  • In this episode we look back at the 3-1 win over Southampton on Saturday.
    We discuss the decision to start Raheem Sterling and Gabriel Jesus, and how much of an impact that had on a first half which Arsenal dominated but without enough cutting edge. We chat about the goal we conceded and the emphatic response from the team in the shape of Kai Havertz's equaliser, Gabriel Martinelli getting on the scoresheet again, the continued brilliance of Bukayo Saka, and how Mikel Arteta might reflect on these last two games as we go into an Interlull. There are questions about Gabriel Jesus, some defensive instability, Riccardo Calafiori, Declan Rice, and lots more.

    I’ve listened to everything I could find about Arsenal on YT now and your podcast is probably the most balanced, least opinionated and most objective of them all and therefore my favourite. I guess it’s because you both really know football and understand the nuances of the game.
    Great job, guys. Love your talks about Arsenal.

    With Jesus, the issue isn't end product, soo much as everything else. He just seems to be playing the game out of the team structure. His decision making is just soo bad right now, it takes away from the team. Just do the simple things and let the game flow.

      @@Arseblogfair enough. It's nice having it on my morning commute, but I'm sad we didn't get a small reaction to Sundays games. We could have had a #angeout and a #tenhagout double act.

    When Oodegard returns, Saka's assists numbers will level out and Saka'll probably score more goals. And with the number of games and need to manage minutes, I doubt he'll be on the pitch long enough to get there. But he'll get really close. 15 assists and 17 to 20 league goals would be something special too though. Brilliant player

    Thank you Andrew and I'm sorry to hear about Archer's passing.
    On a reflection of the last few games now we have an interlull - my biggest takeaway is how well we've coped without our best player. When Martin Odegaard comes back I hope he doesn't take long to get up to steam

    Definitely Havertz best goal. Rice -Havertz axis has shifted 180. Who looks worth the money this season 🤔

    Califiori been basically the same as Zinchenko so far. Good going forward, suspect defensively

      I’m glad somebody has pointed this out. Zinny’s defensive frailties get spoken about so much, but his defensive numbers overall aren’t actually that bad. If Zinny gets skinned twice in one game like Cala did, and it also happened the game before, no way people are heaping praise on him.

    Best Saka song out there 🎉🎉😂. Loved seeing Martinelli get a goal. Havertz is really off the mark. His finishing has improved drastically from last year and you can tell he has benefited from the support of the fans after settling in. My only worry is that it seems that Jesus and Sterling are too similar in their style of play, which involves a lot of head down dribbling and looking for fouls rather than staying strong on the ball. Having two players that fall over so easily kills a lot of our forward momentum, especially if the ref is not in the mood to reward their diving. The bad part is that they often lose the ball in the middle of the park which leaves us open to a counter. I'll be excited for when we move on from Jesus, Partey, Zinchenko and don't buy Sterling and replace them with players who are more in tune with our style of physical play like the additions of Mereno, Califiori, Havertz, Rice, Timber. That is the right direction in my opinion and the final pieces to the puzzle. Strength and grit along with the skill.

    If Havertz plays hand brakes off. Driving at defensive lines with power and responsibility, then he has no ceiling really. He just often looks like he defers to the Oodegards and Sakas. Which is understandable. But he needs to embrace the role and responsibility of scoring goals and impacting games.

    • @duta6388
      @duta6388 2 дні тому +3

      I think part of it is his selflessness which makes his overall game much better imho. If he can consistently have between 20-30 direct goal involvements a year while Arsenal still have our mids regularly scoring than we’re laughing.
