This is one of my new favorite crush songs. It's unconditionally admiring; its quiet and not forward; it's not impulsive; it's steadfast and isn't born of the heat of the moment. And yet it's not less loving than songs full of sexual passion. It's not sad or happy. It's solemn. There are no lyrics about him wanting to be with her. He's describing her beauty, not to woo her, but to show respect ----BTW I like to think of this song as a tad bit separate from Evan's character. It's not part of the musical, so I see the song from a generalized perspective, not Evan's.
@@unmusicallyinclined I don't understand why this idea that Evan is an idiot seems like a very wrong perception to me. was he wrong? Yes, did he lie out of malice? No. In fact, he starts it in part to make the Murphys feel better. It was later as things progressed that he began to feel comfortable and loved, and that led him to be selfish but not ill-intentioned or idiotic. He was just a poor boy who felt alone, and who was going through mental illness. Just because he was wrong doesn't make him an idiot, it makes him human.

biggiecheese_is_a_snack What are you talking about?! Taylor’s voice is PERFECT for this role! It has a certain young vulnerability to it that is just perfect for Evan’s character and personality
Him and Mallory Bechtel for Zoe. It doesn’t ruin it by any stretch of the imagination, they’re both incredible, but sometimes it’s a little jarring to compare it to Ben Platt and Laura Dreyfuss
Imagine Connor singing this. Or even Zoe, waiting for true attention from her parents. Or a dueto, both of them singing wishing to hear an " I love you" from their parents. (Of course the lyrics would have to change a bit to fit their characters and the scene)

I'm pretty sure the lyrics are "it's something you don't need to hear" instead of "it's something it done me to hear" but other than that it's perfect 💙
Yaaaaaas so glad to have more tracks with Taylor Trensch- his tone is so down-to-earth and clear, I feel like the character of Evan Hansen really shines through his voice. This song is so sweet!
Honestly, when I first heard the song, I thought it was actually Connor singing to his sister (and not Evan 'telling her what he said'). It was as if he wanted to say that he really cared for his sister and didn't think he had to state the obvious (and as a teenage boy, probably felt embarrassed at the thought of talking about /feelings/). Even if he didn't say or show it, he cared for his sister, always watching out for her. He saw how he drew stars on the cuff of her jeans and still answers those questions on those teen magazines and how she danced like the rest of the world wasn't there. It felt as if he found all of those things endearing for him, but never showed her he did. They never really got to say that they loved each other because it felt awkward for him, for them. But he felt that it was painfully obvious, and it pained him to see that even though he thought it was obvious, no one saw through his real feelings. No one even knew how he was already falling down, drowning in his own thoughts and in need of help from someone who cared about him. He was silently crying for help and yet they missed something this plain to see. Imagine if this was included in the musical after "If I Could Tell Her". Evan tried expressing his feelings for Zoe by 'telling her what Connor said to him'---but what if Connor actually did feel as how Evan said? What if Connor actually really cared, watched over her, and wanted to express all those feelings...but had lost the chance to do so after taking his life? I kind of wished that the story gave more background on Connor and how he felt because that could help us understand what people like him go through. There are a lot of Connors out there thinking that their cry for help is painfully obvious, and that they cared about their loved ones even if they left this world.. I just see that there are so many people that still find suicide to be something selfishly done by someone. Just because they did it, it doesn't erase the fact that they loved their family, that they needed help, they needed someone. But nevertheless, the musical and all of its songs were amazing ♥️ Just sort of rambled there hahah 😅
OMG, someone finally said it, I really wish they make some kind of spin off for Connor too, and not just end up becoming some kind of ghost or made up story by Evan. He didn't get the closure he needed in this musical imo
In the novel there are chapter's narrated by Connor in which we get to know more about him, his past and what happened the day he died. He actually had a person he cared deeply about and loved. His name was Miguel, he was his only and best friend and possibly even more, if things went different in his past school. Connor struggled showing his feelings to Miguel and letting him in his life so I think this song fits perfectly to this storyline. If there was a movie or version of the play that focused more on Connors perfect he could sing this song - as a "ghost" - after "If I Could Tell Her" so the song could start of being about Zoe (as you said) but then end up being about Miguel, as Connor reveal their relationship and remembers him
I just waltzed around my room by myself while listening to this at full volume in my headphones. I want this to be mine and my future husband's first dance at our wedding. I can't think of one thing that would make me happier 👕💙
The guy can sing! And act! A great song, sang by a wonderful Evan. This musical has cut out more good music than many people can write/compose in a lifetime. And Alex's orchestrations and piano playing is just incredible.
Taylor is the perfect voice for this song! It gives a new perspective for Evan's character in my opinion and makes him come off more soulful than hopeful. Like his love is more than just a crush, it's genuine. ❤
God this song is so beautiful I can't :''""") thinking someone must know you love them and finding out your feelings may have not been as obvious as you first thought? That is a painfully obvious universal concept. It doesn't even have to be romantic love.
This song is so wonderful... it’s so simple and realistic, I absolutely love the emotions and realism portrayed through this song. It’s not necessary sad or happy, it’s just perfectly solemn. One of my new favourites! 🥰
I’M A HUGE TAYLOR AND BEN STAN I WAS LOOKING FOR THIS COMMENT OMGMGMGMGGMMMGG But seriously, they had to be separated by Ben playing Evan on tour, so with all the loving emotion in this song it’s adorable to think of him thinking of Ben. They’re the absolute perfect couple.
Wow! His voice is incredible here, so pure and heartful. I understand why they put If I Could Tell Her instead, it thickens the plot more. But this, you can fill his yearning for love and connection so much.
This song would be so much more heartbreaking if it was Conner's point of view, it's like a parallel to 'If I could tell her' but it's actually him saying these things to Zoe. Especially since Zoe thought that her brother actually said all these things about her, she thought that maybe he actually cared and then she's told that the only time's Conner ever said anything nice or told her he loved her wasn't even true. Then he sings this and it's even worse because she won't ever know he actually did care about her. Or whatever, I explained that terribly. Edit: and then he's sort of blaming them for his suicide, -it was just so obvious, how could you not tell? I'm right here in front of your face so obviously broken and you won't even look at me-
I love this so much, but, I do think that "If I Could Tell Her" shows more of Evan's personality and Zoe's eagerness to learn about her brother. This is still cute af :)

