I have a 2012 XP 550 and love it. I am not particular to any brand but bought the Polaris due to a local dealer and great price. It's great on gas and handles like a dream with the eps. As for reliabilty i have not had any issues. that being said i don't beat the shit out of it either. If I get it stuck...use the winch. anything you buy these days is gonna break sooner or later cause everything is built by the lowest bidder these days.

Ive been riding Polaris for years and they never die. I have ridden arctic cat, Suzuki,Kawasaki, honda, and nothing performs like a Polaris does. Im riding a '96 for crying out loud and it is still in good shape. The brakes work like new. I'm rebuilding the motor to replace old gaskets and stuff but if you have something that long, maintenance should be done.

i have never had a problem with my polaris's 2000 500 ho 2012 500 ho both run fine i think there are just way to many people that dont know how to ride or dont know how to maintain an atv and i havent changed a belt in either of my atvs yet you just need to know when to use high and low gear and you have no problems

@MrKlotz05 Yamahas last and last. I had an old '84 yfm 200 that burned oil when I rode it in the mid to late 1990's.....but it started every time, shifted well, and ran great. We sold it to a friend and it still runs! Only thing I don't like about Yamahas - with my old one and my dad's '06 big bear 400 - is that the carbureted versions take a loooong time to warm up. Other than that, they're great. Great quality, handling, and power. Good luck with urs and congrads on a good purchase.

I still like the all around quality and feel of the kinq quad 500 better. The polaris ride is great though.

Any atv is good if you know how to maintain them and not beat the shit out of them.

    • @arneallaloo1567

FeaR but still there are atvs like yamaha and honda which u could beat the shit out of them and they will still be running.

Great bike like he said very comfortable to ride a the eps makes turning effortless.
I had a chance to race the 2014 550 vs a grizzly 550 2014 as well and expected the grizzly to win because popos are tanks in weight but the polaris won every race great mid and top end power.
But after only 15 hours of riding and not riding to hard on it the service light came on the headlights stopped working and a few other small things besides that though great bike for the $$$

+Pre5tig3 i've raced a 550 sportsman xp with my kingquad 500 EPS. It was a dead heat in acceleration but my Kingquad 500 had more mid & top. I topped out at 63mph & 550 XP at 62. I know the grizzly 550 smokes my 500 Kingquad in the top end at 65 mph. Arctic Cat 550 is last in our group when drag racing it does 60mph all out.

I wish you could still get this machine, when they went to the 570 and got rid of the 550, they brought back struts in the front!, Yuck! Its no wonder why the 570 is cheaper then the old 550, even though the 570 has a few more hp the rest of it is inferior to the 550/850/1000 frame and running gear, if this wasn't the right chassis to use, they wouldn't be using it in the 850 and 1000s. Gotta help my buddy find a used 550 as we both agree in the shortcomings of quality in the new 570s. Hell if I wold have known about the 550s before I bought my new 850 I may have went out and bought a used 550.

move up a model, they have adj. shocks on the 570. The 570 also has way more storage.

i really cant make up my mind...i am a motocrosser, but i am also crazy about atvs...and ive been informing myself and learning about atvs for many many many years now...i follow the atv industrie since i can remember...but there is thing that seems to me never to be settled: the quality....yes Hondas are basicaly made for quality...but about the others, i always see people saying "Yamis are the best!" - "No yamis breake down"...polaris are good, no polaris is shit...AC,Suzis, Kawis...?????.....

All anyone has to do is watch the Yamaha Grizzly comparison videos to the other OEM's. Polaris build quality IS very cheap in comparison. Sure, the new XP's look and ride really nice. Probably better than a Yamaha. But, overall build quality and reliability go to the Yamaha line. I have ridden both makes.

Beware of Polaris CVT transmissions. They love to eat belts like no other. That's why Polaris offers a longer warranty on the belt. They need to use the same design as Yamaha to stop this problem.

Josh Dose Very untrue my friend. My grandfathers 550 had 18,300 and ran like new until he traded it for a new Rzr 570. We ride hard in the mountains of West Virginia too! You just gotta keep up on servicing and it will treat you good.
