Now that you've reacted to this, watch it again just for yourself. That Freddie could manage to sing those words, so passionately, knowing he was dying is really a testament to his love of music and all his fans. He was so brave, and determined to record as much music as they possibly could before he left us. Because he loved us 🌹

By now, Brian not only knew Freddie was not going to be around much longer, he also knew the band would also be gone, so he was feeling all of that as well as reflecting on all that had happened over the last 15 or so years while the band was together. I think that Brian understood that music was part of him and could never be over so one way or another he would have to keep going, He wrote this song, not really knowing that it would be a Queen song, but Freddie kept coming into the studio begging for lines to sing and saying once he was no longer they could do whatever they wanted with them. This was one of Brian's songs but he worried that the high notes and the need for powerful points in the song might be too much for Freddie in his weakened state, but Freddie nailed it, just like that. What a brave Trooper he was.

The reason the video is just clips of the band and clips taken from other videos is because Freddie illness was getting worse and he wasn’t able to get around. The Days of Our Lives was the last video he was in and he could barely stand up. Both songs were released in 1991 and Freddie died in November 1991. The Show Must Go On has a whole different meaning. He just wanted to sing and get as much recorded as he could because he didn’t have much time left.
The last song he worked on was called Mother Love and Brian would write the lyrics and Freddie would sing them 3 times and then Brian would hand him more lyrics. He knew he was dying and he would come to the studio when he could. He told the rest of the band to do what they wanted with it, but just not to make him boring. Brian handed him the last line of lyrics to sing at the end of one day and Freddie was tired and said he’d come back and finish it. But he never made it back into the studio and Brian had to sing the final verse

Brian was concerned that Freddie would have difficulty hitting the high notes due to his failing health. Freddie's response was, "Fk it, darling, I'll do it.", downed a shot of vodka and definitely did it!

Not so much high notesbut doing it in head voice without cracking
Brian could only do it in falsetto

This video is a compilation of a bunch of their old music videos and concert footage. At this point Freddie was too sick to do a music video 😢. He is and always will be the greatest frontman of all time ❤❤. And Brian wrote this song with Freddie in mind, knowing he was struggling with the fact that he knew he was near death

