Thanks for this recipe. I'm a carnivore, but on a vegan kick at the moment. Trying to lose weight. Lost 30 lbs since 1 March by going vegan. It works. My mother used to make Tom yum for me when I was growing up. I would eat the galangal, lemon grass and lime leaves. I still do, especially with this recipe. This is so good and it keeps with the essence of authentic Thai flavors of tom yum. My wife had to go back for seconds. I just love the choice of mushrooms you chose. Well done, Pai. Keep up the good work.
Thank you for your vegetarian version! I am a vegetarian and have tried a couple of your recipes and have loved all of them. Really appreciate the veg options. Thank you!
Love Pailins recipes! I usually use portobello mushroom as a substitute for Asian mushrooms if I can’t get them, but want to avoid button mushrooms, figured someone might find it useful 🤗
this bring back memories during my university day. there's a very good thai shop nearby that students love to go because it's delicious and cheap. when I'm not feeling like eating meat I'll always order 'vegetable tom yum'. the uncle always secretly put 3-4 shrimps in it because he didn't want us to starve hahah how i wish to be able to eat tomyum from that shop again
This is a very flavorful recipe. The only modification I made was to char the onion used to make the broth. I am thinking of using this soup as a base and adding other vegetables to make a hearty vegetable soup. Bok Choy, cabbage, broccoli, zucchini, even some blanched carrots would work in this soup base. Awesome recipe Pai.
Thank you so much! I've been trying to transition to vegetarian foods only, but it's hard to make veggie SE Asian dishes. I grew up on Thai and Lao food, and it's definitely something I don't want to give up.
Hi I am a new subscriber. I am an eggterian and Thai food is my second favorite next to my Indian cuisine. I just came across some of your videos and decided to subscribe. I love when you post vegetarian version of your recipes. Thank you.
P' Pai, I love your recipes! They are traditional, but original at the same time. Many of those helped get me through the rough stay in Germany. Thank you, thank you, thank you
Hi Pailin, thank for sharing this recipe. It looks very tasty and I love mushrooms and do enjoy vegetarian food too.I thought to share some of my experience in learning to cook vegan food whenever I volunteer at my local temple. I know it sounds odd, but two of the things that are not allowed in our Buddhism vegan food is garlic and onion. However, at home, my mom is not as strict on using them. For those who want more flavor in their veggies broth, use carrot, daikon, cabbage, apples, pineapples, and tomato. These should be slow cook for at least 1-2hr to get all of its nutrient and flavor. We discard all of them before adding more of our main ingredients. Usually we add pineapple to soup base that will be sweet and sour, where as apples are for the sweetness balance from the salty base. Most will always be carrots, daikons, and cabbages. I just want to share hoping to help someone interested in cooking vegan food.
Hi! FYI if you want to ask her directly rather than put it out to the community (see her note above on comments) you can use one of the links above under "Show more" and then "Connect with me". But that said, most Thai food is a combination of sweet, salty and sour (which is why it's so good :)) - so yes add the lime in! Cheers! Adam
Dear Pai, thank you again for your recipes and beautiful performance. My question is about glass noodles. I find them very hard to prepare....I have a problem cutting them and also would like to know how to use them right. Is it ok to just let them soak in water? Do they need cooking or can just put them into a soup or other dish after soaking in cold water just to get some heating with the dish? Thank you in advance! And have great days cooking for all of us!
You have to soak them for 7-10 minutes before cooking, and I cut them after they've been soaked. I have a few recipes with glass noodles, visit my website and do a search for "glass noodles". Hope this helps!
Thanks for this recipe, can’t wait to try it out! I’m vegan and live In England where food is bland and boring 😂 I like creative food that takes you on a flavour journey, so my partner and I love cooking Thai food especially and learning how to cook it right! I will check out more of your videos 👍
Hi Pailin, love your recipes. Could you do a vegan laksa? Also a vegan green or massamum curry? I’m addicted to your vegan red curry. Would be so grateful! Thanks! :)
Hi 👋 pailin. Im a vegan chef located in Florida and i've been watching your channel for years. Ive veganized lots of your recipes an have used them as a go to for all my Thai food. I have a question for you, what's your take on vegan fish sauce? Have you tried any of them?
Hi Steven! Adam here, and thanks! She did a post/video on fish sauce hot-thai-kitchen.com/fish-sauce-101/ and included a section on vegetarian versions if that helps? (I think we tried one of them and it wasn't bad at all.) Cheers for now! Adam
chicken most certainly not, I don't eat meat :) often you can take a recipe with meat, and replace the meat with vegetables... is that what you had in mind? replacing the chicken with pumpkin?
+Dry Dessert oh I see. I wasn't aware that you don't eat meat. I thought you asked for a Thai recipe with pumpkin, and squash is a little to pumpkin, so that's why I suggest. My bad haha
I had to look up squash in the dictionary, not a native English speaker. Will take a look. Again, if you're a bit creative, you can change recipes.. good taste is not guaranteed, of course. ;)
Do you need 2 soak shitake mushrooms & for how long do you soak this shitake mushroom. If i dont have cilantro root what can i use 2 substitue for it. Thanks.
Hi! FYI if you want to ask her directly rather than put it out to the community (see her note above on comments) you can use one of the links above under "Show more" and then "Connect with me". Cheers! Adam
Hi, Ms. Pailin. I'm asking you for some advices. 1)Can I substitute the cilantro for mint? I always love how well the mint goes with curry and asam laksa, but not sure about mint though. Will it destroy the taste of tom yum? 2)Could you please suggest any other substances to substitute shallot, onion, garlic? Because we will be eating 'jay' for religious reason (Taoism/Buddhism). 3)Can I add vegetables like cauliflower, baby corns, celery? 4)I would like to request a favour from you to make a tutorial/recipe for plant-based mango salad Thai (we call it 'kerabu mangga Thai' in Penang, Malaysia). It's one of my most favourite dish too =D Many thanks =)
Hi Joan! Re her comment above "if you want to ask me, please get in touch via Facebook, Twitter, Instagram or my website (all links are in the description above)". ... otherwise she doesn't respond to posts here after the first few weeks of a video posting :) Cheers!

