Well done. On your work. It makes me smile when you bleep out words but we know what you say anyway. That was a good video. Keep up the good work and have a great week
Hi May and George wonderful to see you both together. You seem to get on very well together and have a lot of fun. Wonderful into the other loan off each other. Keep up the good work. Really appreciate you both love the videos Cliff from Logan City Queensland Australia 🇦🇺
You are such a human treasure.....wish I had more of what you got...admire the way you stay with the problem.....dont know how you cope with those more mundane tasks in the background.... Keep up the good work love what you do!!!
May, I do admire how you just get on with things. If nobody else has mentioned it- do you know that the Workmate is also a vice and will clamp the wood whilst you are cutting it or sanding it etc?
Happy birthday George, (for whenever it was) Making mistakes is how you find out how things work. And we all get that impatient feeling sometimes. Time is something that never enough of. The frames are wonderful idea they now look like artwork which change everyday.
I have also experienced that DIY disaster with the expanding foam. Never again - I always wear gloves and never, ever let it touch my skin - nothing gets it off. In the end the 'solution' was to wash my hands in oil to seal it in and then wait for the skin to drop off by itself. Or sand my fingers, which I declined. 😂 I'm told that these days "Big Wipes" will now get it off but they weren't about at that time. As you've discovered it is very easy to shape by cutting/sanding after it has set hard, so also resist the temptation to shape it while wet - it always ends in tears. 🙈 Also - please wear gloves (and maybe use a cheap clamp) when cutting with a saw - will save you from lacerating your hands! If you sand the ends/faces before you varnish, you'll get a nice finish without any splinters. 👍 Still, with the help of George you got a great result, so well done!! 😁
Awesome video again May thanks don't be to hard on yourself it does get overwhelming when you have constantly got things to do. The finished windows look great with trim back on, it's all a learning curve stay positive your doing a great job. Thanks again take care and stay safe 👍 😊.
Great Vlog as usual May. Love your sense of humour, reality and honesty. Your work ethic and belief is to be admired. It’s so interesting to see how you maintain the boat and lifestyle. It has been fascinating to see how you have redone your windows. Making your own knife, fantastic , then sawing your thumb “ the cutting edge of boating D I Y “ The sword is amazing. Great teamwork between you and George, what a great sense of achievement and lovely for you having company. Well Done May and George of course Thank You for sharing
Your reflections are really interesting. You're thinking like an engineer with 20+ years experience. We usually doubt ourselves when we're right and it's usually the self doubt that makes sure things are right. We're usually at our most confident when we're sailing at full speed into the metophorical iceberg aboard our unsinkable ship.
I need to borrow George to help me fit out my boat! Glad you have finished the windows. In fact, it was your first vid on doing your windows when I came across your vids
You are doing a really good job of those windows with limited tools . You could get a neater finish if you countersunk the screws with a countersink bit.
I’ve been watching your videos along with a load of other narrowboaters… so much so I bought one unseen from Australia and now I’m on it and have been for a couple of weeks (Hawkesbury Junction at the moment… I love it however I get that low feeling too and is tough to break that mood (I find it very tough) things should be great and exciting new and adventurous however our heads get in the way… anyways… love your outlook and enthusiasm… well done breaking the low mood….
Hello lovely May a lovely blog agene you make smille feel Happy Chilled out you are a ray off Sunsigh always busy happy do so well liveing on your lovely Narrow boat on your own with family and freinds help you make my week sweety keep the blogs coming love N1 fan jenny

