- On April 7, 2019, the Marine Band presented a Young People’s Concert titled, “The Incredible Big Band.” The program featured a wide variety of modern pop, timeless jazz classics and music from the action-packed animated film “The Incredibles.” Conducted by Assistant Director Capt. Ryan J. Nowlin. Louis Prima, arranged by Mike Lewis, “Sing, Sing, Sing.”

Can someone explain why no one has rank on their uniforms? I have never seen that before. It looked like the leader may have had captain’s bar on his?
There's no good "explanation." It's probably what the Director/CO (Capt Nowlin) had them wear. Notice they also lack ribbons and waist belts. This is an informal event and as such, they have a more informal uniform.
@@JaredAF Sorry, that doesn’t make any sense at all. I don’t believe the band has informal events and would dress down and leave rank or ribbons off. There are strict rules and regulations about uniforms, there has to be a better explanation.
@@crew-dog2668 And in the Marine Corps Order concerning uniform regulations, there are dozens of instances where things are left up to the commander's discretion using language such as, "unless prescribed by the commander," or "the commander may elect." There are lots of instances in which even the individual Marine may elect, unless another wear of the uniform is already prescribed by the commanding officer.
For example, on the Service "B" and "C" uniforms, an individual may elect to wear all of their ribbons, individual awards only, or no ribbons at all unless ribbons are prescribed by the commanding officer, in which instance the individual must wear all ribbons or individual awards only.
In this instance, I believe the commanding officer, Capt Nowlin, prescribed this specific uniform for the event.

The Marine Band has a video on their uniforms. This is their "Concert Full Dress" uniform, which is a less formal uniform than their full Ceremonial uniform. It omits ribbons, waist belt and rank insignia.
