My daughter, Petra Shepard (American citizen), spent the first two years of her life learning English and Spanish. Then in the spring of 2012 we moved to China, where she has been for the past 14 months. When we first arrived she showed little inclination to learn Chinese Mandarin, but after 10 or so months something clicked and she began speaking. As of now, her Chinese is a little rudimentary, but she is on the fast track to fluency.
