I can only imagine. It's not just the sight either, it's also the sounds. So many time in the movie, you heard choppers, guns being fired, people fighting, sirens coming and going. it must have been a never ending drain on the soul.

His mom was NOT a bad mom. She tried her best and when she saw that she she was losing control, she sent him to live with his father. He didn't want to go if you remember. She promised when she finished school and could get a better place she would bring him back. That's what she read trying to do. I agree with furious, it should r his choice at that age. And of course he would no longer want to move with her because he just has a year left and so his friends are now in that neighborhood but i think it's important that he knows that he had option, that door was open and she kept her promise. Also knowing that your mother wants you and loves you to is important. I think without that he could have felt abandoned. What she said to furious was also on point. Furious did the right thing but it don't make him special. He did whst he was supposed to do and what single mothers had been doing got many years. Women often get criticism for raising their kids, especially their boys a certain way but they are doing the best they can without a father who goes missing. Men get that pst on the back for being a suckle parent but the woman gets criticism just like you guys did m you actually callee her a bad mother but she made all the right decisions pertaining to her son. NOW doughboys mom was a bad mother to him m they're is a huge contrast.

Brenda was the real villain in this film … doughboys opinion of women was formed because of the way his mother verbally abused him every day since he was a child

There is no villain of this film. This is a whole tragedy where people were put in horrible situations even Brenda, raising two boys by herself must’ve been very hard so me who has never had to raise someone in those conditions before has no right to judge or call someone a villain, because of how they handle situations whether or not if I think it’s right or wrong

Among the best things I love about Boyz n The Hood is Doughboy for his character and story development and Ice Cube’s performance in the role.
Cube at the time was among the emerging hip-hopers in the 90s with his debut solo album AmeriKKKa’s Most Wanted after leaving NWA.
The guy may not have had attended drama class in school, never did a film, never did a TV show or a stage show but it was the encouragement from John Singleton due to their friendship that convinced Cube to get the part of Doughboy.
John Singleton met Ice Cube when he was a member of backstage crew at the Arsenio Hall Show and even though Cube turned down the offer a couple times, I’m beyond glad he accepted the offer.
For an inexperienced actor in a cinematic debut, Ice Cube did an awesome job playing Doughboy. He played the role as if he (Cube himself) never had a dad, is the subject of ridicule and verbal abuse by his mum who favours a brother of his and ends up as as a Rollin 60s Crip. He did it so damn convincingly that he should’ve got an Oscar, a BAFTA, a Golden Globe - all three for “Best Supporting Actor” and MTV Movie Award for “Best Breakthrough Performance”.
This was long before Cube did the Friday films (film series he also wrote/produced), Are We There Yet?, xXx 2 and 3, Fist Fight, Ride Along, 21/22 Jump Street, Ghost of Mars, the Barbershop films, Rampart, Tresspass etc
If the Marc Webb-directed and Andrew Garfield-starred Amazing Spider-Man films were to conclude with a 3rd film (a 4 hour 3rd film to end the story) and if Ice Cube appeared in it - he would’ve been J Jonah Jameson (Daily Bugle newspaper boss). Imagine Andrew Garfield and Ice Cube in the same room! Wasted/missed opportunity in my opinion.

The sad thing about many women is that when they make poor choices in men, they take out that anger on the children they created with that man. Every time they see the child they see the man who broke their heart. Dough Boy's situation isn't uncommon unfortunately.

In the 90’s without cameras, plus not really looking to solve those shootings, it would mainly trace back if they found you later with the same gun.
The issue of those times was getting guns without bodies on them. The clean ones were more expensive and some needed, wanted, or could afford the immediate protection.

There are more fathers that are in their children’s life then back in those days in the late 80s and 90s crack cocaine mass incarceration and things like that really broke families apart during those times but in 2024 the black family is very strong black men are very present in their children’s life whether they’re in the home or not I just wanted to make that point

Liked the reaction, but noticed 2 things y'all didn't fully comprehend. 1) Trey's mom was not bad, it takes a great parent to be selfless and do what's best for the Child. 2) Ricky and Doughboy's mom pit them against eachother by how differently she treated them. Causing Doughboy to resent Ricky. Not coo... this also plays apart in how Doughboy views women. Not right, but I can understand it....

    • @CocktailFlicks
      @CocktailFlicks  Рік тому +5

In the case of Trey's mom, I think you are right. She made that choice when he was a child, and it was a good one as he grew up right. Our only gripe was that she wanted him back after Furious had raised him to become a Man, but he was all grown up at that time, and about to graduate, so why make him leave now? However, she's his mother and just misses him, and wants to be around him while she can, so I can respect that. I was not a fan of how Doughboy was treated by his mom growing up compared to Ricky. He might of had a better chance with equal love. I guess we will never know. You are spot on about how it shaped his view of women. Great observation!

No disrespect and I know you reacted the best you could from your ethnicity point of view and how you were raised and where you were brought up but this is it! I’m Black and I’ve probably spent more time growing up knowing different ethnicity’s and living in the
Hood and with no disrespect you don’t really have a clue, those brothers in the
Hood was mostly a product of there ethnicity and the
Life they grew up in you said why didn’t they call the police YES!!! In your neighborhood! But if you watch this movie again the way the cops acted and the media didn’t give a 🤬 that’s why they weren’t in a hurry to call the police but did what they did according to their way of life it doesn’t mean it’s right but for someone like you standing on the other side of the fence looking in there’s no way on G😇DS Green Earth You Could Really understand or feel their pain and it’s not your fault because you just don’t know and couldn’t know unless you were them and grew up under the same circumstances and conditions I didn’t write this comment to put you down or insult and disrespect your opinion but to educate you on something that no matter how you try to understand it in the realization of it all unless you could be born again black and during slavery or in there time you can only sympathize not improvise to understand because you’re not black and been raised in the hood and I wish no one had to come up like that but that was the cards 🃏 we were dealt and unfortunately and fortunately for you and others like you maybe this comment can get you and others of your ethnicity to look at other ethnicity with pause and understanding to the best of the knowledge others try to educated you if you choose to really sincerely be educated because you want to be! and all do respect it’s not your fault but in the words of a great poet, and artist Tupac Shakur that’s just the way it is!!!
