quality outside was best. Can appreciate the simplicity of the Sony and the sound is clear but high end focussed. Tbh, wireless go II was way the best in the studio. So the old adage is true, best sound is the one closest to the subject.
Great test, thank you for that! I think you just saved me $350! I’m not going to get that Sony.

The Sony is the best sound hands down even when I am AirPods Pro...the differences are bigger with studio monitors.

I'd have to go with #1 butt the #3 with the dual mics is what I'd choose.

I got the Duo last summer when it came out and it’s a horse. The mic on the back makes it a force multiplier for me because I love to interview and I also like to describe or explain what I’m shooting like a documentary. Plus it’s got a quality build to it. I’m looking for a lav too and I’m looking at the Deity.

Thanks @@terrylstarks. Getting jealous, fed up with & kickin' myself for not getting into this by now.
