Bubbie the rooster has a chicken tractor and a new lease on life!

Poor Bubbie has suffered a life changing defeat at the hands of our silkie rooster, Mr Feisty. I thought they could work it out because the silkie roo came in only a couple months old. But once Mr Feisty felt strong enough he challenged Bubbie and won! I thought Bubbie would either get killed or settle in his new role but alas he was terrified to move out of the nesting boxes and was not able to feed. So we separated them. Bubbie has faithfully worked our hens for over five years and he is our favorite hen’s son who has passed. I nursed him from losing an eye a few years ago. So instead of harvesting him we came up with a new plan. Bubbie now has his own chicken tractor! We will rotate the hens so they get a wellness check and extra nutrition. And we get weed and pest control as well as fertilizer in the front food forest. It is a win for Bubbie, a win for the hens and a win for the plants! Forever Foods Farm. March 13, 2024.

His mamma was a Brahma and his daddy was a Brahma x wellsummer cross. I’ve always loved his demeanor. Mr Feisty had to be put in his place a few times and I still don’t trust him 100% but he is a better rooster for the flock.