I just tried it without mushrooms and everything else as per your recipe and I love the taste !! Thank you !!😍🤩
I’m thai and I didn’t think it was possible to make vegan Tom yum. Thank you so much for this recipie
Very interesting and creative.
Curious if adding freshly grilled mushrooms would be good?
🤔

Oh yum Pailin! its past midnight here in dubai and you got me salivating. also i was looking for a soup recipe with mushrooms. WE LOVE THAI FOOD!!
Love it!!!! Thank you for this vegan recipe, I always had to adjust some of the ingredients to make it meatless.
It's very good you mentioned lemon grass and other herbs is for infusing... otherwise I would pick lemongrass first to eat...as it looks nice :D
cabbage would be so good to add. I always order veggie tom yum and it's so freaking delish
Thank you so much! I've been trying to transition to vegetarian foods only, but it's hard to make veggie SE Asian dishes. I grew up on Thai and Lao food, and it's definitely something I don't want to give up.

Great suggestion! Thanks so much!
I was introduced to wood ear shrooms in China and fell in love with them! 😍
Can I use normal white radish instead of daikon radish? They look the same, but are they different?
It's so good! I made it for my family. Everyone loved it.
THANK YOU FOR SIMPLE RECIPE. I BEEN TO THAILAND FEW MONTHS AND LIKE THIS SOUP YOU MISSED THAI GREEN CHILLI IN IT.
Made this today and OMG so yummy! You are so talented and your recipes are always so easy to follow. More vegan recipes please!
what a wonderful recipe, thank you for putting so much thought into it!
I love your recipes, also your personality is so adorable!! Thanks for sharing
Is this like a tart "meaty" soup? I was really into it until I saw the lime juice go, is the lime juice a completely necessary ingredient?

great recipes... It really looks good
You are awesome just love your dishes by heart
Yay! Thank You for making a vegan version!
Cooking with tolking i love its hehhe
So delicious 😋 thanks 🙏 great Chanel
Could I also use dried shiitake mushrooms??
It looks so good! I will add tofu to it when I make it. Is it a no no to add tofu in Tom Yum? What's your opinion? Thank you.
You can add the tofu. I would go with soft tofu which I love in soup, or "tofu puff" which absorbs broth well.
You are so lovely Pailin and i love your shows... Keep up with new shows👍👍👍👍
This is really delicious. I added some bean sprouts at the end, they work well with this soup 😊
This looks phenomenal!!! thank you so so much for sharing, I'm absolutely going to make this.
Love your videos (and your beautiful purple top)! Thanks for the delicious vegan recipes!
Thank you! Joe Fresh ;)
looks tasty but any other ingredients to replace Garlic and Onion?
7 years ago. I remember watching this during my night shift 😊
Hey i bought a coconut sugar from thailand. What do i do with it? Is it the same with palm sugar?
Thanks you. Love Tom Yum Thailand.

looks delicious. got to try. i was wondering: are there any recipes for pumpkin in Thai cuisine?
Check out her Thai Chicken and Squash Curry video. I know you want pumpkin, but check it out

mmm might try this for lunch next week.. might take a chance and put some kombu in at the start.
Brilliant idea.
hi. are there any other options to make the vegetable stock and not add raddish?
Thank you!! Please post more vegan recipes! I can't wait to try this! Thank you from your vegan subscriber! 😄😄❤️
Looks Great! Sounds like quite a bit of work with many ingredients, but I'm sure its worth it.

Will a store bought vegetable stock work just as well?
Should work fine :)
Yes! Do more vegan! My daughter is allergic to fish so I can't use fish sauce and your recipes always look SO good!
You can always sub soy sauce for fish sauce in any of my recipes, or look for vegan fish sauce at Vietnamese grocery stores :)
+Pailin's Kitchen thank you!!!
Hi Pailin, understand that for this vegan tom yum recipe, you're using soy sauce but if I want to use fish sauce instead of soy sauce, is it okay?
