Looks like me trying to find class 4s in VT You know your pro, not when you don't break things, but when you instantly can tell what you've broken. Very interesting diagnostic at the end. Love seeing this sort of examination of damage. Interesting how the crystal structure is larger closer to the middle as it took longer to cool.
You just hit me with a wall of social responsibility. To be fair, we have never once condoned anyone not wear seatbelts. That would be absurd...much like our seatbelts that don't function properly unless you're on a level surface.
@@powerofyourbrains Haha yep social responsibilty! ;) Looks like a good climb. Looking forward to seeing you do it again with a better line so you don't have to cross the rut
@@subieliftoz4274 there are 3 videos up of us climbing this trail on different occasions. There actually isn't any better line. I think we needed some extra momentum to overcome the mud in that initial, very steep part. Unfortunately, cameras don't do a very good job at conveying this climb
Liking the content Boys. You guys are inspiring me to some perks to my 1999 LEG SUS, 4eat I bought a couple years ago. Thinking about a small lift (2 inch or under), and 50/50 mod switch with torque locker and FWD switch too. I have a question: can you use the 50/50 switch through at least the first 3 gears if not all 4 (higher speeds). I watched an good installation video on another channel but they claimed it should only be driven at low speed, yet some people commenting said there is no need for the 50/50 TCU mod button because putting the car in 1st will do the same thing.
I bought a set of those, after breaking the first I was bugged, the second I was pissed, and the third all of them came off and got replaced with something else.
Not sure what my problem is but I avoid doing sketchy things that close to dark...safety some time when ever...seems like forged would be best if they make them....
I would say that is certainly a good call. We do too, normally, but we were frustrated. We refused to go home empty-handed after driving around for so long...
does axle snapped because that locker ? if that wheel in air and locker make it spin and then car touches ground or something and suddenly it got grip and bam goes the weakest part there. i think axle its not worst brakes there. diff would be much worse problem.
Well, our end game is to get Torq Master's to make some anyway, so it's fine if they don't last. The design looks like it will play better with our long travel though...we shall see.
The rear oem inner cv joints are not tripod but ball type. Is that broken axle an oem Subaru ? Can't see the green NTN color under the mud and dust ! I'm sure the HD axles will break very soon too....sorry !
I don't believe so. It's not green like the other side is. May be why it's the one that gave. Regardless, we don't mind being the guinea pigs here. We have a FWD switch and tire chains in case shtf.
@@jasonchall3766 Good news, the Torq locker is very solid. Bad news, it can break oem cv axles...don't worry, a Quaife helical did the same to the same rear right axle (broken cage though, not an axle snap) on my Forester 3 weeks ago...
@@vincentwindels3752 Sorry to hear about your axle, but thanks for sharing, that's good to know, as a helical is definitely one of the other options I've been interested in. What axles are you planning to run going forward?
@@jasonchall3766 Oem axles as aftermarket axles are bad. But I have to say that I was very hard on the Forester getting up a rutted section (video to come if I can get the hand on it). Next mod is to try retrofit a Arduino traction control to help the helicals on diagonal spins, it should put less stress on the transmission too.
Those axles are complete junk. I appreciate the new design but they are garbage. I've had a 100% failure rate with them. This year installed two front ones on a 2008 Outback and they both blew up with no warning a few months later. It's the no warning that's the worse part. Just driving along and BOOM. The only thing connecting the tires to the drive train is the CV boot. I hope you have better luck but I absolutely don't recommend them. Start looking for replacements now.
Just chiming in to agree with everyone else; those "HD" axles with the ball spline design are garbage. There are several brands that sell them but they're all the same and everyone who uses them experiences failure.
Yeah, we've taken notice. We're full tubular back there now thanks to the new lateral links we just installed. Perhaps that will lend enough stability for them to last a little while. If not, we come prepared for the worst, and that includes tire chains. Tomorrow will be interesting.

seatbelts guys! You have 2.6k subscribers, please do not encourage your viewers to tackle difficult hills dangerously. Brain damage is forever!

Those "HD" shafts aren't really too HD at all.

We checked today and it was indeed an OEM one we broke. Green after all, just covered in mud.

21 years
All for cv axles should be changed to this type when lifting a Subaru
Wrong, unfotunately. These axles are junk.
Power of your brains if not your cv axles, some designed to compensate for the change in the geometry and load due to the lift and heavy tires.
