True. In part, it may be due to official issuance of "voting guides" as well as leadership stating between a candidate who is pro abortion vs one who is against welfare it is better to side with the one who is likely to help the poor who are already here. We had such a guide.

This type of sentiment -- the deviation between the clergy and the worshippers -- is the same as what was behind the protestant revolution... and most every other sectarian break.
