This video shows my "cut & shut" process for making 2.2" x 5.20" JConcepts Tusks from 1.9" x 4.75" Tusks.
In this process I used:
5 ea. JConcepts Tusk tires
Straight blade lexan body scissors
Loctite Super Gel super glue
2.2" Beadlock wheel
6" straightedge

Is there a method to calculate the size of the filler piece? If I decide to try this with different tires.
@@gigawattrc I ended up using 1/2 an extra tire total for the set of 4, so the filler piece ended up being 1/8th of a tire, but you also need to make sure the tread pattern will repeat and line up properly. Hope that helps.
Want to make me some cut n shut megalithics? I'll pay ya

Just found out about this, but what's the point? They sell 2.2 versions of this tire tread
They do now, but they didn't back when I made this video. It'd be much better to buy those.
@@JPWirt ohhhhhh ok.saw a facebook post in a group about it but was really confused why people would go through this trouble
@@stylze5767 ya, not necessary for Tusks anymore, but there are other tires you could still do this technique on. West Desert Wheeler does it with ProLine tires not available in that size.
I don’t know why you would take the trouble to do that😮
Until JConcepts makes a SORRCA Class 3 legal Tusk this is the only way to get a C3 legal Tusk. They work that much better than anything else on our local rock type that this was totally worth it.
Do you think the same measurement work work on the proline Baja X?
Sorry, I have no idea. I don't have a set of those to measure.
I don’t have the patience to do this but really wish J Concepts would make an in between size of the Tusk. They are my favorite tire but I want something around the 5-5.25 inch height on some rigs and the 2.2 version is huge
I was kinda bummed when the 2.2 Tusk came out and it was so big. They really do need a narrow 5.25" version. I think they'd sell a ton of them.
@@JPWirt I got a set of the 2.2 Tusks and have them on a High Trail F150 but they are still too big for it so not many rigs can even use them
@@JPWirt and now they do make a 5.25 Tusk. Just released on their website
@@andrewhead4365 yep. Smart move on their part.
Great video you just inspired me to give it a shot for the first time I’ll definitely let you know how it goes.
Awesome! Thanks! I did practice on some RTR Element tires before I did those just because Tusks were/are hard to find.
@petroskaramichalos5891 Literally two days later, Jconcepts releases the 2.2x5.25 Tusk. Crazy!
You done made a tire! Well job! I need to see the action vid. I could not handle that 4 times. You have great patience.
Thanks! Action vid coming hopefully this Sunday.
How did the tires hold up. I was using same brand glue but mine are not happy. I'm hard on stuff so I'm wondering if it's from my driving or the glue
Great job 👏
Thank you!! Great job and simple walk through
I'm glad you liked it. Other than the big shock of buying (or even just finding) 3 pairs of Tusks and taking scissors to them, the whole process is easier than I thought it would be. I did practice on the General Grabbers that came on my Ecto first though.
What’s the advantage of doing this
Awesome Vid! Subbed!
Thank you & Thank you!
How well do these hold up. The glued seams I mean.
I'd say pretty well. I have been keeping an eye on the seams after each wheeling session. Only this past weekend I noticed a .125" gap that has opened up on one seam of one tire. They've seen 15°F to 80°F temps so far since I've started using them. I just re-glue the seam if it does open up.
@@JPWirt thank you. awsome video
5.2 does seem to be a sweet spot for 2.2s that are 1/10
Have you tried any other glues. I was looking at the loctite super glue power flex control I was thinking of trying that. Any thoughts?
@@tjpighin I haven't tried any other glue. That's the only set I've made so far. That Loctite Gel has held up pretty well. It doesn't run like a typical CA glue would. I think any similar gel type CA would work just as well.
