Please be safe, be responsible and unless you know what you're doing, do not fool around with very serious machinery just because you've seen us make it look so easy.
Woody's presenting skills are amazing especially given the short amount of time he has been doing this. Making it look easy is so much harder than anyone can imagine if you have never tried standing in front of a camera and talking.
Mat Gee I’m glad someone has said this. Al and woody are the perfect pair for this format. Knowledgeable and honest.
Also great episode.
Al's lack of enthusiasm or approval makes this so satisfying to watch.
woody "if you need to push an engine that hard its gonna break"
al "except a 2jz"
LOL 🤣🤣👌
Negative & boring
Turbo Yoda is my favorite UA-cam car builder and my favorite car I own is my 1990 MR2 Turbo. I don’t know how to feel right now.
Why did all even go for a ride if he doesn’t like the car?
Instablaster.
Best car channel on youtube right now, every week without fail, posting well produced content.(+MCM)
Watching Al’s grimace turn to a subtle smirk a and quickly back to a grimace during hard driving is highly amusing 😂
The juxtaposition of Woody, who we can all tell adores the car and Al' who pretends to hate it just works so well to tell the story of this car.
As always great work from all involved, nice car, great vid.
Als not pretending. He hates these cars with a passion
Its nice when alan tries to have this ultimate pokerface when under boost, but there is this slight smile when it hits and continues... THE MAN LOVES IT!!!
Powerful Donut Media shout-out
LIGHTNING LIGHTNING LIGHTNING LIGHTNING!!!!
I can yell a Wikipedia page, too.
All the hrsepwers
@@danedane55 then do it. could be fun
@@danedane55 Well, you're not wrong. The pics are usually of something completely wrong...still fun.
It's my favorite 90's car too! I had a 92 and still miss it. I think I'm gonna go cry now.....
Daily my 88 Aw11 for the last ten years. It's fun but some parts are getting hard to find new. Bought a 94 pickup a few months ago to slow the mileage on the mr2. My first car was an 87 Celica with a early 3s-ge. Old Toyotas are good for what they are.
I just stopped daily my adub 6 months ago after 6 years or so, and my first car was a 91 celica st184. I had a ZZT celica for a while and would love to get a 2ZZ in my aw11.
Just sold my 94 pickup about 2 weeks ago. I miss it already.
Aw11 owner high five!
Do it!!!! A vr6 in an mr2 would be epic
It's been done to a MK3! look it up here on youtube. I followed the guy's build thread on spyderchat
It's also been done in the Fiero.
na bro k swap is the only way
pdelmo79 nop
Na fuck that
Man, hearing “disco potato” was a strait dejavú to reading the best mag there ever was “Sport Compact Car”
I gave away a few years worth to a guy after running out of office space, loved those mags, Dave, Josh and Mike Kojima were awesome
I think turbo Yoda mentions the disco potato in the first 240sx "Taylor drift" episode of mcm.
Woody is great in front of the camera now, very natural. Loving the skid factory lately guys, such good content!
Beautiful 77-78 trans am
Me too
Ohhhh, boys, you had me at MR2. Al might've learned to hate MR2s from workin' on this thing, but all that work really shows. She looks proper sorted.
Woody and Al is one epic pair. Love them both!
Would be good to see more driving of the completed project cars.
Glad they added Woody to the team he's good people and he knows his shit.
Thanks for all that Mr2 talk, I was having such trouble falling asleep..
Thanks again
Soon as it showed the car, I was thinking what a beaut, then engine hood went up, wow! I love lightweight toyota sport cars.
AWESOME CAR!!! that smirk after it stepped out was gold
10:40
Woody: "...you push a car to a certain point, it's going to - eventually it's gonna break."
Al: "Except 2JZ"
Al is always there to make our day :D
Awesome to see you guys out of the shed and having a blat. More of that when you finish projects!
