How To Replace Factory LED Map Lights 2013 Ram Sport

2013 Ram Sport with OEM LED Map Lights on the overhead console CAN be replaced! Use a 194 LED Bulb widely available at Walmart or any parts store!
***UPDATE***: After putting this back in the truck, I noticed that you cannot click the light on with the button while the truck is OFF. If it is in ACC or is running they work just like normal, but if the ignition is OFF they are so dim you can barely tell they lit up. This is ONLY when you CLICK the light on. They work perfect when the doors open regardless of ignition status. There is a summary below. Not an issue for me or probably most people, but wanted to give full disclosure.
Summary:
Key Off, Door Open: Works
Key On, Door Open: Works
Truck Running, Door Open: Works
Key On, Door Closed, Map Light Clicked: Works
Truck Running, Door Closed, Map Light Clicked: Works
Key OFF, Door Closed, Map Lights Clicked: DO NOT WORK
Finally someone who shows these style map lights. Everyone has the simple one that just pulled out.

Thank you, exactly what i was fixing to do, this was really dumb what they did, thanks again for making the video. i just cut the plastic off with an exacto and used some very tiny circuit board screws to hold in place
Great video I was lost when I popped off the cover and saw another cover. With your guidance I modified it some. After pulling off the black cover I snapped the grey trim back in place. I took a razor knife and trimmed in half the 3rd single side pin. I was then able to pull the cover down keeping the back 2 pins attached. I was able to wiggle out the stock LED plate, slide new LED bulb in and push the cover back on. Reattached the cables, snapped the black cover back and finished super quick with everything in place. Just recently bought a 2014 Laramie and discovered these lights dim. Found out the same about replacing it. Found your video and bam fixed for less than $20 Bucks. Nice!! 👍
So I am attempting to do this now and the the cover seems to be sticking on the rear sliding window buttons. Can I just keep pulling it or is there something else keeping it in there?

OMG, you solved my problem. I have been plagued with a dead LED for over a year. Been scouring YT looking for a video about these LED boards. Everybody saw the none LED version.
I popped my lens cover off but saw the board behind it and was perplexed WTH Dodge did here... You answered it.

Awesome video! I just l did this mod today. I experienced the same issue you did, but I don’t care. The dealer wants $380 for a new overhead console. I paid $13 for the lights and 1/2 of my time. Bravo!!

Do the led bulbs match the rest of the led interior lights? It would drive me crazy if they were a different color temperature
I'm guess the LED lights are brighter the standard bulbs. You may need to change the other bulbs to LED too.

Yeah but the cover doesn't over top bulb 194 too high. I trimmed bottom and still no. If ram didn't melt that clear on the lenses. It would be ok. Could I melt that clear so it's not such a big bump?

Wonder if a person can find that exact build that dodge says you can't. Any info on the stock led bulbs.
I didn't want to tear the whole overhead console out so I just remove the clear plastic covers off the factory LED/s. Someone already had converted to these stick LED lights and one was flickering and the other dead. I cut the expose wires and crimps another pair of LED lights o not the expose existing wires. One light is good now but the other light is still dead. I'm guess the dead light that the wire got disconnected or it came loose in the socket. I think I will just replace the entire console just like the dealer would do but I would not pay them the $150-$200 in labor. Maybe I can find an after market console cheaper than the dealer.

thanks for posting this. my wife has 36000 miles on her 2013 RAM 1500 Laramie and the bulb just started flickering once it was out of warranty. of course that's how it works, and I can deal with that. what I can't deal with is my overall impression of the quality of these products. I really do my best to try to buy as many american-made products as possible but after 2 poorly designed Jeep Grand Cherokees, a poorly designed Dodge Charger SRT, and now the crazy amount of work it takes to change some of the simplest things in this RAM I'm going to move on. although the change will break my heart, but I'm more tired of this stuff breaking my wallet and patience.
All the auto builders do this.
Where did those replacements light covers come from?
Can you use a T-10 LED instead of a 194 bulb?
I've been looking at a few vids here, and I think the T-10 is not fitting this RAM'S model

Legit. Any flickering now? I have replaced mine with a different bulb. And I am getting the flickering again. Kinda led to believe it's somewhere in the circuitry and not the bulb itself
I haven't had any flickering at all since I replaced mine. That's been a year now. Maybe you got a bad or cheaply made bulb?
Thanks for the video. FYI the “melting plastic larger than the hole” is called heat staking. Common fastening method with plastic parts, but definitely does not belong here.

Thank you sir. I was just looking for someone to confirm my suspicions. I had just put a different color fiber optic sight in my pistol weeks ago. Same mushroom effect. TIP. heat up and old pocket knife with the lighter dont touch the truck. And you are correct about the lamps. They are interchangeable. You dont even need LED. But the not RAM lamp you bought is your off problem. I confirmed it by tracing each circuit....aluminum foil looking strips on the plastic bezel...... and you loose a path about by not have a lamp with a jumper "wire" wrapped around. If you are electrically inclined and have a circuit tracer, resistance measure devices ( hopefully one that beeps when there is continuity) and reconnect the circuit with XXXXXX EG. Paperclip, a stand of copper wire, I laughed when the strip of metallic duct tape I cut worked so just search your work bench and the( the pile of trash on near or around it) ALSO I would like to note you should fold ALL the tabs in a bit while in there. That's why they were flicker. Loose

Just pop out the two Places Map lightswotu a knife, use a zip tie Lasso it over the light bulb and pull. Then stick the LED light bulb into the socket and carefully it the places cover back in it.. don’t remove the hole thing and cause more of a headache
Can you clarify this a little for me. I'm trying to figure out how to do it the easiest way. Are you saying to cut out the reflector piece and pop in a new bulb?
I think that you're not talking about the same type of bulb, like not this RAM's model

Just another update for anyone else that finds this. I've had this mod now for a full year and they are still working great! Again, when the key is OFF, the door is CLOSED, and you try to click the map light it will not come on. All you have to do is turn the key on or open the door and it lights right up. I've had no issues in a year with needing the light on in that exact situation so it's not bothering me at all. Still just as happy today as I was the day I did it.
Newton Fincher thamks for the great vid!! The over the you push is what turns it on? And I want to make sure I understand the update ... this mod will make the light unusable if you are sitting in the truck with the door closed and the key off? (Not that that matters)
