Great work documenting our adventure. I had a blast out there with you guys. We should definitely plan to do it again next year if you're up for it.
Adam! You are the best! We had a blast and Ben has been studying for his technician license!
We're down for more trips!
I look forward to the next adventure you guys go on.
Josh, is Ben still a Cub or is he in WEBLOS yet. So cool to hear he is working on his Tech
He's a Weeb now.@@jbloodwo
This was too fun to watch. Is nice mixing stuff sometimes. Camping, hiking, fishing, ham radio... it can't get better than this 😁😁. Loved it. Ben nailed the fishing part hehehe. Good job Ben. You guys with the food made me hungry so I go cook something now 😅😅. 73, YO6DXE.
That was delightful! My dream outing...ham radio and fly fishing. It was especially nice to see Ben catch trout on the fly rod. Nice job Ben. I'm an ole guy - it makes me smile when I see a young person land fish on a fly rod!
It's surprising how relaxing it can be watching others enjoy camping and fishing in the mountains.
Thanks for the wonderful take me along too🦓 video. Brilliant to take along kids to introduce the wonders of nature and technology comforts. Looking forward to more.
Thank you for sharing! What a beautiful place to camp. Congrats to your son for catching the first trout.
Hi! Your videos have motivated me to get my license and I just received my HAREC certificate. Waiting for my callsign now. Thanks for the videos!
Looks like a great time camping and fishing these are things he will remember.
That was Awesome! Thanks for taking us along.
73,
Mark - K5YAC
OMG, thanks for the video. Moved from California 37 years ago. Seeing the beauty. =)
Sounds like you had a good time. An higher amount of laughter from you. =D
WOW, virtual camping Super Cool. I want a list of y'alls equipment , please =)
Brother, I am stoked (an a tiny bit jealous) that you are doing this with your son. Way to Dad!
Great videography, beautiful scenery! There’s also nothing cooler and more wholesome than a dad going on a hiking adventure with his son! Throwing in some fishing and ham radio is just an added bonus!!
What a beautiful country, thanks for sharing!
a full like 5 mins of cooking and eating! camp food is the best food ive had in my life!
Right on. Glad to see the full trip. Thanks for the content. Vloging the whole thing while still having fun is awesome. Good on Ben for going the distance with you guys. 🤙🏽
Ben did great all weekend! 👍
@HamRadioCrashCourse that kid is a champ. I just watched the rest of the video. He's a natural fisherman, too. Right on. 🤙🏽
Love the long format! Great adventure and what a beautiful spot!!!
We need to be able to put extra likes on this one. Wonderful video, great spot. Love the father-son thing, it reminds me of back in the day.
I wish you could. These types of videos, any of my traveling videos, get significantly less views.
Great video Josh, & @K6ARK - combined lots of my favourite outdoor activities.
We all remember out first fish 😎
Reminds me of trips with my dad. Hopefully soon I can do that with my son.
Cool set up! I camp in a Durston X-Mid and looks very similar to yours with the vestibule. Beautiful spot!
Hey Josh, just wanted to put in a good word for Gregory packs when you go to replace yours. They're not as light as the Hyperlite line, but an extra pound or so of padding is one pound I will never regret carrying.
Also, on the trekking pole tip @ 43:00, the other reason to go up through the bottom is if you trip, you can let go of the poles amd they will fall below your hands. If you go through of the loops and take a fall, the straps will keep the poles in front of your hands and stop you from being able to catch yourself. Probably applies more with ski poles but a broken thumb is still a broken thumb.
Ben is a champ.
Great video with amazing views. Awesome to got to share with time with your son as well.
Wonderful adventure and priceless time together. Thank you for sharing. Take care and 73.
Awesome family/friend video. This is what life is all about. Adam seems to be a very humble person and his skills are invaluable. Thank you. One question. That Smiley, is that the 1/2 wave 2 meter antenna from their site?
Enjoyed the adventure. I’m sure Ben loved it.
I haven't been up to that region in decades. My dad and uncle used to fish up and down the Sierra Nevadas (June was their favorite), and my dad's best friend lived in Bishop for many a year. It's so nice to actually see water up there again. I even have all my dad's old fly fishing gear he used during those trips.
Fun video, looks like you guys had a great time. Makes me excited for when my boys are big enough to get in to the backcountry a bit easier. Now when is Adam taking you up a technical summit for SOTA?
Awesome video. A group of us signed up for free fly casting and fly tying lessons here in STL on Saturday mornings. They start in a few weeks and can't wait to learn more...
It's a great way to fish!
I, too, use burritos as insulation in my sleeping bag. I am regularly cold, but never hungry.
Amazing trip! Thanks for bringing us along!
