Wow! This comic and video redeemed this song for me. I consider mwY to be my favorite band but I've never clicked with this song. This helped changed that.
This was so very well done. Thank you for creating the excellent illustration. Someone else has mentioned that this song is a Christian allegory; I think that's partly true, but it also uses a Sufi story that the writer (Aaron Weiss) would have grown up with. I think that the final words are an allusion to an ancient story from the Christian Desert Fathers (monks): "Abba Lot went to see Abba Joseph and said to him, ‘Abba as far as I can I say my little office, I fast a little, I pray and meditate, I live in peace and as far as I can, I purify my thoughts. What else can I do?’ then the old man stood up and stretched his hands towards heaven. His fingers became like ten lamps of fire and he said to him, ‘If you will, you can become all flame.’"
I've always taken it as a cautionary tale against obsessively replacing one ignorance with assumptions amd flowery words and that in the end the King killed himself for nothing while his kin shortly followed suit there after... resulting in the ultimate demise of his entire culture. His people singing in tandem "Why not be utterly changed into fire?" until only a single voice is heard followed by silence. The Christian allegory is there, but it isn't a positive one.
@@RSHastingsIV flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God. I think they achieved Gnosis when looking at there physical leader turned into spiritual truth
Thanks for uploading this, the link to the original comic seemed to be broken when I went to read it. I kinda visualized a more medieval style artwork when I listened to the song, but I really like the cartoon style this has!

@@Randy_kit28 technically, but from the lore of hollownest we know the king granted everybody in hallownest the ability to think freely, so i would say he was already a form of god also the description on the kingsoul backs me up, it says somthing like a sign of union between 2 higher beings not to mention if we are using this song as info the pale king left to fight the radiance(which in hollow knight isnt canonical beacuse he is dead in the white palace on his throne but im pretty sure that the white palace being in the dreamworld and the radiance being the god of light and dreams might mean that he did indeed fight him) but what i meant by that is if the king used the dreamers to seal the hollow knight with the radiance inside him he must have moved his palace himself? Idk those all sound really godly especially when you consider what is a god in hollow knight in the panthon

The lieutenant has armor made of iron yet no one knows what fire is? Did someone just leave their bug sized suit of armor on the sand? Some bug had to have forged the armor which is why this comic is stupid (still good a song)
I’ve loved this video for many years. The comic style reminds me of Anthony Clark/KC Green’s webcomic BACK. Amazing work.
