Thank you for sharing. It is REALLY sad like you said that P&O is closing but l also like the fact they are keeping Encounter and Adventure in the Carnival cruises.
I am from the USA but have family in Australia and spend a few months a year in AU. We usually do a cruise from Brisbane each year. We like the Carnival ships with all the included food and activities but actually like the P&O ships just a bit better for the design and they are upkept so well. Maybe this will be a good thing, I hope they leave some P&O heritage on the ships. We tried the newer Royal Caribbean ships but did not like the food as much and felt they nickel and dimed you for everything and would not do another trip on a Royal ship.
Thanks dear Chris for the great update. It doesn't look like much is changing apart from the name and the free pizzas. Making the bears should be fun as people wil be able to choose the bar of their choice rather than the standard ready made ones. Went on the Mutiny on the Bounty cruise on Pacific Encounter in July. Had a balcony room midship and it was great out of Brisbane. The only disappointment was not being able to get off at Norfolk Island as the Captain said the swell was too large. We circumnavigated, but that's not the same. It looked like a beautiful place. I think we just went to Tonga a bit slower. Dravuni Island was really beautiful. My only real criticism of the cruise was the substandard entertainments at night in the theatre. They were not a patch on what is offered on a Princess ship with a full broadway style show. Carnival needs to up their offerings. A single hypnotist, the Voice on the Ocean or a poor quality comedian simply don't measure up. Don't know whether you can let them know. I was really disappointed. Hope that provides some feedback. The food was great on the ship. Loved the Pantry. Am looking forward to another cruise. Please stay cool during our Australian summer and stay well and happy. Best to you always, David ex Brisbane. Meant to say the new Brisbane cruise terminal is great and services for disabled pasengers are very good, quick through formalities and the help to the ship fantastic. The only downside is the distance to get to the terminal with limited access. I felt the Citycat was needed to get passengers there by river quickly and comfortably just like there is a train to and from the airport. p.s. You're a great friendly cheerful presenter.
P&O did briefly leave Australia in 1986 when they retired the old Oriana and the cruising scene was left with Sitmar’s Fairstar which is iconic to to Australia. P& O and Sitmar have a relationship going back to the 60s. Great ships, magic atmosphere on board…I hope the new lot don’t muck it up.
so pretty much its like p&o are still, here with us aussies, just under a different name...... but nothing really is changing with the venues or decor. im happy with that as the splendor and luminosa Are totally different in there decor And ambience to encounter and adventure. so its sort of like still having the 4 ships stay as is, just with new names an new paint jobs.
I was onboard the Pacific Explorer last week and the crew told me that the Pacific Explorer has been sold to a Chinese Line, possibly Star Cruises and will be fitted out as a casino ship.
It seems like they are really going to retain their P&O Australia decor and charm, but just wear the red white and blue crescent on the funnel.. I was hoping to get on board them before they switched over, but it is not looking good...;-( Great video.. I have to check your play list, have you done a study of the Explorer?? She is the last ship running in the regular cruise market.. Oceana sits rotting in Greece, Sun is the new Peaceboat, but Sea Princess is in the Chinese market now, isn't she.?? Loved the Sun Class 1995... Thanks for the tour.. Love this ship...
@@suave-rider Have you been able to sail on these ships? I have only been on Pacific Encounter but thought it was a beautiful ship and was very nice and kept up well. Did not seem second rate to me. I actually liked it better than my most recent sailing on the much newer Royal Caribbean ship.
@ still quite an upgrade from Fairstar. These Grand Class ships are still serving well in both Princess and P&O UK fleets and they ARE nice ships to sail in
I admire and love these ships I have sailed a few Princess examples. I greatly appreciate Cunard though Caribbean Princess is my favorite ship and very much an example of what you exhibit. Much less footage of you looking into the camera and more quality exhibits of these ships would be appreciated?
The change in branding of P&O’s Australian based cruises to Carnival represents the first step in the Americanisation of the Australian cruise market. This video spends much time on how Carnival’s Australian cruises will retain many of the features currently included on the P&O cruise ships operating from Australia. I am highly sceptical about how long these features will remain before Australian cruises become homogenised with Carnival’s American style cruises and lose their local identity and appeal to the Australian market. I have no doubt this will happen in the same manner as our television programming is now dominated by American made content, which I consider to be utter rubbish and refuse watch. It’s only about the maximisation of profit.
I think these specific Australianised ships will remain until they retire the ships and then we'll just have the oldest Carnival ships rotated into Australian waters
@ianbaxter99 Wow as an American I have always wanted to visit beautiful Australia but hopefully not all Australians are as rude as you are it’s great that you don’t seem to like our cruise lines or our tv programming we won’t loose a wink of sleep over your ignorance

As Bill Miller said on one of his QE2 lectures, that ship looks like a big shopping cart!
haha
Nice to meet you today Chris
You too 🥳

Considering the ship is basically the same as Ventura, those dining venues look enormous. Can do without the "fun".

saw these ships docked at the yard in trieste as they were finishing off the renovations for P&O australia

The fixtures and fittings were so well done, it’s a shame the finally built an identity for P&O and now it’s being replaced with Carnival
What is your guess of where Pacific Explorer will go? We travelled on Explorer in March 2024 and was great. Sad to see it go.
Wow!! What changes these ships have gone through.....I've sailed on both as Golden and Star Princesses. And got married on the Golden.
I was onboard the Pacific Explorer last week and the crew told me that the Pacific Explorer has been sold to a Chinese Line, possibly Star Cruises and will be fitted out as a casino ship.
Star Cruises has not sailed since they went out of business in April 2022!
@ Just reiterating what the crew told me. My error.
So basically still P&O but with a Carnival spice. Should be alright, though I too am sad to see P&O leave Australia.
Glad to hear you still love Aurora we are back on her again in March 25. Do you have any plans to sail on her again maybe after her refit
Being from the USA, I’m not understanding the reason for the name change. Thoughts?
Maybe reduced marketing costs...all under one brand....🤷♂️
Gives Carnival 2 more ships to advertise they have in their fleet.

I do have a full tour of Explorer on the channel 😄
@ awesome. I’ll have to search it. Looking forward to it. I know it’s a great tour. You’re always thorough
In reality they just refuse to spend any money on these exceptionally old ships, just continue to give Australian passengers second rate facilities

Ah, you mean P&O Australia cruises. Thank goodness. If it happens here in the U.K. we’d be off to Fred or Marella…

I’ve got full tours of these beauties where you don’t see my face at all on my ship tour playlist.
What about new Zealand ice cream? I'd prefer to still pay for real ice cream rather then the soft serve crap carnival has
New Zealand Natural will stay aboard 🥳
They should be returned to Princess Cruises. I cannot see these ships with a Guy's Burger Joint!
They won't have a Guys - watch the video!
you realise Carnival owns Princess too right

They'd have to spend a fortune on making these ships like the carnival ships.

It’s sad that these ships were upgraded for P&O and are now getting downgraded again. Then again P&O is a downgraded company now in the UK.

You should definitely visit! Australia is wonderful! Looking forward to being back in the US next year myself! Have a happy holidays.
