RTG and Nuclear powered engine is completely different thing.......RTG's are used by Nasa for more than 50 years and mostly they generate 110 watts of energy for example Voyager 1 and 2 are launched in 1977 but they are still working. On the other hand Nuclear powered engine is still in concept stage.
Every one has to start somewhere so, all the best to BARC and ISRO.
This idea was shared by me to all isro Scientists via mail in 2012 but as per my idea there was one hgydrogen engine for earth atmosphere to avoid nuclear radition and Nuclear engine should be started in space.

RTG was required for Chandrayaan-3 to last longer on Moon (atleast a year). Just relying solar power reduces the life to just a few weeks. We need RTG for sure for powering onboard devices, however a nuclear fuel rocket engine is a whole different ball game that generates thrust using a propulsion system using controlled nuclear fission.

No, this not the case.... Isro is developing radioisotope thermoelectric genrator... Which will power the payload with electricity not the rocket engine ...

But we need to remove age limits and stupid reservations and create more jobs in these organisations so that we can add more effort for these missions as well as create a larger business model that can attract foreign funding. We are currently very financial constrained and so unable to create enough jobs!

I believe this would be an interesting project and a big leap towards making our space program the top tier
People are mixing navigation and system power here. In space they are different. As far as navigation is concerned, in space there is no air/medium. Hence you need matter to push backwards to move forward. System operation can done by using solar energy. So using nuclear energy is not a big deal there.
Yeah... Nuclear propulsion doesn't make sense unless there is some breakthrough.
And I am not completely aligned on solar power as low sunlight or planet's dust clouds can completely block sunlight for days rendering expensive missions useless. I favour nuclear but solar for sure is cheap,easy and effective solution for short term objectives.

If we use ion propulsion system then it's possible
Nuclear propulsion or anything like that is several decades away. What we will do is use electricity generated from small nuclear generators to power ion thrusters.

There is a big mistake in this video. Nuclear thermal propulsion and Radioisotopic battery are not the same. The former is a proposed technique for rockets, while the latter is used for heating, producing electricity, and has been utilized in many space missions by NASA.

I think Ion thrust is the future.
Ion thrusters are faster than nuclear rocket but the mass of particles and quantity is so low it can't be used normal rocket have 4km/s thrust (particle speed from exhaust) but ion have 40km/s thrust but not efficient with current tech
