  • Julien Alfred will compete in a few open 400m races in 2025. Will it help her in the shorter sprints, and possibly allow her to challenge Gabby Thomas and Shericka Jackson over 200m?

      We'll yea ofcourse she's competitive, but running more 400s will likely bring her into closer contention with the top two.
      As you can see in other comments, mention Shericka Jackson in any type of sentence with another athlete, let alone being competitive with anyone else, and its "disrespectful".

      @ it is healthy conversation, I just don’t agree with you! Shericka when healthy cannot be and will not be beaten by a healthy Gabby or Alfred! Of course both can improve but so too can Jackson! People look at things one sidedly to make their case/point forgetting that in sports the operative phrase is: All things being equal! Good or superior athletes can beat the competition without any help(mistakes, failures, misfortune, injury etc), others may have a “one-off” moment and still there are those who win with because of mediocre competition! Most fans don’t see these nuances, they go immediately to win/loss!

    • @TheWayWithKhuwayne
      @TheWayWithKhuwayne День тому +1

      But Shericka being healthy might not be the same Shericka who ran 21.4s the past couple of years. There's a possibility she may only run as fast 21.6 or 21.7 since it will be her first full year from injuries.
      I think the situation is a lot more complicated than what people expect it to be.
      Let's see how frequently Shericka runs and what she puts out there first before anything.

    • @TheFinalLeg

      Well yea, but you never know the progress any athlete can make when they start to make adjustments in their training and racing. Elaine took things to another level in 2021, Shericka took things to another level in 2022. Not saying that Julien will be running 21.5 or 21.4 this year, or even next year, but she could make some noticeable improvements in the 100/200 after doing some early season 400m races.

    I think the 400m races will help. Both her and Dina really struggled towards the end of the 300m at Boston, so it's clearly an area that can be improved. I think without the extra speed endurance she could probably get fairly close to Gabby Thomas, with it she should be able to be more competitive with Gabby. Shercika is another matter, getting down to 21.4's may be beyond her unless she can make significant speed endurance improvments. That said Elaine Thompson-Herah has managed 21.53 and her 400m is not great. Elaine used to run early season 400m go out fast and come home last in not great times, then again, I'm not sure Julien has Elaine's top end, though that may also come.
    I'm looking forward to seeing what McKenzie can do this year. McKenzie also hasn't run many 400m or 4x400m and probably has as much potential as Julien.

    • @TheFinalLeg
      @TheFinalLeg  17 годин тому

      Yea the last 50 of that 300m was definitely tough for both Julien and Dina, but it will almost certainly help with her 200m and 100m races this year. Agree that Shericka is on a different level and hope I was clear in differentiating that here. But it will be interesting to see how Julien progresses since this is only the beginning of her career.
      Yea Elaine's 400m best is only 55 seconds, so clearly Julien is capable of doing better than that (having already split 51s on the 4x4) meaning a 21.6 or 21.5 in the future is not out of the question, though every athlete is different.
      Probably agree that McKenzie likely has as much potential as Julien when talking about the 200m for sure.

    If you are a student, Of Track and field history you know that There have only been a few men and women who were dominant at 100 and 200. When I mean dominant , i'm talking about world record dominant Or who we're close to it. You have Carl Lewis Of course.
    Florence Griffin Joyner in 1988 The most dominant one year Of any female athlete in history.in track and Felid And of course Usain Bolt 2009 in Berlin set the standard that will perhaps never be Surpass if shericka Stay's healthy. And by her running at 60 m this year. And if she improves her start, she Will be A force to reckon with in the one hundred Now, at 200 like I said, if she's in tip top shape. If.
    You cannot run in the low21.5s at 200ms Which we know there's only 3 women in 200m History.

      Correct that were athletes who were dominant throughout history. FLojos' single 1988 season was extremely dominant, and I would have to look back through history to see more comparisons, but I know that Marjorie Jackson in 1952 also had an insanely dominant 100/200 year having broken both world record 2 times that year and won both Olympic gold medals in Helsinki

    I know it's going to be a tough game. Gabby n Jackson are equally fast like Julien. But with Julien's high performance in 300 I tip she can win.

      Julien is not equally fast as a healthy Shericka in any event. Also she is not faster than Gabby in the 200m.

      I think if everyone is healthy, its Shericka, then Gabby, then Julien. But Julien will get closer to the 21.7s and 21.6s if she continues to build her speed endurance for sure.
