Literally JUST installed an EL/AZ rotator system for satellites & low-power EME, soI found this presentation VERY informative! 🙂

Thanks Nelson, that's the idea about knowledge sharing videos. I'm very happy that it was helpful. Good luck, 73.

Doug, great! Well structured presentation with lots of tips for EME beginners. Very big thank you for mentioning Sergey RX1AS in your speech. He became a legend in our local EME community. 73!

At 45:00, regarding circular polarized antennas. Consider that moon is a reflector and thus it change RHCP to LHCP and vice versa. Then, you should to use two antennas, one LHCP and one RHCP, depending what other person in QSO have... or give up - just using cross-polarization.

If I have a dish/correct feed and just point it at the moon, how easy is it to stumble on someone's EME transmissions?

I am on the east coast of Florida, some miles inland, but not many tall buildings between me east. Do I stand a chance with a IC7300? I have been to the beach at moon rise and it is Beautiful! Can see the moon and the reflection on the water. Just getting started HF and only have 7300 and long wire now. Living on SS and not much money. 73 W4DES

@Donald, The IC7300 is an amazing transceiver. With a long wire you can do the DXCC and WAS easily with SSB, CW, FT8, etc. But for EME, without a directional antenna, the chances are very low.

is it possible to do phone on 2m moon bounce? say if both stations were using 1.5kw and massive beams?

Yes. I was part of the group with WD5AGO back in the early 90's when we placed I believe 3rd place in the eme contest. I built the 2m 8 element yagis we stacked for the contest in the electronics class I was in as an adult in vo-tech and we also ran a dish up around 1Ghz. We were able to use phone on both if I remember right. I do remember that I could key up and talk and unkey to hear myself.

Sure, 144 MHz is very popular foe EME

Tell bob Knodel (kn0del) extra and professional RF engineer that he’s wrong he’s a flat earth space denier and said EME can’t be done.
