Petroleum is the main ingredient of Vaseline so as Steve says, don't use it. You may be more familiar with other petroleum byproducts, such as kerosene and gasoline - hence his mention of a fire hazard if used. Once a year, or at most every two years, vacuum out where the filter is (sometimes a small panel is removable from the inside part of the filter housing - don't drop the screws down there!) , pull the dryer away from the wall and vacuum under it as best you can, and put the vacuum hose (shop vac works really well) as far up and into the exhaust pipe as possible...then do it again from the other end outside the home.
5:25, look at the printing on the dryer fan housing in the lower left quadrant. It says "THIS SIDE OUT" and it's written inside out. Mine is the same way. WTF is that? Let me know what that means....please.
