      Yeah, I’ve been doing this gig for a long time. The city is definitely more enjoyable than the hospital! Thank you so much for watching.

      That discharge suite is pretty awesome, but it wasn’t a good fit, overall, for me. Thank you so much for watching.

    Hi friends. Those food trucks look great. The discharge suite sounds like a well thought out concept. ER holds sound like they could be tough! Sorry you had such a difficult time there. Glad you're able to move on to another contract. That sounds like a definite benefit of the travel nurse life...being able to leave things behind you and start fresh with the next contract. Glad you're able to keep on moving on!

    • @NursingOurTravelBug

      Yeah, sometimes you get a tough assignment. I like to say I can do anything for 13 weeks, but I had to draw a line with this one. Now we’ve moved on and are in a better spot. It’s one of the beauties of this line of work. Thanks for watching.

    L&D nurse here - non traveler. 1st your video was great, so informative, I worked my share of Med/Surg and Discharge Suite sounds like a dream come true ❤ I know this is certainly hindsight, but is there a way to not have to go to ED Hold (sounds terrifying 😮) officially in your contract, or is that just part of the “Float” part of your Med/Surg contract? Also did you run into any travel L&D nurses or know if they as well have to float to ED Hold or just to Mother/Baby? Thanks again- great video!

    • @NursingOurTravelBug
      @NursingOurTravelBug  Рік тому

      Great questions. As a traveler, it’s expected that you’re the first to travel. However, you are “supposed” to float to a comparable unit. For instance, as a Med/Surg nurse Id never float to L&D except just to task. His particular contact mentioned that I’d do Med/Surg & float for ER holds. I don’t recall running into anyone at this facility who worked in Mother/Baby. However, this is a HCA facility. They are notorious for running with high patient/staff ratios, minimal equipment, and little to no ancillary staff. They care about the bottom line. I’ll never work for another HCA facility and I caution other health care professionals who think about employment with them.
      Thank you for watching & for your nice compliment.

    I have always wondered about this 'Traveling Nurse' thing. It sounds like there is a lot of things to consider before one would want to chose a career path like this. I will be waiting for Part 2 of the saga. ;) Stay safe friends!

      There’s definitely some romanticizing when one talks about travel nursing, but there’s certainly more to it. We love to travel, but moving & starting a new job every 3 months isn’t for everyone. Thank you so much for watching! Will be posting a follow up soon.

    We had no idea what you were taking about sometimes, but we aren’t nurses. 😂 It sounded like you were way over worked in the ER. That seems dangerous. I would have left as well. I hope your next assignment is better. Thank you for what you do. ♥️

    I’m starting South Austin Tele unit in a couple weeks as a traveler. Anything to look out for? Or be aware of? I’m kinda nervous for working for a HCA.

    • @NursingOurTravelBug
      @NursingOurTravelBug  2 роки тому

      The units themselves were pretty great! Just be ware if you ever float to the ER to do inpatient holds. That was a dangerous environment for me.

    Who in the world started this ED-hold trend?!?! My personal record is 10 patients in one shift floated to ED holds. I felt like the conveyer belt at checkout! All I could do is keep them moving across and hand off as quickly as possible for fear of hitting a whammy or like russian roulette with sick people. It’s nuts!

    • @NursingOurTravelBug
      @NursingOurTravelBug  2 роки тому

      Right?! It is definitely one position I will NEVER accept again. It’s crazy fast-paced and dangerous for my patients. This is how things get missed, errors get made, and people get injured (or worse)!

    I am moving to Austin soon.. debating if to work at the north or south St. David.. any thoughts?

    • @NursingOurTravelBug
      @NursingOurTravelBug  3 роки тому +1

      After my horrific experience at South St. David, I certainly wouldn’t return to that hospital. In fact, I won’t work for another HCA facility again. I’ve learned that HCA hospitals in general care about the bottom dollar & not the ones breaking their backs to help them earn it.
