Red wolves are a protected species in Illinois. So are mountain lions.

We have ranch in the Sawtooths Wilderness in Idaho. It has been in the family for five generations. It is now extremely rare to see an elk on our property.
    We see wolves regularly.
    I much preferred the elk.
There has been no improvement in the balance of the ecosystem. It is now out of balance. No elk. Lots of wolves. A sad state of affairs indeed.

Yeah, that’s because the elk behave like elk now instead of acting like cattle. Moron.

That's probably because they moved on to a different place to graze which is normal they are needed for balance you people make me laugh 😂 you clearly don't know how nature works.

Here in Eastern Oregon, I have had two wolf encounters. They belong here. If we have too many of anything here, it's Mountain Lions.

There was an attempt to reintroduce red wolves back into the Great Smoky Mountains National Park in Tennessee several years ago. For various reasons the reintroduction failed.

Not in the real world. In Minnesota, Wisconsin and Michigan wolves take 4 out of every 10,000 livestock. There have been NO attacks on humans in any 3 states in recorded history and each state loses between 2 and 12 pets out of estimated 80,000+ per state - almost all, of which, could have been avoided by bringing pets in at night or not letting them run off a leash through areas where there are wolves.

Before reintroduction the last documented Grey Wolf was killed 50 miles from where I lived in WY. Was traveling 125 miles from where it was trapped to the wind river Indian reservation killing live stock. Had a toe missing on his front foot left a distinct track.

Cattlemen do "fear" what Wolves can do to their herds, especially when they are giving birth to young!
Why couldn't States try to increase Wolves' food supply so they won't hurt the Cattleman's "bottom line"?
An increase in small game might, possibly, be an answer.
Increase rabbits, squirrels, turkey, pheasants, quail, etc..
These may provide enough food for wolves that cattleherds can remain relatively unharmed!
An increase in deer herds might work, but competition for grass pastures will increase!

There are programs for ranchers to get reimbursed for wolf predation of their cattle. I don't know about mountain lion and bear predation. Of course many ranchers try to keep elk and deer numbers high so they can sell more hunting packages.

    BRING THEM BACK!!!
A wolf has always been my favorite animal. They have such a completely well organized and disciplined social structure it's unreal. It's almost military precision yhat makes human society look like a bunch of chaotic, airheaded incompetent neanderthals who can't get anything right. But wolves operate on teamwork.Amd there is no I in the word"team"and these bruisers are willing to die to save thel life of one of their packmates.
That's how fiercely loyal to each other they are.I wish the majority of us,at least, would be.

What is the love affair with wolves about, anyway? Guilt from people who don’t live with them. In Alaska that is almost completely an urban sentiment, away from there wolves are still regarded as a species that needs management like any other.