Every scene in this video is amazing! But I am most amazed that you found a sardine can key! I haven't seen one of those in decades.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Also, looks cool to have that special mic, 😜😉. I patiently await the availability. 30:17 Honestly, "Mr. Adam" can take his time. I need to actually make some money in between purchases, so the longer I have to wait, the less of a blow to my wallet. The price is definitely reasonable.
That looked like a fantastic trip. Thanks for the video.
What a beautiful location and those little Brookies, wow.
Love the video! Your son was a real trooper. I was a little worried for you getting out of breath blowing up those air mattresses. That knee board with the radio attached, pure genius right there, I also loved the tiny mic! Was that 3d printed? My hubby and I both got a kick out of Ben spinning the hiking pole around like Donatello with a bo staff in the background while you were figuring out how to use the wrist strap haha.
Hopefully we can make a POTA contact at some point, I think I only have you in my log once from FT8. I don't often make contact with stations from Cali though. Keep bringing us great videos and I'll keep watching!

I made a video on the mic before the trip, its on my channel and Adam K6ARK makes it too as a kit! :D
Pack the food in order you need it, with snacks stashed on top. No digging then! Mountain House is my go to! Even for a super quick meal at home! WAY better than Ready Wise salt packets!
That sounds good in practice and I tried that, then we end up hungry for something else :D
Love it Josh! Ben is great and Adam is as well!
You're such a nice Dad,. Can I be your kid too? 😂😂
I am a Ham that has taken a 2m handheld to camp but I have never been Hamping with the exclusive goal of using a radio while there.
Josh, what antenna setup did you deploy for the SSB contacts? Great radio operation!
Dang! Watching from 100 degree South Texas and missing the mountains.
We got see your camping gear...did I miss the POTA gear? Did you take ant solar panels? I can only assume Adams antenna since you were with him..I am asking since you did a video a few years ago saying the light saver max was your favorite and I am wondering if that still holds true?
Just the kx2 since we were hiking.
Love your videos like this!
Now that is star quality, direct eye contact with the camera! 37:09
How is it going?, super, this is breathtaking vlog. ))
YES! More adventure videos! It's like watching nutnfancy with a radio. :)
Lol thanks, these videos are not very popular though.
That is awesome, I’m so jealous!!
Hey Josh, I hope you don’t have to repeat yourself but do you have a link to share for the 1/2 wave ht antenna? I need one of those in my life. Ha! Enjoyed the video. 👊😎
It's a Smiley 2 meter 1/2 wave antenna. Also check out the MFJ "Long Ranger"
Thanks!
You bet!
That looks like a fun camping trip, how are there mosquitos at that altitude?
Open water.
Cool video! Awesome views!
That new "TA" at Coso Junction is pretty sweet, eh?
What's the knee board you are using? Great video as always.
www.tufteln.net/
3:00 "No firearms" in the mountains? Typical California stuff. When a wild animal attacks just call CQ eh lol
Picture perfect location.... apart from the skeeters!😂👍
It was wonderful. Head nets made it simple.
What's a POTA besides Paris on the Air?!! Also, how do you keep track of everyone who contacted you?
Awesome video Josh!
Josh really enjoyed this video! de Robert Burton KD4YDC
Thank you!
That lake must be a well-kept secret. Hope you in a little cw time. 73 de n0km
Fun video!
❤❤❤
If you had to guess, how much would you say your entire pack weighed?
This is a great video, longer form! A masterpiece. I can tell you put a lot of work. De K1MAZ
@20:00 How many times can I hit "Like"!!! 73's, N2GX
Josh, how do I connect my Heil BM-17 to the IC-705. An adapter? Please help.
Check out the Heil website, they have adpaters.
Wow. Beutiful
Great video, Josh, while i know the video had parts edited, You must have done something right parenting, Ben seems well behaved and into everything you guys are doing.
The whole video looks like a postcard! Very jealous of your geography.
@k6ark are fou fishing barbless?
We all were.
First hike is with Adam the Mt Goat lol.
I hope future trips without Adam are not a let-down! :D
@@HamRadioCrashCourse I bet they will be the memories of a life time. You're a good Dad.
Thank you!
How many mile you get out of electric truck per charge?
300 miles give or take based on climbing, hauling or towing.
Do you have the extended battery in the Ford?
Yep
@@HamRadioCrashCourse cool, have you don't a video on it yet? Would be interested in how it's working out for you
Yep, I have @@mrbodo69
@@HamRadioCrashCourse dang it! Off to the searching thingy I go
Why does this make me want to see a collaboration between @HamRadioCrashCourse and @OutdoorBoys ?
Mmm… fish.
Some of those contacts from NM were excited! ❤
Hope to do this in the future, soon! KF0QNM
That was a very nice outing. I'm glad my propagation shopping helped your activation. De W4POT
