Dehumidifiers are fantastic, draw the moisture out of the air and the drier air actually makes the room feels warmer. I bought one thinking it would be another gadget not used but ended up buying a second one and they're not a gimmick. It does what it says on the tin😃

You definitely need a dehumidifier maybe even two, caravans a notorious for condensation issues, years ago my mum had a holiday caravan and when the site was closing for winter we used to put small buckets off salt around , when we came back in the spring the buckets were full of water but there was no mould anywhere, but nowadays dehumidifier’s are the answer. So pleased to hear the news about the site fees and glad your sore tooth is now better, but you must register with a doctor .❤️

As others have said, a dehumidifier could make a big difference in your caravan, Ivan. I have a Meaco which I find a great help for drying washing indoors. Giving the laundry an extra spin is a must for me in the winter months as I don't have working central heating. I'm planning on getting another dehumidifier soon so I have one upstairs and one downstairs.

Dehumidifiers are the way to go. They'll stop the moisture building up, heaters just evaporate it.

You really need to get a dehumidifier as all you're doing is building up the moisture in the air and lowering the radiator efficiency. Also, get a cloth and wipe the windows down when you start to see condensation, as it will help stop mold.

We sold our static last December when site fees had risen to £5200 a year with virtually no facilities on our site, we had a pub that was originally someone's house, they did meals but they were rubbish a constant turnover of staff. If you wanted a newspaper you had to drive over 2 miles into town down very narrow country lanes.

A dehumidifier would cure the problem with condensation. Do some research first as the prices vary and some have a laundry function which helps to dry washing.

I personally wish I had never sold my home after my husband’s passing. Living in Lodges and Caravans is awful - and I am stuck with my choice till I die. They are cold, dank, damp, dreary and take lots of upkeep. Not good at all for elderly, disabled and those, like me, who are totally alone as well. Bad choice! Site fees here now over £7,000p/a plus all the high (no choice) electric, insurance, gas and myriad other hidden problems and charges. You will NOT be told much when you purchase either..only the “good stuff”.

We have a static caravan on a small non residential site which is open 11 months of the year. The original contract was for 15 years and we have been allowed to extend it for 5 years at a cost of £2,100.00 which we are delighted about.

Ivan , regarding the condensation on your duvet . Look at the 'Aero 360' system . I used it successfully in our caravans for many years with good results . Your problem of course is the fact both you & your wife are breathing , the moisture when you exhale immediately condenses . The drier the air , the less effect from breathing .

When I had a caravan which had both central heating and double glazing you could still get a damp bedcover on top . A little dehumidifier did the job also keeping the Karcha Window vac handy to draw off any from the window if one of us woke up at night . Important to get registered with gp - health is everything ,

Thanks Ivan, good to see that you are ok now and things are well on the site. Unfortunately when living in a caravan or boat you are effectively in a metal tube with very thin walls but also you have three things that emit water vapour into the air, you, Ginny and the gas fire so it may be a good idea to leave the bedroom door slightly ajar at night then leave the heater on at a low setting all night. I also think that a dehumidifier would be a great addition to battle against the damp. Take care and all the best. Stevie

Another vote for a dehumidifier. I had a Meaco Arete One 12L delivered today, and am already really happy with it. In 5 hours the humidity has gone down from 75-58%, which is amazing, and it feels a bit warmer, too. I'm not using my heating yet. If you buy one make sure you get a model with castors and a handle, as even a small one like mine is around 11kg and would be tricky to move around without them. Definitely a great buy, and at 4p an hour to run it's not going to break the bank, though I won't have it switched on 24/7 - I'm thinking maybe 6-8 hours a day.

if you are heating/cooking with bottled gas they are renown for the humidity they create. I would as others have said look at getting a dehumidifier as this will also improve the heat in the van as dryer air does feel warmer etc.

Cannot recommend a dehumidifier enough. As others have said they remove litres of water from the atmosphere, warm the air, help dry washing quickly and cost very little to run. My dehumidifier has been a game changer. Last year I had mould develop in my wardrobe (on outside wall of house). Not a problem since then. x

Hi Ivan another informative video, but I'm a little concerned for your health if your bed covers feel damp during the night, this suggests your bedroom is far too cold and your warm breath is contributing to excess moisture. You do seem fixated about energy usage but honestly during the winter months you do need to keep warm as you will get all sorts of health problems potentially hypothermia or even pneumonia. I would suggest firstly a temperature gauge in your bedroom, you certainly do not want to be getting into bed in a freezing cold room, secondly leave your panel heater on set to at least 16 degrees or even higher, a dehumidifier would be a godsend, and lastly have a regular monthly energy savings space to avoid nasty bill surprises as most people build up credit to allow for extra usage in winter months. You need to definitely register for a GP because sleeping in a damp bedroom is potentially life threatening, sorry to be a scaremonger but trust me you will get ill if you don't take action. Take care both of you Steve

So you may have some good news, but damp, condensation on your bedding isnt good, we have never experienced that, but we had heaters low almost 24/7 Sorry but using a dehumidifier in a static caravan is a waste of time and money, as static caravans have so many vents built into them to keep them aired, you will be drawing moist air from out side, it's not safe to block all of these vents off,. Re your site fees rising, if you do move to a residential park, the anual increase is caped at 3%, this I a government ruling, part of the park home act. I've mentioned before, to save money change your gas supplier from calor gas, to and independent one, we pay £65 for the same 47kg cylinder that calour charge £86 for, so it's well worth shopping around.
