  • Here is the first video from my small print house.
As a huge fan of classic horror cinema, I decided to create a poster / linoprint that would be my tribute to one of the greatest filmmakers of all time: Alfred Hitchcock and his legendary "Psycho". The film was shot at the turn of February and March 2023, and the entire process you see in the film lasted about three weeks. Beside from the initial concept drawing, which I unfortunately did not filmed.

It's actually criminal that your videos don't have more likes. I love what you do, and hope to see more like this in the future.

Thanks Rick. As you noticed, I don't have many views, so now - at the beginning of what I'm doing, I don't want to post too many videos. I will definitely make two new ones this spring and summer. I'll start working on the first one in April, so it will appear sometime in July, and the other one will probably appear sometime in early autumn. Thanks for your kind words.

Amazing print. Such a flawless carving and a beautiful watercolor layer without it getting too much and taking away from the print. Hats off!

Thanks, I really appreciate it. Yes, that was the idea to keep the whole set of prints similar as possible, I couldn't go too deep in details in coloring. The whole process needed to be easy to repeat.

Thanks Jacek. I'll do my best to keep filming. There is a lot what I need to learn about video editing and it takes time, but definitely I will continue. One-and half month of drawing/carving/printing and then in my case at least two weeks of video editing... I will make it :) Thanks once again.

great quality of work and process. one comment would be that the footage was filmed in an area far too dark to really get a good look at the in between scenes.

Yes, it's true - some shots are too dark, but this is my first experience with filming. "Psycho - linocut" is my very first video I have ever made. In the second one - "The Leading Lights" I tried to do it better, but there are still a few things to improve. I'm slowly collecting material for my third film and I'll try to do some things better. But as you write - in this video, many shots are too dark. Lesson learned.

Superb work! Very soothing to watch you at work in these videos.
Is there any reason you applied the watercolor after the pressing? Would applying it before affect the ink? I was just thinking the ink might be more solid if it was applied after the watercolor.
Anyway great work I hope to see more! Subscribed.

Thank you for nice comment.I appreciate it. So... combining linocut with watercolors is a quite popular method. There is only one condition - you must use oil ink. Oil does not react with water, so if you start painting with watercolor over the print - as I did, the ink will remain black as it was and the watercolor will only cover the white paper. Would it be possible to put the watercolor first and then print on the top of that? I think so. I sometimes soak the paper before printing, so it doesn't really matter whether the water is clean or contains watercolor. I've never tried it... but I think it would work.

PS: Quick warrning. Because of the montage of this video it may look like I'm painting just right after I printed that. Of course I let it dry first. If you will start painting on wet oil - probably print will stay fine, but definitely you will destroy your brush. Let it dry first. Thanks once again.

Where’d you get your magnifying glasses/headset?

I bought it online. This type of magnifying glasses are used by jewelers or watchmakers. Search the Internet, you will surely find it.

Such a close shave on the lettering! I find it very difficult to keep the line weight of letter borders consistent. Beautiful work and a lovely delicate wash of crimson that really enhanced the piece. Is the relative darkness of the video an homage to Hitchcock/ due to winter daylight/ an artistic decision, or some combination of the three?

    • @Thrashead-ns7iw
      @Thrashead-ns7iw  10 місяців тому +1

Thanks for kind comment - I really appreciat it. The fact that I did this print in winter is pure coincidence. I'm constantly drawing something and carving lino - it just so happened that "Psycho" came out in the winter period. Also, this video is my first attempt at filming and video editing and I'm sure I made some mistakes with my camera settings: ISO or "f" - this also affects the image quality and in some shots the video is a bit too dark. For example, opening shots with the moon could definitely be done better. I'll try to improve it in the next video... which is slowly being made. I'll probably drop it in here in September. Once again - big thanks!

@@sriontimaitra6804 Thanks. If you like, I've just posted a short teaser for this upcoming video - and looking at this teaser, actually you might be right about the darkness and there's something more than just "pure coincidence" - what I mentioned above. We never know. Thanks again and cheers!
