There were others but Jimmy was the main man bringing the B3 from the church to the jazz clubs and influenced so many music genres in doing so. Thank you, Jimmy! Nothing sounds like the 1930's tone wheel. Thank you, Laurens Hammond.
The first time I ever heard this tune was when I was back in grade school (early 70's). Our school had a local jazz combo come in to expose us to different kinds of music. I never, even after all these years was able to get "The Cat" out of my head...biggest ear worm ever! I have always believed that this song started my on my path to becoming a professional singer/songwriter/guitar player.
Growing up in a Household with my father who is a WW2 Vet, I was exposed to this music at a very young age. The quality of this video is good given the age. I still have a original pressing of "The Cat" album in my collection. So glad that today's generation is also discovering vinyl, my kids now in their mid-late 20's act like they just discovered electricity. If you like Piano BTW pull up some Eubie Blake, clearly one of the great pianists of all time. Having both Jimmy and Eubie in your organ and piano collection will keep you young and happy forever. 😎

this recording is remarkably clean with good mixing, powerful horns, clean organ and percussion. Got a really good playback system? Yamaha AS-3000 driving Klipsch Horns with servo bass....? START 0:29.
Jimmie is hot on the organ, but I play the drums, and will probably have to watch this video again several times so I can learn a few things. So tight!
This cat can play. Can't deny him that. Horns are a nice edition and he uses the fast mode on the Leslie that Jimmy didn't. Everyone that plays this song plays it their own way
Just reading "the scent of death" by Simon Beckett and they talked bout this Song during a Car ride. So I found some, for me new Music I like lol Strange Way to find Music, what would we do without the Internet, can't really remember these Times. If you are interested in Thriller and Forensics, try Simon Beckett, but start with the first of the David Hunter Serie . Would be cool if you would find a Book you like through Jimmy Smith 😁 Have a nice Day everybody .
I am not familiar with this relatively new artist Jimmie Smith. I remember the original Jimmy Smith rocking the Hammond B3 back in the day. Woodward Avenue Records was founded several years after the original Jimmy Smith passed.
That's not the real (original) Jimmy Smith. The names are spelled differently, the sound is different, and they don't look alike. This guy spells his name "Jimmie". The Jimmy Smith of the 50's, 60's, and 70's spelled his name "Jimmy". If you compare this guy to pictures of the original Jimmy Smith you can clearly see that they are not the same person. He's stolen the Jimmy Smith persona. 😕😕
Yeah, this gentleman does a fine job on the organ. But he is absolutely, nowhere even close to the famous Jimmy Smith. He should really think about trading under a name that won't always invite comparisons
Filmato falso. Al minuto 1:33 e 2:26 si sentono risposte corali della sezione fiati.... e contemporaneamente, si vede bene nel video che la sezione fiati non sta assolutamente suonando. Questo filmato non è Live.
That's not Jimmy. There is one Jimmy. But I really did Dig your Command of the Hammond. Don't look down Brother. Don't look Back. Just Go, Go+Go. I just played your Cat to my 2 year old Daughter. Ravi from London in Australia
Jimmy would not share his registrations. But, people figured it out by trial and error. Great clip, with horns. The Hammond sk2 in the background was not around when Jimmy was alive. The playing sounds okay, but Jimmy put on a lot of weight.
Well-l-l, maybe this guy's name is Jimmy Smith but this is not THE REAL Jimmy Smith! His fingering is not nearly as crisp and same soul as the genuine article is simply not there. If you're going to do a cover, say so ... don't just hijack everything including the name.
There is nothing, anywhere in the world of music, that can beat the sound of a well played Hammond/Leslie......nothing.....period.
You took the words out of my mouth! I love playing my B-3. My Hammond Keyboards are a hit wherever I play.
THE greatest organ player in the WORLD the Hammond was made for Jimmy .. he is totally and utterly amazing, .. wow
There were others but Jimmy was the main man bringing the B3 from the church to the jazz clubs and influenced so many music genres in doing so. Thank you, Jimmy! Nothing sounds like the 1930's tone wheel. Thank you, Laurens Hammond.
Nothing today, sounds like this!! It makes the soul float! and just can't stop moving together
Best version I've heard of this song without a doubt!!!!!!
👍 Zseniális! Kitűnő banda, és előadás 👍