Did anyone else realize that in the first verse, it kinda sounds like Taylor says "Mothers all worry and we- old people die"? Like he almost said we die or something like that or am I reading too far into this??
I think it sounds as if he slightly pauses because he was going to say something like “and everyone dies” but catches himself just before and changes it to “old people die”, which sort of subtly emphasises the musical’s tragedy of a young person dying. Now that I’m listening into it anyway, can’t say I noticed it too much the first time I heard it.
He almost nothing. He simply sing "Mothers all worry, ann... ...nd old people die". That's just how he chose to style the lyrics. Other options were to hold the A, or hold nothing and just sing "and" all at once, last second.
Being that he's a sings in musicals, this isn't auto-tuned, right? Cuz it sounds like it is, but I think...he just manages to sing that way...? If so, that's very impressive. In any case, I feel like it's too steady and professional-sounding to be the trainwreck that Evan is. Especially when being sung to Zoë. It definitely stands out as weird to me.
if i could tell her portrays Evan's character more. He wanted to be liked by people, stopping at nothing to get it once it falls into his lap, and he wants the girl, he wants ZOE. If i could tell her shows how creepy he is watching her all the time like that, to the point of knowing these things about her, past just simple admiration or a simple crush. He went to the lengths of using a kid's suicide to get close to his crush, or unhealthy obsession. As sweet as Obvious is, and as much as I love it, if i could tell her fits the show better. Obvious is more of a distant, softer portrayal of Evan's character.
I get that, however I feel like the song is too confident to be sung by Evan. Love the song! Think it is 10/10 however I think If I could Tell her did the job it needed to better.
I like this 1000 times better than If I could tell her honestly. It has a better flow, the song is more romantic and nice. I’m actually pretty upset this was cut. In fact, it is 1000 times better than If I could tell her.
I wish they had performed a version with all the cut songs in, it would have been totally different granted, but equally good if not better. They could have gone deeper into the ‘obviousness’ of Connor’s suffering too

this weirdly fits the vibe for "going viral" omg....
Me: dancing in circles without a partner
"Why. Go. Stating the obvious. It's so painfully obvious~"
I never really thought high of Taylor but THIS SONG MAKES ME THINK DIFFERENT
I'm just playing this song on repeat.
Oh no I didn't know this song existed agdkahsja I'm obsessed
I like this 1000 times better than If I could tell her honestly. It has a better flow, the song is more romantic and nice. I’m actually pretty upset this was cut. In fact, it is 1000 times better than If I could tell her.
his voice is so lovely
I think we all know who our lil taylor is thinking of ❤️❤️❤️
For yall like who Its ben, ben ross
I stan that so much
It’s this that makes me so happy I met Taylor
I love this and it would have been cool to have this in the soundtrack but I agree that "Tell her" works better on stage!
Wow. Taylor sounds so good ahhh!
this song is the final trigger to make me write my own love song thank you dear evan hansen
Ben Platt, Noah Galvin, Andrew Barth Feldman, and Jordan Fisher could never. We bow down to Taylor.
Why compare? They’re all fantastic
i love him
I wish they had performed a version with all the cut songs in, it would have been totally different granted, but equally good if not better. They could have gone deeper into the ‘obviousness’ of Connor’s suffering too
this song relates so much to "miraculous" who agree with me ?
BRUH YESSS THIS SONG IS SOOOO LADYNOIR/ LADRIEN. CAN YOU IMAGINE CHAT SINGING THIS TO HIS LADY OR LADYBUG SHYINGLY SINGING THIS FOR ADRIEN?????'
@@braiansingh9730 yup
This is beautiful! 😢
The instrumentals in this song are gorgeous
I LOVE THIS SONG SO MUCH! IF ONLY IT WAS IN THE MUSICAL!! :(
This song I can’t 😍😍😍
I feel like this would hurt a lot if it was sung by both Evan and Connor
The only best thing about the deluxe album
Hiding In Your Hands is amazing too
If you really want a drastic change in music, I went from ITS FROM JAPAAAAAAAAAAAAAAN (The Squip Song) to this very calm song
THIS SONG IS SO AMAZING!
Taylor oh my god😭😭
holy CANOLLI I CAN'T GET OVER THIS SONG.
this made me feel more than I can process oh WOW
I can't believe I'm saying this...But I actually think I prefer this one over If I Could Her... And I love If I Could Her...
i’m crying oh my god this is everythING
Not gonna lie I like this better than If I could tell her
I need all the cut songs on spotify
this is honestly my favorite cut out song
