Fey are my favorite things in D&D, I’m always excited when you two make fey content!
Thank you so much!
Agreed, sadly they are criminally underused in most campaigns
Web dm always knows how to inspire me how to make monsters way more then just a stat sheet! Thank you!
Thank you so much!
After the reveal of Boo the space hamster and possible plane book coming late next year/early 2023, anything planes related gets me so pumped!!!
Same! We're very excited. Will be discussing some of the announcements next week!
"Go for the eyes Boo! Go for the eyes!"
How did you find Boo? There is ever so much Minsc to search...
*miniature giant
Shame we're getting a new edition so soon
In my last campaign I had a group of Korred hanging out with Azer in the Plane of Magma. I love the wide variety of shenanigans Fey can get up to.
that intro was amazing
we certainly had fun with it!
Intro was pure gold, Pruitt. Be proud of yourself
21:54 Jim's face in response to Pruitt's pun 😂😂. All these years and he can still catch Jim off guard with the pun.
Recap is in a genre that I love of anti-murderhobo monsters. At high level, Inevitable might come at you for a genocide but if you just murder someone in the road, the mushrooms that pop off want to dip their caps in your blood. That's a great deterrent
A Red Cap that is seeking out a party member who died but was resurrected and it wants more blood. Interesting idea
OMG that intro. It has me so emotionally conflicted.
Okay so first, that intro was top tier, and two absolutely love this. My players are going to be subjected to some annoying little buggers very soon. I can even see it being dangerous if there's something messing with their supplies in a situation where the survival matters, and they don't have someone capable of magicing up some grub.
Hands down the best intro yet
Fave five foes for fun! Nice
That intro was beautiful.
I think one overlooked thing about the quickling is its +8 to Sleight of Hand and Stealth. You could easily use it to rush past a player character, potentially completely undetected, and snatch something off their person like a coin pouch, magic dagger, component pouch or focus, and many other things. Or maybe just tie their shoe laces together.
And I'll continue to reiterate that I love your monster shows, hoping that you continue to make more!
I think a way to make Fey monsters stand out is there is always a way for the combat encounter to be resolved with social roleplay. The Fey could eat you, but it would rather you do something for it.
I've always loved quicklings and redcaps. Very fun.
I loved running a red cap in my games, but I made them a crazy fast alteration specialist, so they were warping surroundings and perception with a base 180 move speed because this was The Red Cap from the Faewild that lives in a Djinn's forest. Was a lot of fun for my players. 😁
In my Curse of Strahd game I placed red caps. They are so damn sinister! Good stuff.
RE: Red cap's iron boots
There's a long tradition in european folklore that supernatural creatures are weak to iron. At first blush I'd guess that this is being referenced here.
You are correct sir! Red Cap boots are made from cold iron, which all? faerie are allergic to and causes pain. This also possibly contributes to their aggression
I love the redcaps, I used two in a low level encounter in a swamp as my two players wandered their way out of a dungeon that had swept them down river. They were menacing and their slow speed chase through the swamp was a lot of laughs.
Late in the campaign, I had the guys go happen upon the same two redcaps at a higher level and just decimate them.
Best intro yet. And yes you should look embarrassed 😂😂
I had redcaps working for a hag coven. They were the Hags' knights riding around on undead manticore.
Brilliant intro guys! lol
I love Redcaps. In fact, I made a Redcap build in Dark Souls 3. He's fun.
gael is just a red cap that grew up
Greatest thumbnail of all time.
Nice, I was waiting for some monster talk for a while! Keep up the good work boys, love your videos!!!!
We've got more monsters on the way!
I threw 3 buffed quicklings against my party recently in an area off thick brush. So, they were basically invisible. It took several rounds just to get the one hit on each of them needed to end the fight.
The name of that quickling from the Drizzt books is Tefanis.
Hear me out.
Boggle in a construction site. All of those open spaces in the frames
Take my like purely based off the intro alone.
