whoa. i haven't watched this show in years, and this is like the biggest twist i couldn't even imagine. i think it's awesome that Martha used her position as a senator to get into Checkmate and protect Clark from the inside. so cool. and really touching, too. great acting. love this mother and son dynamic. thanks for sharing all these clilps!
The Kent family dynamic is the best in the show's history. Martha doesn't warrant full time character status, but I DO think the show and Clark need her stabilizing influence. I really miss Jonathan and Martha. I'd really like to see Martha return for at least 6-8 episodes in season 10.
The life of an actor is one thing and the role of a character is quite another, they should not be combined. I've heard that some studios ban married couples from acting on the same show, and they're right, it just seems silly when you combine the personal life with the life of a fictional character. It was so ridiculous to Martha Kent and Perry White together!! Lol
Someone may want to tell Ginny Goodwin and Josh Dallas. They were Snow White and Prince Charming in Once Upon a Time and are married irl. Granted they got married during their time on Once so I don't know if that changes things
I love coming back to this scene because it’s such a great moment for us to see the amount of character development these two have had since season 1. This is not a conversation even in the realm of possibility back then.
I Love Marth Kent , ive always loved her always will, when she's around it makes all the things in smallville seem less horrible then they are sometimes like them damn kandorians ...its like when she around clark is more confident !!!!! clark and martha are the perfect mother nd son
The look on Martha's face when she turns around, realizing Clark knows she's the Red Queen and she can't hide it without lying to his face...Annette sold that expression perfectly. It showed she had grown so much, from the content and trusting farmer's wife.
I bet that other "plain of existence" Martha was talking about is the Fourth World, the universe where Apokolips is. I bet Clark will use the Book Of Rao to send the Kandorians away along with himself and will arrive on Apokolips. Where he, Zod, and the other Kryptonians will be greeted by the God Of Evil himself, DARKSEID!
Well they did say that the portal that the Book of Rao opened made it possible for Darkseid to locate Earth, though I doubt it took the Kandorians to Apokolips. I think it took them to New Krypton much like the comics storyline that happened not too long before season 9. Perhaps in Smallville New Krypton and Apokolips are both in the Fourth World universe. I also long theorized in the Kryptonsite forum back in the day that at least in Smallville New Krypton could in fact be the same place as the Survival Zone. Both the Phantom Zone & Survival Zone are pocket dimensions and if Jor-El created the Phantom Zone in Smallville's universe then maybe he also created the Survival Zone, or perhaps Zor-El did and Jor-El programmed the Book of Rao to grant access to it.
i wish smallville did kara and clarks relationship better hell the supergirl and new superman show fails at that to so idk what i exspect from tv shows anymore.
The Kandorians were sent to another place, the process wasn't interrupted. Zod was sent to the Phantom zone by the Kandorians. Clark wasn't transported because he was dead at the time.
everyone seem to think they know more then clark, I wish for once my father made all this stuff for me, he explain it all to me, all you guy know is romor I know the truth.
You know I don't know what the big deal was between Martha and the Red Queen I think it was a great idea I think the disgrace of the show should go to the fact that what Lana did I mean she broke up with Clark 15 times are in the show and he went back 15 times why because she had a meteorite power over him I believe. Remember the episode and where Bizarro takes Clark Place while he's Frozen in the Fortress and Lana can't tell the difference what Clark is who and then u go to the episodes in which the evil Clark comes from.the future and destroys Watchtower until Clark comes back at that very moment and then Lois knows exactly who he is without even thinking it didn't take her 3 weeks or nothing it just took her a matter of seconds that's the true love here. I hated the storyline with her and Lex and the whole marriage and the sex thing they had in the pregnancy angle I thought it was absolutely despicable. Because it made no sense at all none. To be honest in all fairness if I had to be with one of these girls in the fictional world I would have chose Chloe . She loved him from the start and she was the first girl he ever kissed when he was a child, even though he lost his virginity to Lana Chloe was the first girl he ever kissed be at a child or not. And then you got my second favorite was was Alicia that was just a tragedy watching her die the way she did. The only thing that saved that guy was Lois otherwise Clark would have killed him and to be honest I think Clark should have kill people I really do. The closest Clark came to kill somebody is when. Lex did what he did to finally separate him and Lana and he is getting ready to use his heat vision and just before he fires it the truck blows up. Otherwise Clark would have killed him.
