  • Since I have gotten good feedback from the Stockholm 1992 upload, I think uploading the next available show from The One Tour would be a smart move! While not in great quality, this Dortmund recording sounds slightly better compared to older copies and is nearly 100% complete. While this is an early tour show, it’s still worth a listen as the energy, enthusiasm, and crowd atmosphere are all at high levels and.things don’t let up for the 143 minute length of the recording. The band are in good form during this show with Charlie Morgan and Bob Birch being especially brilliant. Although still finding his voice and a bit inconsistent in places, Elton sounds fairly strong at this show with some gutsy and enthusiastic singing being in his repertoire. Now… time to go through everything!
“Don’t Let The Sun Go Down On Me” is an energetic start to the show with Elton’s high spirits being reflected in both his playing and singing. While some of the vocals sound harsh and not the most pristine-sounding, Elton still throws in softer singing along with good dynamic control. “I’m Still Standing” features varying degrees of intonation and tonal inconsistencies in the choruses when Elton goes for the higher notes. “I Guess That’s Why They Call It The Blues” contains great energy from both the band and Elton as they feed off of the crowd atmosphere and deliver a nice rendition of the classic hit single. “Tiny Dancer” has Elton pushing his voice to great effect with the punchy vocals highlighting his general enthusiasm and love for the live stage. While some of the phrasing sounds rushed and choppy in places early on, Elton’s cadences smooth out as the performance progresses. “Philadelphia Freedom” highlights Charlie’s impeccable drumming and Elton’s gutsy vocal performance as he nails the Bb4s on the “Philadelphia Freedom” lines during all three choruses and has a robust resonance to his singing. “Burn Down The Mission” shows off the prowess of both Charlie and Bob as they have amazing musical chemistry together and bring the performance to another level. Elton gives a good vocal effort overall despite some of the phrasing in the bridge section not being completely clean. “Simple Life” features an excellent band sound with the overproduction heard on the studio version being non-existent which allows the musical chemistry to truly shine. “The One” is a nice rendition with Charlie’s drumming being a highlight with the keyboard playing adding a nice layer to the performance. “I Don’t Wanna Go On With You Like That” doesn’t have the greatest vocals as Elton sounds rough in places with him having trouble reaching some of the higher notes, but the solo is solid along with the band providing a strong musical foundation. The first part of “Mona Lisas And Mad Hatters” sounds nice with Elton providing a strong vocal. The second part highlights Bob’s superb bass work and Elton’s overdriven vocals. Michael Jackson’s “Billie Jean” is also referenced during the instrumental section courtesy of Davey Johnstone. “Sorry Seems To Be The Hardest Word” is a solid performance with Elton’s tone sounding pretty nice. Concluding this section, “Daniel” has some really nice moments that range from Elton’s smooth mid-ranged gliding, to the rock-solid band that shines even on a recording like this!
“Blue Avenue” surpasses the record version with the musical chemistry and Elton’s vocals both being on form. “The Last Song” is stronger than the previously available performance from Stockholm as Elton’s vocal precision is much better throughout along with his confidence being at a higher level. “Love Lies Bleeding” features Elton pushing his voice to its limit as he goes for the key notes during the main bulk of the songs and the band sounds amazing with the atmosphere elevating the performance to a higher level. “Sad Songs (Say So Much)” contains oversinging, thrashing, and vocal gymnastics during the Lung Olympics introduction. The main song is performed with an edge as the faster tempo highlights the lively atmosphere on stage. Elton’s vocals during the performance are full of excessive overdrive and distortion that is reminiscent of versions from the European leg of the Reg Strikes Back Tour. “Rocket Man” has Elton going back to a more natural vocal delivery and his falsetto during the improvisation section sounds really nice. “The Show Must Go On” has a flubbed line early on and Davey’s solo isn’t the greatest, but is otherwise a respectable version of the song. “Saturday Night’s Alright For Fighting” is full of harsh vocal phrasing that sounds like.a mix of performances from 1988 and upcoming performances from the Made In England Tour. “Sacrifice” is very strong with Elton embellishing nicely in the last chorus. “Bennie And The Jets” is full of overdrive and some extremely creative piano playing throughout. Lastly, “Candle In The Wind” is slightly coarse in spots with a couple of piano flubs, but is a reasonably good performance overall.
    ENJOY!!!

Absolutely fantastic version, 2nd best band version of the 90s for me, up there with The first Atlantic city night in 90 and Winston Salem 97

It's one of those highly energetic versions where we thankfully have it recorded. The vocals are very strong and the band are in the pocket!

Elton was probably still setting into the tour so he was using up the previous styles