Al complaining throughout the test drive...loved it haha! The man speaks his mind :)
The gen4 3sgte from the Caldina is the hot set up now for the MR2. 300whp on stock turbo, ecu and injectors has been done. That's the route I finally went with my 91.
Definitely went in the right direction. Sounds awesome.
I love that bit of road, I used to drive it twice a week for work
VR6 in the AW11👌🏻
+ turbo and E85!
not that vw pos .... even that 4age with turbo or sc is much better engine .. and better fun that vr-sht...
dawe82 yes a VR6 is an old boy, it’s a tank. It would murder a 4age and make gobs more torque. The only real downside of the engine is it’s weight , it’s a hefty fat bastard. It was originally a diesel block VW had designed.
stop telling Bullshit ........your ass is a Dieselblock
Who cares, do it! Itll be interesting.
This time on the Skid Factory.....Smokey and the Bandit!
A friend and I autocrossed one of these towing a small trailer around America about a decade ago, and I loved the car. I could not rewire my brain to drive them quickly, though. You have to really dance them on corner entry and commit, or they understeer. Hamfist it and...polar moment of inertia kicks in. I dig how clean and sorted this red turbo goes. Very special and underappreciated car.
Such a clean and tidy setup, beauty.
cheers.
Turbo Yoda is my favorite UA-cam car builder and my favorite car I own is my 1990 MR2 Turbo. I don’t know how to feel right now.
I wish you guys did vids everyday. I need my skid factory fix more often. lol
as an MR2 owner, one running 300whp, I can appreciate the time, effort and cost that goes into these cars. The biggest improvement is by far once you get a properly tuned EMS running.
Am interested to know if the fan shroud on the bay lid makes any difference to engine bay temps.
Definitely. It pumps out so much hot air.
No need for the rain tray either if it never rains there.
@@modermonkula I'd never to choose to drive in the rain also. It's terrifying enough as it is.
@@25LQW Yeah thats my thoughts on it, I've been having problems with engine bay and intake temps and being able to reliably push the boost past 16psi. Have been reading up on these shrouds for the last few months, heaps of talk on negative/positive air pressure in the bay and disrupting the air cycle. could be a good mod for city driving, interested to get your thoughts. Being in Wellington NZ, don't have the option of removing the rain cover.....
@@jonoerees my fans are run through the ecu and are on pretty much the whole time. They work really well. I wouldn't worry to much about the rain with this shroud on. If the fans are running no rain is getting in. As long as your air filter is not exposed it will be fine. And don't run those tom's snorkels. It goes against the flow.
Touching words from the yoga himself
I miss my 1987 5 speed NA MR2 so much after watching this video. I'm still looking for a 2nd gen MR2 to make into a fun little go cart. But they're all expensive.
Awesome weapon. Hope to see woodys lil bros AW11 on here. Also cant wait to see what the next project is.
I was going to go into work early this morning, but this notification was waiting for me when I woke up. So, I'm not going to be as early as I planned!
I've been patiently waiting for some Toyota content! 💪🏽
The 3 litre V6 out of the Camries is pretty much a direct bolt in to those .. I hear they dont mind a bit of boost either
I think you are referring to the 2GR-FE? It is an absolutely amazing engine. So smooth and will make a healthy 280whp in stock form.
shoominati23 no
@@NippyMoto My plan is to drop a stock 2GR-FE in my MR2 whenever my 5S-FE goes. 280 is plenty for me as my daily driver.
I almost bought an SW20 shell for $800 this year. Toyota V6 was my top pick for swap.
The 1mz is a good donk.
Loved that last piece of audio hahaha I bet your brother loved it as well nice work Woody.
Now that’s what project Binky needs!
Nice intake noises when it opens up. *chef kiss*
Good to see some "hooning" from the ==================Factory.
Please do more engine assembly and wiring videos.. would love to see how something like that goes.. although I don't get bored of the awesome fab work either... cheers
Glad you guys like the 300zx 👌
Vr6 in aw11. Uhhhh hell yeah sounds rad!
