I was lucky enough to witness their set in 98 at Birmingham Q Club. I didn't know what was going on. Mind blowing it was and I am only just now truly realising the greatness of this collective. How these guys came together to make this music. Their dedication, vision and skill is out of this world. All masters of their individual crafts. Listen to Roni talking about simultaneously hearing different types of music on different sound systems and how he could hear a new music in the discord and chaos of that sound, the genius of having a live rhythm section bringing dynamics and true musicality to loops and samples. The gear they used and the way it forced them to work was groundbreaking at the time and was key to getting everything to work in a live setting. It seems that there really was a sweet spot at this time in music production that allowed Roni and Reprazent to know their gear to the fullest extent, use it precisely in the most effective way that meant that live shows and material could sound as good as the recorded album, but there still existed that flexibility to do something a bit different onstage. MC Dynamite knew his lyrics, they were well rehearsed, they knew their material, they knew their cues. I can't help think that as computer technology progressed so rapidly in the years following '98 that it became almost impossible for musicians using electronic kit in this way to keep up and still know their gear sufficiently well enough to maintain that ability to make this kind of set up work live. They were geniuses because the music was complex and they dominated their gear. The hours and hours spent and dedication to EQ all those samples, man... It is seen as a slow laborious task these days but it afforded them an attention to detail and workflow that was fundamental to their art.
absolutely drum'n'bass dope, performed by the legendary Roni Size Reprazent crew at his best, energy, excellence, quality grooves, , inspiration, Maad soundz, greats performers/musicians,... a New forms, still in power in 2022, A cornestone of the drum'n'bass jungle history, good vibes forever Thx aka Midnight raver's( BZH /Fr)
This is way ahead of its time, but i was living it in those days as a teenager. I feel sorry for the kids growing up now, but maybe thanks to YT they can relive the true spirit of jungle/dnb. But nothing beats the real thing, and since very little things came close… ❤

Is anyone making music like this today? Would love to hear some recommendations.
I would pay good money to get hold of a decent copy of this.... wicked!
maybe in some dusty cupboard deep in the bowels of the BBC...
Flawless musicians :)
Heavy and reference! Greetings from Brazil!
this is the only kind of electronic dance music that can be played live with instruments and still sounds good
the drummer is sick
and the whole performance is epic
a classic dnb lesson who will last through the sands of time
That drummer is Clive Deamer, the live drummer in Portishead, and Radiohead. I had the pleasure of playing with him once :)
Спасибо.

Sijon is a beast of a drummer.
