I was there that day. lucky to bet safely kept .not so lucky with go for wand that day . it was heaven and hell that day .my first and only breeders cup i attended .only if it comes back to belmont some day .mr nickerson also broke down that day and had to be put down
Dayjur had an off day here anyway . On his day He is the only horse i ever saw who would have had black caviar trailing in his wake. Dayjur was the ultimate speedhorse.
@Steven Genat I seriously do not know where you get Dayjurs race record from? And as much as I respect Black Caviar for being unbeaten, I still think she would not have beat Dayjur, but that's just my opinion.
@@nightowl7459 totally agree with you. Dayjur only ran as a 2 year old and a 3 year old so no surprise he won fewer races and won fewer awards. A Champion colt is always going to be sent to stud, especially one like Dayjur who had nothing to prove after a stellar 3 year old season. It makes more sense to keep a filly/mare in training past their 3 year old career. Prime examples in recent years being Goldikova and Enable. I think our friend from Down Under is missing the point somewhat!
Give your head a wobble Steven. No doubt at all that BC is a fantastic sprinter but she wouldn't see which way Dayjur went had they met on the racecourse. Deluded!
@@MEECHIO very true, sometimes it better and more profitable to retire racehorses at the end of their three year old careers if they have proved themselves on the racecourse.
I think if that race were to have been run these days, the trainer would be villified to no end for not having donned a shadow-roll on Dayjur who apparently was prone to jumping shadows. Just curious - was "Dayjur" a misspelling of Day and Jour (an Anglo-French redundancy) or does the horse's name imply something else? (the British race-caller pronounces Dayjur's name as written, not as "jour", the way we language-challenged Americans do)
To: tizfrreecharm - I think most in the UK would also surmise it was perhaps a corruption of day and jour, and yes, pronounced the way as it is written. Apparently it is an arabic word which translates to 'darkness'.
Yeah very unlucky would've won if it didn't jump the shadow started to go away until it jumped the shadow and it did it again just on the line unbelievable bad luck.
Dayjur is the best sprinter I have seen or likely to see. A truly great horse.
Stone of folca
Dayjur one of the all time greats at the trip, had it wrapped up, inexplicable
Still to this day the fastest horse over 5 and 6 furlongs I have ever seen , other great sprinters I love including Sharpo, Habibti and Danehill.
Was until battaash beat his nunthorpe stakes record last month.
@@harpalchauhan428 that aside i would still take Dayjur over Battash any day of the week.
I would add Muhaarah & Moorestyle to your list of great sprinters
Malagra malagra malagra..
Malagra was faster .
I remember watching that race live it was unbelievable was jumping for joy willie must have been peed off because it was the best IMHO
Willie Carson’s face tells you everything.
Class
Willie Carson will enjoy a long life, based on his contributions to society and the sport of kings.
Joseph Landrut I'm an old racing lad working for dick Hearn for 25 years and dajer was the fastest unluckiest horse I new (poor old clem )
@@victorblackman2776 He was extremely unlikely, the best horse lost.

He won the race, everyone saw that. never mind an off day ffs. Fastest sprinter ever....

Agree Roger ..... have seen nothing faster in last 30 years... awesome animal... this is still dificult to watch even now.....

back in the days when a neck was half a length lol Very unlucky.
I believe it to be arabic for 'arrow' which is pretty cool if true...
The track announcer said that Black Tie Affair was third. Let's see he ran 3rd in the sprint and won the Classic what a day for him.
+Richard Hommel He was 3rd. He won the Classic the next year in '91.
Shergars stablemate ' marwell' was a good sprinter..
@David Healy
So was Adjal but neither were as good as Dayjur.

Tottally shocking
Bet wee willie shat himself going at that speed
