    Can you analyse Djokovic movement at the back regarding how he chases down balls and slides even on harcourts ?

    Novak Djokovic disliked this video cause he only goes to net to shake hands

    Speed the courts back up and bring back serve and volley I miss seeing that style of tennis

      Agreed 100%
      I think they are slowly speeding up play again

    • @willkittwk
      @willkittwk 5 років тому +1

      IKR the slower courts made the game favor baseline too much. I miss seeing a serve and volley vs a baseliner or a player mixing both tactics to deal with his opponent. Also I miss seeing the Conners type player who was a baseline / attacking style player who was always hunting the short ball to attack the net. Maybe the networks told ATP to slow down courts for long matches and more commercial breaks??

    I saw advice that if you do an approach shot and volley you should hit the approach to the middle to cut off the angles when you volley. My problem is when I hit to the middle it goes right into the player and its easy for them to simply lob it

    • @TopTennisTrainingOfficial
      @TopTennisTrainingOfficial  4 роки тому +1

      Down the middle is a good option but most pros will use it only every now and then. The vast majority approach down the line and focus on covering their line

    I would argue that modern rackets make Serve and Volley an even more viable strategy then it was a few decades ago by allowing much more stronger serve options such as the kick serve.

    • @yutaegil4944
      @yutaegil4944 2 роки тому

      Modern rackets improve almost every aspect of your game. But groundstrokes and returns, especially ones with spin get improved much more.

    Try to serve down the tee
    Don’t look up after serve
    Leave time for the split step
    First volley is a set up shot down the line, you can try to jam them or send it deep

    i can see that sampras takes only one extra step after landing on his left foot before doing the split step, whereas some other players make 2 steps. does that depend on the speed of the serve?

    • @TopTennisTrainingOfficial
      @TopTennisTrainingOfficial  5 років тому +2

      Yes it would depend on the speed of the serve and where the opponents returns from.
      Thanks for watching.

    superb video. But my opponents are good retrievers and often hit good lobs despite my good volleys, then I am sitting duck... any tips? :>

    • @tylerpoe5655
      @tylerpoe5655 7 років тому

      Kk Lin it's all about effective movement and anticipation when serving and volleying. If you are consistently getting beaten with the lob that often means you are closing in to quickly and not giving yourself a good chance to cover that lob off the first volley. After your shuffle step you want to close a bit, but not right on top of the net. But again, serve and volley is all about anticipation and recognization. If you can't recognize the angle of the rackethead of your opponent then you are going to be in trouble often from that lob.

    How come huge servers like Karlovic, Groth, and Isner use a serve and volley play plenty of times on their first serve? Is it a height thing?

    • @roshanshetty3193
      @roshanshetty3193 6 років тому

      They have to serve and volley a lot..They don't move as well as other players at the back of the court

  • @speedmishra13

    Isn’t it better to serve to the corners (not the T) so the opponent can’t get to the volley?

    very true your first volley has to be deep

    Hey guys, i've got just a problem. When doing the second serve, i don't accelerate too much because i think i'll miss that serve. What should i do ?

    • @andreygameplays1234
      @andreygameplays1234 8 років тому

      Jorge I think you are right, you must not accelerate the Ball on second serve

    • @tylerpoe5655
      @tylerpoe5655 7 років тому

      Jorge it's all about practice and trusting your technique, I actually swing faster on my second serve than on my first quite often. Make sure you are comfortable with your technique and then just get out and hit buckets of second serves,really accelerating that racket head through the hitting zone. That acceleration is going to give you spin, which in turn gives you margin for error

    Stutter must be neutral not moving forward or backward , this is crucial.

    I grew up in the Edberg-Becker era. There was also old McEnroe and Navratilova, young Sampras, old Noah, then Stich, Krajicek, Rafter, Henman ... these guys all had very good volleys.
    But since 1988, only one GS is on grass. And they even slowed the Wimbledon grass after 2000. IDK why. Tennis is sooo boring w/o volley.
    And Untill 1974, the US Open was also played on grass... I can only dream of today's tennis w 3 GS played on fast lawn. Man, this would be soo awesome. Federer would have 30 GS, LOL.
    S&V has just disappeared as a general gameplan. #SadbutTrue. Some men still do it here and there on some points, but it's way too rare. And I'm not even talking about the ladies out there. Mauresmo was their last S&V player. I miss that kind of tennis a lot

    • @TopTennisTrainingOfficial
      @TopTennisTrainingOfficial  4 роки тому +2

      Well the tennis powers decided to slow down the game to encourage more rallies.
      They got their way!
      Ruined the serve and volley style and created baseline grinders.
      Shame really

      I'm 14 to been playing since the age of 5. Your gonna have to work really hard on your basic fundamentals really fast, also I you will need a good coach who is not there to just take your money. And another thing is you have to really focus hard because you have started late, not impossible but really had you will need to focus.