Your so open and honest Yea I live alone on my boat sometimes I feel same as you do But no matter what I always keep busy no matter what keep positive always looking forward to tomorrow never looking back is the only way I bet u felt better when you sorted your windows PS when the spray foam has dried cut It with a Stanley knife Thanks for another fantastic video May thumbs up 👍🏼
Good on you self motivating yourself,,having hectic week away from your normal organisation on your boat is wat does it,,same happens to me,,but your strong willed look forward to next week,❤🎉
Your Rayburn/Aga can serve as a very good metal heating furnace if burning Phurnacite ! Used one to make a poker, twisting and turning an eye on one end and tapering the other !
Get yourself a Japanese type saw, it cuts way easier as it cuts on the pull stroke. As far as impatience is concerned, as I suffer from it, work out your process steps are and then follow them and don't allow yourself to skip
Thanks for your mindfulness ahhhh chatting at the beginning. I have stuff to do, and I'm not keen for one step to turn in to five steps 🙃 where i'm also finding it hard to swing into the next step. It will be new stuff for me. Breathe breathe. Are you still doing the cacao ? I tjonk it mskes ypu burg because chocolate contains smaller amount of caffeine than coffee, but has caffeine. Don't know if it'ss dutch-process or not. That removes some caffeine i think. I can see that being able to successfully complete your windows 🪟😀 is a big 👌relief
14:43 comes from assuming. My wife does exactly the same. But assuming sometimes it’s fine but assuming all the time is not really convenient. I’ve done my windows yesterday put some curtains up and my mind was keep repeating that I need to measure all at least once before cutting 😅
Do they have double paned windows available? That solved the condensation issue for me on my home in Suwannee County Fl. I love your show almost as much as I love your smile. Keep creating, and don't stop smiling.
So I left another message somewhere. Basically things come from assuming. Some people assume too much some people assume nothing 😅 if you assume here and there is fine but if you assume all the time you have to be the observer and realise. Sometimes my observer tell me what to do and seems that is working great 👍🏻 If you ever down to Egham and want to chat do a video exchange some ideas I would love to ! My boat is called Marlyn 😅
That squirty foam is the devil's invention. It's tempting enough to want it (I mean, it bloody works fabulously, doesn't it?) but it's hateful to work with, ruins clothes, sticks to your hands like (insert your own description), and can you imagine if you got it in your hair (yours especially - mine's a lot shorter)? Someone on another forum recommended a non-stick gun - looks like you have one already. That will at least help me when I get around to doing my windows (in the spring). Previously I've only ever used whatever nozzle came with the can and ended-up having to throw away the can after that first use.
Any man or woman who can forge their own blade has my utmost respect. Georgeous is as handy as a pocket in a shirt, a small pot even. In short a sound man. An all rounder and maybe, just maybe, a multi tasker !!!!!😂 on this side of the pond I've just finished I think an orgy of guitar buying. I've gotten a cocker pup who has me in training. Making shapes at the first cut of grass. Just shapes. Spring has sprung thank god. Keep plenty of treats around for George, positive association you know. 👍
If you have a large, hollow pottery duck, don't try to fill it with expanding foam to make it more solid. It will explode, leaving foam stuck to your new carpet. Ask me how I know this 😂
May, if their is any a time to ask you to a DIY party, don't come. Second thoughts it's all good for the giggle and if you don't try you don't learn. That's if you have any finger left. Good George comes to the rescue again but you have still learnt just a tiny bit with the cross examination of your inner self. Your OK just keep trying, we all learn our limitations from our mistakes, with a ton of people out here wishing to help you.
If you ever want any "mansplaining" hit me up...I know way too much about boats and carpentry...In no way I am trying to brag, I have had good and bad stories with both - Love your Energy and Stories!
Two ideas: gloves and acetone. Slather the foam on, let it set and then carve it to desired shape, sand, seal and paint. The next step down from perfect, but not too feckin' bad.
Bonjour May. Georges est vraiment un homme très précieux avec toutes ses compétences. Je pense que vous devriez l'attacher par une jambe pour l'empêcher de repartir......
Can't touch this !.........Hamp would have done the Work two and naturaly. The Foam is expanding heavily and is not Water resistant . It is not breathing like Wood. So Hamp ore Wool is the better Choice to fill small gabs . But , you have find a way for your own. Thats always the Best. From the Harz Mountains, Rudi👍
using a foam gun you need to turn the flow down or only pull the trigger very slightly to control the output of foam, it looks like it's coming out way to fast !
Not quite the same as your expanding foam, but it reminded me of a friend of mine. He used to fill cavity walls with polystyrene balls. Having drilled a hole into the cavity, he stuck the pipe in, and turned on the pump, what he didn't realise was that it was only a single skin wall, and he was filling the kitchen with his balls. Whoops.
You will be amazed if you would you star drive screws instead of philips. I bought a battery powered nail gun, and never use it since I started using star drive screws.

Yes it was!
We love living our lives with you. Our kids are a bit older than you , you are refreshing.
I allways use a multi tool to take the excess foam off, very satisfying 😀
May,You are an inspiration for everyone who wants to leave this crazy rat race and live a unique lifestyle.

Hi if u spray the foam with water it will stop it expanding😊
There is a special spray for expanding foam cleaning. It desolves it.
