This video is not monetized, but there was an automatic Content ID match so ads may appear anyway. I've disputed the claim and hopefully it will be sorted soon.
Okay, hold the phone. I would have _never in a million years_ expected something obscure like this to receive such a lovingly reconstructed version. Thank you so much for doing this.
@@patton72010 Could be, but then I'm not that familiar with its fame. To me, Guitar Slinger was one of those MODs from a huge MOD collection CD-ROM that I would save as one of my favorites. One could argue that Amiga was never _huge_ too and there are plenty of people who have necessarily heard of it these days, or MOD music for that matter, but I'll leave the judgment of whether that makes it obscure to someone else. 😅
@@DaVince21It's a shot in the dark, but I guess I'll ask...Have you ever come across an Amiga tune called Jazzmatazz? From my understanding, it's got nothing to do with the album by GURU, but it's a pretty cool jazz-hop tune all on its own. I had found it included on a video with a bunch of other forgotten music tapes from the Amiga, but it's since been deleted and I can't find it anywhere. Related note, the fact you can't see the titles of deleted videos is a thing which gives me clinical depression.
@@dadrumma8608 I don't think I know it, but you got me intrigued so I tried searching around for it. I think you might have found something _actually_ obscure here. There's nothing on that old collection CD-ROM I have, so I looked online. All I ended up finding was a really chill/eerie tune called blackmailing.mod on the Mod Archive, which has "Jazzmatazz" in the instrument names. The string specifically says "tipi's jazzmatazz...." Nothing else, sorry! I'll keep an eye out though. And if you happen to find it I'd love to know as well. :)
After 25 years of no contact, a former coworker sent me a link to the original Guitar Slinger which we used to listen to together. And a week later I stumbled on this video. Amazing job! I've told people over the decades about our Hornet Archive and other scene resources since I think it represents a very important historical moment in the evolution of tech.
Absolutely wow!! Subscribed and liked. I just saw your "Making 8-bit music on C64" and was very impressed.. but this!! I was an amateaur tracker in the Amiga days and Guitar Slinger absolutely blew my mind. This is a very worthy 2023 tribute which must have taken many many hours of recording and video editing. Thank you!! 🙂
Excellent work! Jogeir appeared and demonstrated his workflow in an episode of a norwegian technology show called "Spider" back in 1997. Unfortunately it's no longer accessible online.
Jogier used the scene name Noiseless on many of his mods and it’s worth noting how apt this was as his samples are always so clean and clear that they make the Amiga seem far more powerful in terms of sampling fidelity and performance than it really is…
Very well done. You've made it fun and engaging to watch and very original, but still keeping the essence of the original and what makes the original so great. Great job!
An absolute retro-punch to the face. Always been a huge fan of Guitar Slinger. Such a comfy tune. Your tiny guitar doesn't quite do it justice. The rich, warm strums of the Guitar Slinger sounds are a big part of why I love the song. But hey, as a reconstruction with real instruments (and other things XD) this is absolutely AMAZING. Loved it
Thanks for the scene where your car appears. Now I'm using this part in my videos without your permission. What's more, I was able to see your license plate number and now I'm using that to my advantage, and every time this scene appears in my videos, I put the number in the corner of the screen. Thanks man. You really are a good person. Now I can finally do whatever I want with my car, without worrying about whether I'll have to pay for something I'm responsible for. You really changed my life 👍😁👌😭 I also thought the remix of "Guitar Slinger" that you did was really beautiful. I wanted to know what kind of magic you used to multiply yourself into 7 parts to make this beautiful remix. I don't think it's normal for 7 identical people to appear in the same video singing.
What a wonderful showcase of how sample-based tracker music works -- not to mention Jogeir was an amazing modmaker and arranger of that time and tech. Thank you for taking the time to do this! Cheers from the Nectarine Radio: Guitar Slinger is one of the most played tunes in our collection, and one of my favorites in the early years of getting into the scene! Incidentially, what was the automatic Contend ID match about? Is it, well, viable to continue doing such things (for you or anyone else)?
Hi! About the Content ID match, here's what I think happened: Jogeir has released a version of this song on CD, and that CD is also available on streaming services. Somebody must have activated Content ID protection for the CD, which triggered an automatic match. I disputed the claim, since I knew I had Jogeir's permission. After 30 days of inactivity on their part, the claim was dropped automatically. So everything is resolved now!
Having loved the original .mod for years, I'm blown away by how faithful this reconstruction is to every little detail of the original. Gorgeous work. 😊
The explanation section was really interesting and raised my IQ by a few points. Loved the idea of writing those two programs to do a roundtrip from MOD to the clips/edit list and back again, and verifying that it reproduces the original tune before slowly replacing each clip.
This was totally nuts, but in the best possible way. Your ingenuity in translating the original mod in to cues and reconstructing the track is inspiring. Hope you got the broken string sorted on your piano 😂
Guitar Slinger always reminds me for some reason of Heartsong by Gordon Giltrap. I don't know why. Guitar Slinger is almost 400kB I can't remember if it would load on a half-meg A500 or if 1Mb chipram would be required minimum. I had an A1200 when it was released so I never tried it on an A500. This is a wonderful reconstruction!
After having coming upon his channel a couple months ago I stated, "This is the original UA-camr". I maintain that wholeheartdely! He is still here, years after, in his truest form!
You are a bit nuts - in the best possible way coceivable. You are such an inspiration to so many artists. A fine example of what humanity can bring to the game. Quirky and phantastic!
This is awesome, truly something I wouldn't of expected to see today. Jogeir is one of my favorite Demoscene artists, I'm really thankful I've got to talk to him previously.
The pitchgliding of a piano note using a tuning key is very satisfying to watch and hear (but the final "blooper" with strlen out of bounds was horrifying haha)
Wow! One ove my favorite mods, and Jogeir is god! :) Love the passion and effort. I appreciate every second you have put into this project. You've done awesome stuff before but this was something else! Even down to the details of the (det)tuning and pitch(bend) on each sound/instrument. I was about to fall of the chair when you came to pattern 23!!! With the little tick at line 27! And then the disclaimer and blooper together with the last error message, pure comedy! What an amazing attention to details, you made me appreciate this song even more! This has been the most uplifting video and the best I've seen for a very very long time! Thank you for your great work and passion and this makes me wanna make more music and videos here on UA-cam!
Great video, as always!! :) I instantly recognised the resemblance of the piano part with Lasse Gjertsen's "Amateur" before the shoutout :) That was one of the first UA-cam videos I have ever seen :)

Speaking of content matching, the megasample at 3:02 is actually ripped from the very beginning of "DeLillos - Racerbåt"...