I homebrewed a fey that believed it was immortsl so it was. It only took damage after the party can convince the creature it can die contested (persuasion vs insight)
A good video with an intro that was pure gold.
Thanks for the video guys, as always full of great insight. I might suggest though when talking about monsters to list their name somewhere on screen and/or a picture of them somewhere so the people watching your video won't need to google them while the video is going to really understand what you are talking about.
I still enjoy listening to you guys even though the 5E specific information doesn't really do much for my purposes these days. Thanks for the years of great content and inspiration.
You've got a phenomenal chemistry. I enjoyed the times you had Emma and Grant on. And Travis, too.
I decided to make the red cap in world a singular being. I have since inflicted it upon the group twice. Y'all have given me so many new ideas for Fey stuff. Thank you!
Best intro yet.
Surely an over sized sickle is a Scythe? Like a little tiny, stomping, mushroom headed grim reaper…?
This is what I was thinking. The damage of the Wicked Sickle is 9 (average), if he was wielding a one of the heavy weapons his damage would on average range from 8-11. So it doesn't seem that far off.
In my world Quicklings are mail carriers, but after watching this, I think a Mail Fraud side quest needs to be introduced 🤣🤣🤣
Amazing
The 3rd edition book looks like the Enchirideon from Adventure Time
Best intro so far
Something about an angry mushroom man with iron feet and a penchant for kicking tickles me the right way
Our DM used quicklings once. It was a game where the party went and fought through a small dungeon every session, and that one was fey themed. We were like level 3 so he put 2 quicklings as an encounter thinking they would be glass cannons and a quick fight. They nearly wiped us out.
If you can get close enough... Druid could cast spike growth to shut down a quickling
The fey are my FAVORITE class of creatures! I tend to go full fey folklore on my payers whenever I run them in my sessions!
My dudes!!!🐸
Great stuff lovd the videos
Played several sessions with Meenlocks adapted to an aquatic environment by a Sea Hag. Didn’t expect them to be as rough as they turned out. Players had to work really hard to take them out.
"Monsters of Feyland" and "Monsters of the Old World" are great sources for this.
Candlekeep Mysteries has a great one shot using Meenlocks. It's where I first learned and encountered them and they are definitely scary if done well (my PCs nope'd out of the adventure instead of going into the nest to clear out the infestation).
My party should have done that ourselves, one session later we're down 2 player characters and 2 sidekicks lol
not classified as a fey i dont think but Nilbogs very much fit into the spirit of trick fey monsters.
A monster that you need a charisma save everytime you attempt to harm it and you have to praise it if you fail is unbelievably funny and infuriating
Red Caps are "slow" because they are small. Most small creatures, used to at least, have less movement than most medium or larger creatures.
Pixies. Always pixies the little blighters.
I see a pattern of creepy and tricky small monster men in this list... XD
These rock!
Magical Korred Dreadlocks!
Thanks.
If everyone is talking about fay for Witchlight does that mean that we can get people talking about awkward school storied for strixhaven.
In the game I'm playing in, redcaps break the fourth wall and can see people's character sheets. I don't remember why, but it didn't go much further than a one-off joke.
There's a few choice fey in Pathfinder that could be pretty easily converted to 5e:
I personally love Gremlins, there's a few varieties of these things, they make a good low-level alternative to goblins if you want more magical low-level gits for your players to smack. They all have resistance to weapons not made of Cold Iron but have very low hp to compensate. As for specifics:
-Jinkin - your basic gremlin. CR 1, Tiny, 6hp. Short Sword and Bite but all its damage comes from a 1d6 sneak attack. Has at-will Prestidigitation and 1/hour Dimension Door (self only). Over an hour, a group of 6 of them can Bestow Curse on a helpless target or make a magic item not work 20% of the time. They can do a lot to mess with a party.
