You dont need to cut the wire. As that wire is actually connected into the light. Pull the rubber grommet away.....and insert a small flathead screwdriver and separate the clip that holds the plug in and pull the plug out.
Newer versions apparently come with a clip that you can pul out but maybe his car is one of the older ones. I'm likely going to try this today on a Captiva 2011.

I would highly recommend NOT doing this if your not a professional. Put in the extra dollars and just get the lights replaced with your WOF and car service.