VR6 in AW11 for the win, get it done!
Keep up the good work, it is great that we don't get much from the 70 synthetic music maker and his pal.
Spotted this thing cruising in Noosa the other day
It's 3am in the uk, bloody timezones, i need to sleep...
Now it’s 04:25!
I can’t sleep, and part of the reason is I am thinking of things I want to do to my Turbo SW20 lol.
Hough 5s and Lemon squash perfect holidays!!
Awesome video as always, thanks guys! Love how clean it looks and how good all the work looks. 👌
I wouldn't complain about owning a clean sw20 like that one, but there definitely not as stout of engine as the 4g63 6bolt. The thing sounds really good though. I always respect people who are devoted to a more challenging platform.
I almost bought a shell for $800 this year. My plan would have been either a Toyota V6 or a 4G63.
Stout how?
Stout like handling 500+whp with a stock bottom end, only head studs, and proper tune on e85. Not too many 4 bangers that can even come close, maybe a proper K series.
@@Sloppyjalopy123 I would call a 3sgte equal in those regards. If you hadn't noticed, people slapping bolt-mods onto stock 4g63 engines are always having them break. I wouldn't trust a Honda engine to be any better. None of those OEMs had 500 HP in mind, and they wouldn't waste money on making those engines that stout. It's not a matter of if they fail, but when. 4g63 engines have a lot of thrust bearing troubles.
this gives Marty something to aim for with the pooh :)
A vr6 swap sounds like a great idea. I have never had anything to do with an mr2 but i did love them as a kid.
That’s awesome power in something so small! Must go like a champ 👊🏻
to be honest with the current setup its too much. need better and wider rear tires and also upgraded rear brakes. then ill see how balanced it is.
At 11:04 BOTH of your smiles say you like it ! your busted Al
robert berry Who wouldn't like 400+hp in a little car?😜😬🖖
The young Woody is learning well. Very calm, precise and knowlagable.....
Allens me a smile made me press the like
A VR6 to Golf MK1 Swap? That would be too cool. Dat Sound!
AW11 on Skid Factory would be amazing. I have one of my own that I'll be SR20 swapping. Aren't they quite rare in Australia?
AW11's were sold here in Australia., only naturally aspirated though. We also got some as grey imports NA and Supercharged. They are rare now because there aren't many left due to age/rust/neglect/hitting the scenery. Why would you put an SR20 in an aw11? There are better motors that have been done before, K series honda's, 3S beams, 3SGTE etc.
@@Legotruck82 Few reasons. I like the SR20, I like the way they sound, they make good power cheap, nobody has done it, I already have a donor car I got for $200, and other than mounts I can practically bolt it in and just change bearings and hubs. I really like unconventional swaps too. So their idea for a VR6 excites me. I had thought about that too. If everyone does the same swaps it's very boring. Biggest reasons are I like the engine and I can do it cheap.
Also I hear you on them getting rare due to age and neglect. We had so many here in the USA that they were scrapped all the time and people would sell them for a few hundred dollars. Now that good examples are getting rare, we're starting to see them fetch thousands for a decent one and up to $10K for an all original with lower miles. Won't be long before they are unobtainable in great shape for little money. The SW20 is already more like that.
Hey 802 lol, is your Sr from an ser?
throw a 2ZZ or a BEAMS 3S into the AW11.. SR's are garbage
@@STAG162 Hell K series, B series, 4g63 even
AW11 VR6 has my vote. Yes, yes and yes please.
Al almost smiled during the ride . 😂
Review the AW11! Got one with 20v swap, paired with a 6-Speed w/ LSD, cams and haltech ecu. Not the fastest car on the straight, but the handling and ITB sound make it quiet a unique experience
That's what's in pats car now that he blew up.
Nice smokey and the bandit pontiac trans am!!!