-Pugwampi - it's an ugly bipedal dog that everyone hates. CR 1/2, Tiny, 6hp. Dagger and Shortbow but neither do any damage. At-will Prestidigitation and Speak with Animals. 1/day Shatter (Pathfinder Shatter just breaks a single wielded item or brittle items in an AoE, no damage to creatures). It's big gimmick is Unluck Aura, which is a 20ft. radius of disadvantage on every roll, animals, mindless creatures, gremlins and gnolls are immune to this as is anyone with any sort of luck-boost. Stick this guy in a pack of gnolls or gremlins to give the players a bad time. I had one of these bluff it's way into becoming a PC's familiar.
-Fuath - the water gremlin. CR 1, Tiny, 7hp. Vulnerable to fire and damaged by sunlight (if not in water). 2 Lobster Claws that deal no damage. At-will Create Water and Prestidigitation, 1/day Sleep. Can surround someone in water for 1d4 minutes, entangling them and forcing them to hold their breath or drown.
-Hanniver - not much to say about this one. It flies, robs you and when it does it also rearranges your stuff so it takes longer to pull it out of your bag.
-Hobkins - the scary one. CR 1/2, Small, 9hp. 2 Claws that do minor damage. Levitates. At-will Dancing Lights, Ghost Sound and Silent Image. Good at Intimidate. Has Displacer-Beast-style displacement, meaning ranged attacks against it have a 75% miss chance. Attacks that miss it are redirected to another target in range with improved critical range (as Champion Fighter feature), it likes using this to make people smash their stuff.
-Vexgit - the trap one. CR 1, Tiny, 8hp. Warhammer and Bite that do very minor damage. At-will Prestidigitation, 1/hour Rusting Grasp and Snare. Can disable devices (disarm traps, pick locks, etc.) very quickly, especially if working together. Is good at making traps. So these roll into town and turn everything mechanical into a trap overnight.
-Nuglub - the only one that actually deals damage. CR 2, Small, 19hp. Bite (with grab) and 2 Claws (with trip) that deal minor damage. At-will Prestidigitation, 1/hour Heat Metal(!), Shocking Grasp(!), Snare. Good at tripping people. This one actually just wants to kill you, loves senseless violence.
Also shout-out to the Lurker In Light. Small evil faerie-thing that's naturally invisible in bright light and concealed in dim light. Has a few light-based spells, can teleport between bright areas 1/day and can sacrifice humanoids to open portals to the Feywild or Elemental Planes.
Redcaps being slow has a simple explanation: they skipped leg day.
My favorite creature type is Fey and my favorite monsters are pixies and hags. In my campaign I rule pixies a little different than the standard and sort of combine them with sprites. I just love little tricksy spirits.
That meany sounds like it is perfect for the prison Im build run by a Red Cap
Korred slave + adamantine knife.
I was a Redcap in a previous life.
Aww yeah. More Fey Munsters.
...
*Looks back at the Fae race I made that can free cast command on any creature that willing gives it their name
I think in some folk lore iron messes with fey and their powers so maybe that is why redcaps are hindered by iron boots
A Quickling Monk is pretty much just the Flash
Check out Escape from Meenlock Prison adventure from Dungeon Mag 146 for a real creepy experience with those bastards. That older edition version can reduce your wisdom score to make preying easier, might have to keep that ability for 5e >:)
I'm pretty sure that either I'm a fey creature, or one of my parents was playing a bard
I assume redcaps move slowly because they're wearing Iron and fairies hate iron
50ft rat tail, let me just add that to my character sheet real quick..
Doesn't Ironbound Pursuit add 25 feet to the Redcaps movement speed? The ability itself gives them their move speed of movement - on top of their normal movement speed - is my interpretation.
For the algorithm!
1 Blink Dog
2 Blink Cat
3 Blink Bunny
4 Blink Hamster
5 Blink Goldfish
How adorable would a blink bunny be, for real
@@WebDM I started with the joke of a Blink Goldfish... But as I was typing it out I was like okay dog, cat, bunny... Wait thats actually an amazing idea. :) I'll use it in my campaign for sure. Everyone ahould have a blink bunny in their game.
🌈👍