"The Show Must Go On" is a song by British rock band Queen, featured as the twelfth and final track on their 1991 album, Innuendo. It is credited to Queen, but written mainly by Brian May. The song chronicles the effort of frontman Freddie Mercury continuing to perform despite approaching the end of his life, although his diagnosis with HIV/AIDS had not yet been made public in spite of ongoing media speculation claiming that he was seriously ill. When the band recorded the song in 1990, Mercury's condition had deteriorated to the point that May had concerns as to whether he was physically capable of singing it. May recalls; "I said, 'Fred, I don't know if this is going to be possible to sing.' And he went, 'I'll fucking do it, darling'-vodka down-and went in and killed it, completely lacerated that vocal". The power ballad was released as a single in the United Kingdom on 14 October 1991 in promotion for the Greatest Hits II album, just six weeks before Mercury died. Following Mercury's death on 24 November 1991, the song re-entered the British charts and spent as many weeks in the top 75 (five) as it did upon its original release, initially reaching a peak of 16. A live version with Elton John on vocals appeared on Queen's Greatest Hits III album. The song was first played live on 20 April 1992, during The Freddie Mercury Tribute Concert, performed by the three remaining members of Queen, with Elton John singing lead vocals and Black Sabbath guitarist Tony Iommi playing rhythm guitar. It has since been played live by Queen + Paul Rodgers and Queen + Adam Lambert with Rodgers citing one of the performances as the best of his career. Since its release, the song has appeared on television, film (including an operatic version in Moulin Rouge!), and has been covered by a number of artists. In 2014, CBC's Hockey Night in Canada used the song in their closing montage after the Los Angeles Kings won the Stanley Cup, in the final CBC NHL game before Rogers Sportsnet took over. After listening to John Deacon and Roger Taylor playing the chord sequence that later on would be the basis for almost the entire song, Brian May sat down with Freddie Mercury and the two of them decided the theme of the song and wrote some lyrics. May wrote down the rest of the words as well as the melody, and added a bridge with a chord sequence inspired by Pachelbel's Canon. May was convinced the song's title was too predictable and offered to change it, but Mercury refused. Demo versions featured May singing, having to sing some parts in falsetto because they were too high. When May presented the final demo to Mercury, he had doubts that Mercury would be physically capable of singing the song's highly demanding vocal line, due to the extent of his illness at the time. To May's surprise, when the time came to record the vocals, Mercury consumed a measure of vodka and said "I'll fucking do it, darling!" then proceeded to perform the vocal line. May sang most of the backing vocals (including the last line) and played Korg M1 synthesiser as well as guitar. Producer David Richards suggested the key-shift in the second verse. The lyrics are full of allusions, metaphors and other figures of speech, making it somewhat difficult to understand. Thinly disguised tragedy ahead is announced. In the end, the text refers to the determination, the furious desire to live ("I have to find the will to carry on with the show") in spite of vanishing strength ("inside my heart is breaking, my make-up may be flaking"). From the perspective of harmony, the song begins in B minor; then there is a modulation to C♯ minor as if the song implied a hope (an increase of tone); but eventually it falls back to B minor. With Mercury's condition having deteriorated significantly due to complications with HIV/AIDS, no new footage of the lead singer was shot. The music video instead consisted of a montage of clips spanning Queen's music videos from 1981 to 1991, as a precursor to the imminent release of the band's Greatest Hits II album spanning that period. Footage from promo videos from the 1980s are shown in the montage, apart from "Under Pressure" and "Hammer to Fall", including "I Want to Break Free", "Friends Will Be Friends", "I'm Going Slightly Mad", "Breakthru", "Radio Ga Ga", "The Miracle", "The Invisible Man", "Headlong", "Calling All Girls", "Body Language", "Innuendo", "Back Chat", "Who Wants to Live Forever", "Scandal", "Princes of the Universe" and "One Vision". This, along with the manner of the song's lyrics, continued to fuel long-running media reports that Mercury was seriously ill, although it was still officially denied that anything was seriously wrong. The following month, Mercury finally announced that he was suffering from AIDS, and he died barely 24 hours after this announcement. The music video was compiled and edited by Austrian director team DoRo, consisting of Rudi Dolezal and Hannes Rossacher.

I love this ding. I se you’ve gotten plenty of background. It was on the Innuendo album released in 2/1991 and the last album Freddie Mercury was alive to see released. RIP Freddie, you’ll be loved and listened to time immemorial. We miss you so much!! 🕯🕯🕯

This was from the last album that Freddie did with Queen. Now how about try something from the first album! Liar live at the Rainbow is a different look from the band and a different sound for sure. They were much heavier in the 70's than the 80's then in the 90's Freddie's voice got more intense and had more power. Thanks for the reactions! Much appreciated.

Thanks for this.. what a great song... see the comment by Sherry... Brian wrote it, with Freddie's input.. and was worried he was too sick to hit those notes.. but Freddie just said "I'll do it, darling".. downed a couple of shots of vodka.. and f*cking did it.. as Brian said "just lacerated those vocals"... there is no live performance, but the video is a compilation of past ... fairly well done, IMHO.. appreciate your reaction!

You should watch the 1986 movie "Highlander," the entire soundtrack is pretty much Queen, watch just for the music, though the movie is pretty good... it's a kind of magic!

One has to watch this after watching EVERYTHING ELSE by Queen. It incorporates all the past Queen videos because this was made AT THE END. So poignant. Freddie was dying at this point. So much more than just a song. It's a story of a life. You are reacting to a song. You should be reacting to a llfe. Unauthentic/
