After frustratingly busting a wrench extension, cracking a cheapo socket and losing my only good testicle to loosen a stuck bolt from me Toro Timemaster dual blade 30" lawnmower, my wife showed me your video. I doused the bolt with that PB Blaster and VIOLA!!! It WORKED Amazingly. Thank you for the video advice!!!
I hit a fairly good size stone with my John Deere riding mower and it stopped immediatley. I lifted it up and learned that one of the blades was jammed tight and wouldn't budge. I came inside and found your video and followed your steps and got it unjammed. Thankfully no damage to the mower. Your video was perfect!!
@@OfficialxSimple At that point you are at torch next. It will break with a torch, but it might have to get VERY hot. I have had to use MAP Gas before to break an axle off a car.
Great video, I haven't had that type of trouble breaking the bolts loose. I knew when I bought my zero turn (ZT); I knew I was going to have trouble breaking those bolts loose. So I bought a Ryobi 1/2-in impact gun brushless game changer. I also dip the bolts in a little oil to keep from rusting before I put them back in. Thanks
Going to try PB Blaster today. Will come back and sub if it works. Mower blades are so tight that you might be able to lift the 48" zero turn trying to loosen them, but they don't look rusty or corroded at all. They are still shiny.
Thanks for the tip/recommendation on PB Blaster. I needed to change all three blades on my Club Cadet riding mower and could not get the blades off to save my life. It took two applications with time to set/soak in between but after the 2nd application, the nuts spun with next to no effort. Thank you for the tip. A $5 can from WalMart saved me a ton more later not to mention not having to load the mower and take it to a local repair shop.
I used the PB Blaster but it still didnt come off. I used so much force my deck shifted way off center. I share your frustration! I went to the service shop and spoke with them and they said the way to do it is use a Pneumatic impact gun....I have an air compressor but not the gun... so now I am thinking I need to buy the gun....Now I also have to take the deck off and try to fix the hardware that may have bend or broken... fun!
Nice video thanks, Why is it that the nut keeps spinning with the axel even when I have the blade locked in a stationary position, it’s an electric mower
Spend last 2 days working on Cub Cadet XT1 blades off. Tried PB first thing, repeated over and over. 1/2 impact gun (probably not enough pressure). Used propane torch, extension bar-nothing worked. Except for my angle grinder. Now they're both off. Ridiculous blades are put on that hard.
Spraying penetrating lube on a potentially stuck bolt the night before you take on the job helps a lot too. I like NAPA and WD-40 brands, PB Blaster is fine too. I have a big corded electric impact gun I bought for two jobs. It really takes the stress out of a stubborn bolt.
I’ve used a break over bar with a 3 ft cheater bar and heated the bolt with a torch and it still won’t budge. I’ve used a battery and air impact and it won’t move. I’m going to replace the whole spindle.
Great video. I have the same problem. I tried Liquid Wrench and heat. Had a 3 foot pipe but not as long as yours. Just took it to a tractor repair and THEY could not get it off with their impact gun. They say it is rust-welded on (twin tractor blades). My question is how did you keep the socket on the bolt upside down while using the pipe(s)? !
After having the same problem by over tightening one with my impact, I now lubricate the bolt and the threads of the stud when I put the blade back on and torque them to the manufactures specification. I have not had any further problems. Hope this is helpful.
yep i use that stuff a lot and its pretty good. Another good one is to make your own penetrating oil. you can use 50 percent acetone and 50 percent auto trans fluid (ATF fluid) in a small oiler can. That works best when you can squirt them and let it soak overnight. Hit them a few times and ive had good luck with that as well. But I use that spray can pen oil for the quick...need to get it off now stuff too...LOL. Like was commented below.....out antiseize compound on the threads before you put those bolts back in, and they will be easier to deal with next time around.
I have a Hustler X-One. When re-installing my blades, I always spray the bolts and inside the holes with a light lubricant (i.e. WD-40). Then using a torque wrench, torque the bolts to Hustler specs (118-ft. lbs.). I use a light battery impact wrench (Bosch) only to remove the bolts. On occasion my impact wrench won't loosen a bolt and I like you have get out a breaker bar. This is usually caused from a impact with some immovable object, like a stump. Due to the blade's direction of rotation a impact will cause the bolt to over tighten well above the specs. I do not recommend the use of anti-seize, it lowers the thread friction a thus also lowers the torque requirement to obtain the correct bolt stretch or tension which is unknown.
I had a “Tall yard” 1st time customer I walked yard and everything on my New only 17 hours Kubota 54” Zero turn I was about done cutting and I hear this loud noise my left blade hit a trampoline pole buried in the yard sticking up broke the blade straight off bolt now I have to get the threads out of spindle from visual inspection spindle looks okay from what I could see I just couldn’t believe it first time ever that’s happened hopefully I can get threads out and everything will be okay shroud cover for spindle came off as well a little bent but it should go back on ..
PB is the best! I usually heat up the bolt then cool it down with PB. The expansion and contraction cooling effect will draw the PB into the threads. I heat bolts with an inductive heater. Best invention ever! Look it up on UA-cam. A must have for rusted/corroded bolts/nuts. I then lubricant with anti seize when putting back
There is a torque spec for mower blades (usually around 60 foot pounds for walking mowers). Torque the blade properly and use anti-seize lubricant on the blade bolt and this won't happen.
75$ Bauer Electric Impact Wrench Harbor Freight, has never let me down on those pesky stuck blade bolts. When you get one, you'll be asking yourself why you didn't have this before.
Glad you mentioned this. I’m having this issue. 2 blades came off with a ryobi impact. One is being stubborn. 18” breaker bar with another 12-18” bar ontop of that and still stuck. I was bowing the blade with the 2x4” trying to pull on bar. I forgot I had bought a hammer drill earlier this year to drill out tree stumps. I may give this a go. I see a bolt breaking 😬
I was trying to loosen the blades on my riding lawn mower. I was up to 7 foot pipe and large breaker bar. I was moving the entire mower but the blade nuts would not budge. It is criminal that mower makers feel they have to tighten them that much. Why??? They aren't going anywhere. All the torque is on the star shaped center. Nut doesn't have to do much.
The manufacturers don't tighten them to tight... They're actually able to be taken off with just two wrenches brand new. It's all of the vibration that causes bolts and nuts to tighten or loosen themselves. Which is why its suggested to regularly check your nuts & bolts.
@@OfficialxSimple Nonsense. Vibration will NEVER tighten the bolts or nuts. Vibration will loosen them over time. Blades come too tight directly from the factory. They are afraid of liability and potential dangers of loose blades.
