    This was the most helpful video I've come across. Planning a river trip very soon. And wasn't able sure how to go about it. Dams are a big problem with rivers. Definitely want to avoid them if you can and this helps. Thanks man

    peace river is a nice river for kayak camping and fishing. with all the rain we have been having lately, you should have plenty of water.midway between nocatee bridge and lettuce lake there is a small finger called hancock lake. its good bass fishing. There are lots of camping spots along the river. weather is cooling off a little so it should be a good trip. Half way between hancock lake and lettuce lake the river gets wider. stay to the sides, lots if airboats and some don't care if you are in a kayak. If the river is close to normal, You will have plenty of sandbars

      @TripSmith  8 років тому

      Awesome Ernie, several people have mentioned how nice it is. I'll make a note of the fishing hole. Hope we don't get hit by an airboat, I'm sure we'll be fine. Can't wait!

    I love your videos! I just got into kayaking and I love your channel. Unfortunately I live in Portland in an apartment so I don't have space for a hard shell kayak, but I got into the inflatable game. I'm currently saving for sea eagle's explorer 380x. Once I get that, I'll feel comfortable going on longer adventures!

      Glad you enjoy them Ethan! Nothing wrong with an inflatable, whatever gets you out there! Have you scene the new PAKAYAK? It's a brand new company (I put in a small amount for their kickstarter and they made it happen). It's pretty cool, a full touring kayak pretty much that you can carry like a backpack... Google it!

    Last night I looked at an area I did Sunday. I went right for a few hours and back. If I went left there was an island a big one with tons of trees called constitution island in New York. It runs Hudson river. I was nervous Sunday as it was my first solo with my kayak. I went with groups twice. So I have to wait till two more weeks as I have the two weekend with camping sites and river by it as I will take my kayak to this weekend one just to go across the river and back sort of thing there. I need to hook up my Google earth on my laptop and it won't work on my android tablet. This video was a giant help and thank you. I think next Thursday I will go out to that island to explore and not stealth camp. In my neck of the woods sailing window is to Halloween as the river gets to cold and frozen starting November till March. I might have to make a trip to Canada not to far at Montreal to see to find a river near there. Hostels are only 25.00 a night there. Don't know there laws.on wild stealth camping. If I see I can do it the second night there I will just stealth camp. If not just stay at the hostel. I think this trip will be for me in February. Need to save for it.

    About 12 years ago I ask dnr on lake Thurmond at the dam about camping by the waterside and was told as long as I was within 10 feet of the water it was legal because of their waterway right of way. That included all rivers. So check behind me cause federal campground areas and state parks do have extra rules but if you have up dated info or florida areas are different cause I had specifically ask the feds about ga. By the way the satilla river is awesome. But like y'all we do have gators. Never been bothered on our 4 day trips can make them longer if you want. Bring bug spray for camp!

    Hey Trip great video! I just took my first 2 day adventure down Holmes creek and was curious as to the mileage. Looks like I'm breaking out the laptop and installing Google earth! I was following myself on Google maps on my Android but it wasn't showing mileage and then I ran into battery problems even with my charger, so this will be a great tool to check mileage. Keep up the great work bud!

      @TripSmith  8 років тому +1

      Thanks Cam! Holmes Creek is on my short list of next adventures! How was it? How about parking and camping? I'm sure you'll have fun on Google Earth. Glad you enjoy the videos!

    • @camman1925
      @camman1925 8 років тому

      SailingandSuch it was awesome. It's a lazy river with lots of twists, turns and obstacles to maneuver around. No rapids but great scenery with beautiful springs and much bigger and longer than I had expected. It flows all the way to Greyton Beach which you are familiar with!! We launched from Burnt Sock Landing which is new and the Northern most launch site. Very remote.
      The only night we camped was an outfitters launch whom we are good friends with on private property. Alot of the creek is Florida water management so one could camp anywhere along there but there are alot of stretches posted private property.
      As far as parking, I think parking at an outfitter would be the best bet as most of the landings are very remote and unpopulated. My kayaking buddy lives in Vernon so we had his gf drop us off and pick us up.
      Whenever your ready let me know what stretch you want to do and I can arrange parking and pickup!

    dumb question but like if I do this alone....how should I plan to return to my car? I assume kayaking back upstream isn't doable due to rapids

    • @TripSmith
      @TripSmith  4 роки тому

      It depends on the type of water you are paddling in. If the water is flowing I tend to try to get a shuttle of some sort. no one likes paddling upstream lol

    How do you plan for getting back home after your done the trip

    • @TripSmith
      @TripSmith  4 роки тому +1

      Depends. Sometimes I have my family or someone pick my up. Or either I let someone follow me to the take out point and leave my vehicle and have someone shuttle me back up to the start. Sometimes you have to get creative... It can be the toughest part of a trip logistically.

    Trip, I'm planning two separate kayak trips for this spring/summer but i'm not sure how many miles would be reasonable to try to achieve in two days. How many miles do you normally cover per day on an average trip?

    • @TripSmith
      @TripSmith  7 років тому

      +Backpacking GO Lots of variable here bud. What are you paddling? How good of shape are you in? How fast is the water flowing? Wind blowing in your face? I'd say 10 miles is pretty easy

    • @BackpackingGO
      @BackpackingGO 7 років тому

      Thanks trip!! I have done quite a bit of kayak fishing in the past but I've never worried about distance covered before. The trip I'm planning is about 34 miles so I will try splitting it up into three days since the overall consensus seems to be around 10 miles per day!! Thanks for your help!! I love your videos keep up the awesome work!!

      Gators worry about encountering me ;) Just kidding. I haven't seen any live ones while paddling believe it or not.... But I have seen a dead one floating in the river (Upper Pea River Trip video) and tracks on a sand bar I camped on (I think the Upper Pea as well....) I don't worry to much though, they are naturally more scared of us and run from humans....