In Lana's defense, Bizarro had all of Clark's experiences and memories, so he knew exactly how to manipulate Lana. Clark Luthor didn't and easily tipped off anyone and everyone on Clark's team, plus they already had knowledge of fake Clarks running around. Still Lois is his soulmate.
Actually Clark was the one who continually pulled away from Lana. Lana was always waiting around for Clark to get it together. The only thing she asked of him was honesty, but he kept thinking that he could have a relationship with her while keeping such a big part of himself a secret. As for the Bizarro thing, it's always odd to me that people are more bothered by the fact that she didn't know it was Clark than by the fact that she was taken advantage of by this creature. But that's just me. Chloe was great, but far from perfect and her inability to accept that Clark didn't love her was beyond irritating sometimes. Alicia was obsessed with Clark and was never a healthy fit for him.
@@aliciaborth3016 She accepted it EVENTUALLY, but for the first couple of seasons it was annoying how she'd constantly act like the betrayed woman anytime Clark even came close to acting on his feelings for Lana.
It was a disgrace it what they did to Martha in this episode. They destroyed Martha just like they destroyed Lana & Chloe with the shit they had her do as this ridiculous Red Queen garbage character. Jonathan & Martha Kent were supposed to be the 2 incorruptible characters from Clark's life who never gave into the "if the ends justify the means" mentality and here that's exactly what they had Martha do. Martha worked with Maxwell Lord in this episode of all people and we know what he almost did in Charade. The real Martha Kent in the comics would never do such things. It disgusts me what they did to one of my favorite characters in the series and a character I always rooted for. So Martha was worthless after this episode. The only character who remained true and never gave into that ideology was Jonathan, who never resorted to ill means to protect his son and who ultimately died to bring him back home in season 3. They did the same with Lois when they had her pull a gun on Tess in Dominion & corrupted her, but at least with Lois they didn't have her consorting with evil people to "protect Clark". Way to destroy even the characters who should be the most innocent you garbage writers. I despise when XYZ character talks about protecting Clark and does all kind of crap including unleashing kryptonite on him to get away with their plan. That's something Lex would do, not them. I could see them using kryptonite to stop Clark if he wasn't himself but that wasn't the case here. There was NO REASON Martha couldn't have met with Clark and passed off the info he needed to find the Book of Rao himself with her having to do what she did. This is unforgivable. If these writers think they're presenting Martha as a powerful character by putting her in that role, they have another thing coming. This was weak and they completely compromised everything Martha stood for. Also, how in the hell would any human being know what the Book of Rao would do or where it would take Clark & the Kandorians when the damn thing was hidden at the Kent farm for decades and no human had ever heard of it until the events of Kandor? More garbage writing at work.
Why must they remain being normal uninteresting every day people or it ruins it for you? It's the super hero universe so surely it shouldn't be ridiclous that something could happen to them just as something has happened to many others around them throughout every story. Come on now..
@@charlieclark9552 They never will let it go. I'm just glad people like that weren't writing this show otherwise it probably wouldn't have made it past season 2.

@@luckyjasonfan While I personally don't hate Clois, if it wasn't for the comic books and the heavy handed dialogue and scenes that they'd throw in foreshadowing their romantic relationship, I never would've guessed that they were building towards one because from seasons 4-7 they looked and acted like bickering siblings than two people who had these hidden, growing feelings for each other. And while Erica and Tom are adequate in the chemistry department (they do have moments that I think are sweet), I've seen better. And I'm sure on that other plane of existence clark wouldn't have any powers. So Zod and the other Kandorians could take out their rage on him.
So it was Darkseid that interfered with the process and sent them to the Phantom Zone? or was that always the intention?

I agree. The last few seasons Smallville really aren't that great, imo.
Martha inherited Lionel's collection. The information on the Book of Rao was believed to be in the Veritas journals or some other book Lionel had.
You would think she would be back for a few episodes since she is the mom. I hate how she never reappeared. Most families go to visit one another.
It was the writer's fault. She wanted to have a bigger role.
Later seasons added more cast members. They pushed her out for budget reasons
