Lance Russell handling one of my favorite interviews ever. Nick Bockwinkel letting Jerry Lawler and the Memphis fans know that he’s not speaking to them, he’s speaking to his fans, and they understand every bit of English he uses! I like that there was one fan in the audience that supported him and applauded. 3 legends, a great watch and listen.
Damn Bockwinkel was awesome! What a great smug prick!😄 He looked like a '60s or '70s movie star "lowering" himself and his standards by coming to Memphis.
The feuds between Jerry Lawler and Nick Bockwinkel for the AWA World Heavyweight Championship were wild and furious. This was the AWA's version of the Dusty Rhodes/Ric Flair battles for the NWA World title. The interviews and promos were a lot better and more polished back then. Loved the clever choice and exchange of words with Lawler and Bockwinkel in this segment.
In chicago the AWA back in the 80's was on channel 26, good times indeed. Some great talent in the AWA prior to the rise of the WWF. I also thought Nick Bockwinkle was first class as a wrestler and an entertainer.
UHF channel 26, I watched wrestling on it, remember when it would come on late night?...WFLD was 32...and of course WGN TV channel 9...and let's not forget WTTW channel 11...
Right on!!! After watching this segment, I forgot the WWF or WWE even existed!!!!! That's the diffrence between Vince McMahon's promotion and other promotions. The other past and present promotions like NWA, AWA, Georgia Championship Wrestling, Florida Championship Wrestling, CWA, WCCW, and EVEN WCW-for the most part, ECW, TNA, and ROH used thire promotions to get over as a real sport. The WWE uses their promotion to get over as a television series.
This is exactly what separated Nick Bockwinkel from every other heel in wrestling history. His stellar command of the English language or vernacular was second to none.
Bockwinkel was a great heel. Just like Zabysko and Blancard, I hated his guts. Flair was a heel, but he was cool. There was nothing cool about Nick Bockwinkel. He was a smug prick and a great one.
Look at the people who came to Memphis to wrestle Lawler: Hogan, Terry Funk, Jack Brisco, Nick Bockwinkle, Austin Idol, Brusier Brody, Ric Flair, Eddie Gilbert, Bill Dundee and then some...
I don't mind if guys exaggerate their height a little. I mean it's wrestling NBD. But when a guy is short, listing his height at 6'0 doesn't make any sense.
Well you have to look at like this: 1) NWA had their main Face and Heel in Dusty Rhodes and Ric Flair 2) WWF had ther main Face and Heel in Hulk Hogan and Roddy Piper 3) WCCW had their main Face and Heel in Kerry Von Eric and Chris Adams 4) AWA had their main Face and Heel in Nick Bockwinkel/Larry Zybsco and SGT Slaughter/ Greg Gange. In the CWA, Jerry Lawler was the main Face and Eddie Gilbert was the main Heel. I did not even get into the UWF, GCW, FCW, or ICCW.
So true, wrestling was so much better back then. When a heel can draw so much heat that they can incite the fans, like Zybysko did when fueding with Bockwinkle. I always thought he was going to get jumped by the fans on his way to the ring. I got to see all of the wrestling you listed, it was so much better than the crap today.
@hoghash78 In this era,all the wrestling promotions were territorial, meaning that you were most likely to be loyal to the one that aired in your region.
“He finished grade school down in this part of the country didn’t he?” Lmaoooooo so GREAT
"He did finish grade school down in this part of the country, didn't he?" CLASSIC Bockwinkel!
I miss those days. Late 70's early 80's were a lot of fun watching Memphis wrestling.
Two genuine legends; Lawyer and Bockwinkel ....
The AWA World Heavyweight belt was a beautiful belt.

This is the best belt I have ever seen

Joke book vs The Dictionary, doesn’t get any better than that, two of the best in the ring and out
WWF wanted Bockwinkel to be the million dollar man

Ti
What a belt ....

Since 1950 Nick been out here

bockwinkel could cut the hell out of a promo
Yep,AWA Wrestling on WCIU 26!! The good old days!!
If Nick Bockwinkel was 5'10" how can Lawler be 6'0"?
don't ask...lol
I don't mind if guys exaggerate their height a little. I mean it's wrestling NBD.
But when a guy is short, listing his height at 6'0 doesn't make any sense.
@@MrK623 well Hogan was never 6' 7" either lol its magic
Yes that's true. He was much taller (6'5) before his back surgeries. Prob 6'2-3 now.
Andre was never taller than about 6'10 but he looked taller.
But Hogan was tall you can see it when he stands next to Andre. What I am saying is Lawler has to be about 5'8 if Bockwinkle is 5'10.
Did jerry lawler vs greg valentine ever take place?
bothe are badassess
This territory stuff is classic ..God bless the net
Yes, there used to be a time when pro wrestling had room for all other promotions including Vince McMahon's WWE!!!
Nick bockwinkel been wrestling since 1950
Bockwinkel could have taken over JJ Dillons role as the manager of Ric Flair when JJ left the nwa
