Also would love for us to get an interview with Brando every year, maybe a month after the State of Sanderson so Daniel can process the news and provide great questions like he always does

Expecting attention =/= expecting to make the most funded +50% and near most (65% of #1 spot) backed kickstarter of all time.
The sheer attention from the $30+ million figure alone is likely to get at least one Cosmere film or TV adaptation green lit or fast tracked into production, or at the very least something like Reckoners to gauge wider public interest in his mojo.

Really appreciated his comments on amazon, monopolies, and the focus on bestsellers. I have also noticed that the midlister is slowly dissapearing from the industry. The people who never top the lists but have over the years built an audience that just keeps them afloat. That's getting harder and harder these days. All the money is concentrating at the top. It's worrying to say the least.

I haven't read half of Sanderson's work yet, but he's easily my favorite author. Yeah, because his books are consistently good, but really mostly like him because he's so generous to his audience. I'm usually not interested in hero worship, but I'd at least like to shake his hand someday.

    • @JacobyMc

I find it amazing how good Daniel can be as an interviewer. Some times you see interviews where the interviewer doesn`t seem to know what to ask or how to make the talk flow, and you can do it amazingly “easly”. Well done, good sir.
Sanderson’s take on publishers and bookstores is so good to hear and now that we have big authors knowing the importance of those.

The worst is when the interviewer asks a leading question, then talks over the guest and just makes the whole conversation about herself.

What I learned to love in Sanderson is not only his super transparency, it's also his honest awareness he has to the fact that his success isn't 100% his.
The appreciation he speaks about to "bookstore workers who shared my books", to the fan base, his openness to parody (a lot of "top guns" are too up the ego trip to appreciate parodies), even the way he worries about new authors, which all come very genuine from him.
He *remembers* the time before breaking out, he 8remembers* the journey, and all the people who were part of it. That's what makes him a great PERSON, in my opinion, not just a great author.

I’ve never read a Sanderson book and traditionally I find myself preferring Sci-Fi to Fantasy, but the Kickstarter announcement, success, and Daniel’s general enthusiasm about it has given me a Sanderson bug. I am setting out to read Sanderson’s books in the very near future. He's actually commented about this on reddit!
"This is a big point that I think is really relevant.
I've been holding out on adaptations, lately, until I can be absolutely certain the deal I'm getting gives me a lot of creative influence and power. Maybe not final cut, but more power than your average author--and certain assurances about what can't be changed narratively.
One of the goals for this kickstarter was, secretly, to make Hollywood pay attention. I had no idea how far we'd go, but what has happened here WILL make things over there easier--and will influence the strength of my negotiating position."

I’m sure you don’t read all these comments. LoL I would not if I was you lol You get so many every day
I want to apologize upfront. But I am not a nerd. I want to specify a nerd in my world is so different from what you guys characterized as. Born in 1983. I read the first two books in the past year of 2023 Mistborn. I still don’t know what I feel but I’m enjoying the discovery. I have not done that in a very long time. I am a 40-year-old man and I am loving the journey so far. Just getting into fantasy in the last year or so Thank you so much because I never heard of Brandon Sanderson until about a year ago or so until I went to your UA-cam page. I just I got back from deployment and I was lost and I did not know what to do but I started reading books that your channel recommended. Thank you so much because there are some mornings I wake up with my PTSD and I’m trying to figure out what to do and I just logged onto UA-cam lol my mind from all those crazy experiences. I finished the green bone saga. I loved that series so much. My first fancy trilogy ever Made me feel like I was part of the godfather. Thank you so much for your recommendation. Because however, I would never have open the book if it wasn’t for what you said thank you.❤. I’m trying to finish Harry Potter and I will admit it’s feels too childish to me. Maybe you can do a video on y a to adults.
The problem I found was, I don’t relate very well with the young books. I am so happy they’re around, but as I’ve gotten older, I’ve learned I don’t relate to them very well, so I’m leaning towards adult fiction lol. They are not bad books at all. I have enjoyed reading them, but I am noticing that it feels not real to me.
You may never read this post. From what I gather on social media most creative don’t read this far. However, there are many of us out there, who just admire a good old fashion human being, who be are doing fantastic in this world. I thank you for that, sir. I wish I could be as brave as you are. I am doing my best in my world and it’s very difficult to put all that on the line.
I just wanna say thank you for putting out what you do. Because there are many people like me who don’t have a voice and we’re out there trying to figure it out. I just want to be cared for by the people who love me and I love them and I hope the world and embraces that.

The thing about this is that it proves that people actually still want to read full length novels. People reading is a big win!

Sanderson takes elements from the promotions and customer communication that exists around gaming, especially live service properties, and attaches them to "stodgy" "legacy" media like genre novels. Consistent and frequent creator live letters, video updates, swag and multimedia art, having a finger on the pulse of the fandom, etc. All of this fosters the "inexplicable" following and fan loyalty he commands.

I haven't read anything new in the last couple of years other than Robin Hobb's Farseer Trilogy. I keep re-listening(is that a word?) To Brandon's Mistborn and SA series on audible. Thoroughly enjoy the series and the stories don't get old.

Thanks for the great interview. For future interviews, I hope you can converse more rather than just ask questions. More conversation stule

Thank you both for this excellent interview. I always want to ask Mr. Sanderson if he likes the Netflix 'Arcane' Style animation for any of his properties? For me, Stormlight would be amazing in that style.

I do wonder if we will ever meet an *old* Hoid, since he seems to travel forward through time from one important event to the next.

Brando Sando the one author who wants to die in all adaptations of his work. Love it.

I would love to see Mistborn movies I think they would translate really well with the proper budget. I never thought Stormlight would make much sense in other formats but after watching Arcane I think an animated show in that style would be awesome
