Johnny was actually at the Viper Room when River collapsed and died. He said he was on stage playing with Flea and didn't find out until he got offstage and went outside and saw paramedics working on some young man and was told that it was River. He was devastated.
Yes, that was also on Biography. He shut the place down for 2 weeks after that.

I respect Johny Depp for his fine and versatile acting, his excellent guitar playing, his cool fashion sense, and for his wit and intelligence. I haven't seen his art work yet, but sense it will be as excellent as his other gifts. He has cleared his reputation. The road ahead looks good for him, however the public has learned of his long time addictions which may get the better of him. Michael Jackson, Leger, Andy Gibbs and others who overdosed accidentally. I hope and pray he will not continue to travel the dark side but rather find the light and the One who gave him all his talent and wealth and children. Thank you Lord for your gifts in Johny Depp and for his love to entertain us. Keep him well and keep him away from drugs and evil people. Amen

I loved Johnny Depp in so many of his movies. His character in Pirates of the Caribbean is one of my favorites. The Barber is another special character, especially when he and Alan Rickman shared a scene and sang about Alan getting a shave. His latest role as Grindelwald in Fantastic Beasts, The Crimes of Grindelwald was terrific. I pray that his current issues with ex-wife AH be resolved soon. The movie world can not loose this actor to personal problems. He is one of the few pure talents left out there.
Janet, how old are you? Johnny as Grindelwald, as well as POTC, as Captain Jack Sparrow, are not the only movies he's ever done! Not even with Sweeney Todd! He's done a lot more movies, that methinks you were too young to see, when they came out! Have you ever watched any episodes of 21 Jump Street? You can't base an actor on 3 movies. And, Johnny Depp has done at least 81 movies! So, how do you justify grading him on 3, out of 81? One of my favourites is RANGO, Dark Shadows, Tonto{known to the public as The Lone Ranger}, Benny & Joon, Into The Great Wide Open, Don Juan DeMarco, Donnie Brasco, Blow, & on, & on...These are just off the top of my head! He's much more than what you understand yet. But, it may come later, as you watch his older movies. Captain Jack was his very best, as far as I'm concerned! I feel we get more Johnny Depp in those movies than in any others, well he's totally himself in RANGO! I've watched him doing voicework, along with the physical work, as to how this gecko moves around, & it's priceless! Do educate yourself, dear...
I prefer the collaborations with Tim Burton, Jim Jarmusch and Emir Kusturica.

I did not say I didn't like Johnny's earlier work or was not aware of it. I merely said those were my favorites. Johnny is an incredible actor who has lost so much because of these innuendos and outright lies. All of his past work has a purity to it. He throws himself into his characters and that is what makes him a great actor. Today's actors and actresses read lines and the results come out flat. My post is more concerned with the loss of him as an actor and feels saddened to think that after all that Hollywood has put him through over this, that he may step away from the film industry and return to music only. It is his first love and this may be the impedance that finally drives him away. He is hurt and needs to rest from all of this mess. So we will have to wait and see how all of this stuff affects him.