Can´t wait for the Trans Am resting on the hoist, getting it´s Smokey and the Bandit treat, yiiiiiieeehaaa!
Al is a 300zx fan? Made my day 😂
4/20 in the playlist 🤙
I understand Al, they are a hassle to work on, thankfully most of the parts are decent quality. I have almost been assasinated twice in mine, I will keep driving it.
Do it Patrick, the pressure is on!!!
Guys please do a video on using stock diverter valves vs aftermarket Dv vs using a blow off valve vs none at all and whether closed throttle compressor surge is detrimental to a turbos longevity
Bit noisy but still sounds good. If you had looked a little bit more into some mods with the intake and manifold it may even produce more horses. Overall good work guys.
Waiting for all the "snap steering" comments...🤔
Snap over steer is fun
You'll only see that from folks unaware that it can be done away with through mods
92 and later had it fixed anyways. Off throttle toe changes from new links in rear
Is that a thing??cause the only time i have driven this car, i spun it. Lol
I own a 92, just like any rear engine car you can spin it out. But lifting off to change gears doesn't enduce the snap oversteer and was why I got the 92 and and not the 89-91. Also had the nice lights over the 93 with the hex shaped things
Hectic something most aussies can relate too .cheers 👍👍
Yes!!! Get that vr6 in the shop!
Hell yeah! Vr6 build would be sick! One of the best sounding v6 engines!
Patrick do it!
VR6 would be awesome!
I also like the K-swap with turbo.
But VR6 will sound mean.
Finally, thanks for this video guys
11:00 yoda’s actin like a foo. Trying to not smile 🤣
I get all giddy whenever I see an mr2 :') don't see many on Popular channels 😂 ( do a 1st Gen next c:)
Check out sarhntuned she's building a nice one
Mr2 baby!
Please do the VW VR6. Please please please? I thought of that motor design before VW built it and have always wanted to see one make great power. They are really the only cars I have owned besides USA big 3 stuff. And all I have had are 4 cylinders. Love your vids'. Keep on keepin' on.
13:31 with captions switched on. *yeah boi!*
Hell yes, Donut Media plug!
Trans-am on the hoist!! Keen!
Mr2 for life, i got a aw11 89 mr2 but got to fix it
That throw goes so far it's like the Gold Coast to Perth in a single shift.
Has a short shifter in it. Just a 90's sports car. The wide angle of the go pro makes it look worse than it is.
Very clean, amazing that it fits.
The vr6 motor is about 170hp. The 2zzge is lighter, rev happy, makes about 190hp and matches nicely to the character of the original 4AGE engine. Plus much easier swap. One custom mount and NA SW20 axles. Not to mention the fact that you are putting a great toyota engine into a classic toyota sports car.
As a fellow long term mr2 enthusiast I would love to see a vw powered two!
AW11 or SW20 what do you prefer?
Caldina GT-T 3S-GTE
Aw11 with a 3s swap
Damn, trending gj boys
LOL I have no idea what you said but always liked the MR-2 so I watched anyway
VR6 Aw11 would be really cool actually
Didn't expect that to be the next project.
Dudes! Thanks for the drive!
Very familiar with the 3SGTE. I put one in my old SV21 Camry a few years back. Used to snap axles like no tomorrow lol.
Al nods his appoval 👌with each gear change.
Nice one
Interesting not using an intercooler.
But otherwise very cool.
Most of the rear suspension proplems in the earlier MR2 can be adjusted out with aftermarket suspension parts.
They did a big rear suspension upgrade from the factory in 1993.
It does have an intercooler, water to air. Works awesome. It's the heat exchanger is not mounted at the front. It's at the back.
@@25LQW Most intercoolers are air to air.
E85 and air to air is the go...lol....
I used to contract for Toyota
A great car in my opinion. Quality in the making of the video was also great guys.
Eyyy! Wish I had gotten the shell I looked at for $800. I'd be even more broke then.
Time to help Marty
Vr6 AW hell yes!!