Bruce, correct me if I'm wrong, but if I had to bet: this track opens up on the D Major chord
Jimmie Smith or Jimmy Smith - both great to listen to.
Is this fellow calling himself Jimmy Smith? He's not the original Jimmy- show biz is a racket-
This is Jimmie Smith, and the name of the album is "Jimmie Smith plays Jimmy Smith

You do realize that this isn't the jimmy smith you think, right!? It's another Jimmy Smith, playing og Jimmy Smith stuff 😊
THE MASTER‼️ they broke the mould when they made this guy ✌️🌻🇦🇺
Are ou Guys out of your mind????? This is not Jimmy Smith! The Master died the 4 / 8 / 2005 at 79! It's JIMMIE Smith!
Amen! This guy's good, but his style is much less funky than Jimmy Smith and, of course, he doesn't look at all like Jimmy Smith.
Chicken shak???
What a joy to watch and listen! Thanks for sharing.
Wow. Just great. Super groove from the drummer too.
Horn section, drums bass and lead guitarist sounds Amazing!
if I had to bet, correct me if I'm wrong, but I bet this track opens on the DM7 (D Major7th) chord

Only Jimmy Smith can play JImmy Smith
actually, on a similar video, he's joined by Jim Alfredson on the Hammond B3

Joking aside, this is a real deal! Jimmie can play just lake Jimmy. What a find!
very well played. And excellent quality sound too.

Jimmy Smith the incredible "Jimmy" no replacement for him, playing a Hammond B3 Organ like no bodies business.

Saw him live at Leo's Casino. Will never forget it.
My first B-3 idol

Keith Emerson was inspired to start playing the Hammond organ because of Jimmy Smith.Need I say more?
Awesome
Отличная музыкальная композиция, да еще, ТАК МАСТЕРСКИ ИСПОЛНЕННАЯ! Браво!!!
I don't think that's Jimmy Smith.
Yes his name is Jimmie Smith
@@jamesjohnson1984 Well he's a wonderful player, whoever it is. You're probably right. Just looked different to me.
Not “the Jimmy Smith”. Organist icon Smith swings much harder, better tastier grooves, and all while playing the bass line with his left hand.
Nice!
Great drummer...🙂
tres belle interpretation
very well......................................................

He is pretty good but.im a huge jimmy Smith listener since I was a young boy
That's not Jimmy Smith, they are playing one of his hits.
Its Jimmie Smith plays Jimmy Smith. Check out the album.

nice but aint nothin like jimmy smith, he played in a way less "scholar" or "clean way. Jimmy sounded rough, this guy sounds like a studio player...

Perhaps his son.
That's not Jimmy. There is one Jimmy. But I really did Dig your Command of the Hammond. Don't look down Brother. Don't look Back. Just Go, Go+Go. I just played your Cat to my 2 year old Daughter.

I think English is still in use- why call this Jimmie Smith when it's not? this player is fine- why not use his name?
This is Jimmie Smith, and the name of the album is "Jimmie Smith plays Jimmy Smith
Jimmy would not share his registrations. But, people figured it out by trial and error. Great clip, with horns. The Hammond sk2 in the background was not around when Jimmy was alive. The playing sounds okay, but Jimmy put on a lot of weight.
The real Jimmy rarely used the fast speed on the leslie. Mostly slow and off
Jimmy Smith died in 2005..😔
Thats not Jimmie Smith!
Hmmm, sure isn't.I love this tune but I want the real Jimmy.
Well-l-l, maybe this guy's name is Jimmy Smith but this is not THE REAL Jimmy Smith! His fingering is not nearly as crisp and same soul as the genuine article is simply not there. If you're going to do a cover, say so ... don't just hijack everything including the name.
beware...not Jimmy Smith, the accepted father of jazz organ.
