Instead of being forced to buy whatever black or white vehicle, you could actually order something in a different color. None of that wholesale markup crap. People used to drive all sorts of colors, and vehicles with options and without. If you want a car with a manual transmission, you could order it! The absurdity of an “affordable” car was always a lie because such a car never existed. It always had to be ordered, which means no discounts, no haggling. I think financially responsible people need to start shaming those who ruined the free marketplace for the rest of us. I drove a clapped out 1996 Mitsubishi gallant with no AC and one window working out of the four. I drove that car for three years. I went and bought a jeep grand Cherokee and put $20,000 down. I got a 5% interest rate. I now owe 6000 on that jeep and it is worth 30,000. Right now I still rent when I know others that own, but are in worse financial situations than myself. I have no credit card debt with almost $100,000 in available credit. My only loan is my auto loan which I am upside by a great amount. I can’t buy a house for 400,000 when I can simply look at the price history and see that it’s sold for half that before Covid. Guess most people do not have a problem becoming bag holders.
