- We traveled the Silk Road of Uzbekistan, heading west to the ancient city of Khiva! After taking an overnight train from Tashkent, we spent the day in Khiva trying local foods, exploring the winding streets of the old town chatting to the locals and dancing with the Uzbek's of the Fergana Valley! To travel to the Silk Road cities of Uzbekistan has been a dream of ours since we can remember! This is just the beginning of our travels across this beautiful country and we can't wait to travel deeper into the history, culture & of course the food of Uzbekistan! 🇺🇿

WE PARTIED WITH THE UZBEK'S OF THE SILK ROAD (Traveling to Khiva, Uzbekistan) 🇺🇿
I was in Uzbekistan on a business trip for 2 months and traveled almost the whole country. I was making a film about this country. I can say with confidence that this is the safest country. We walked around the city and villages at night with cameras and nothing happened to us. Uzbeks are very hospitable and intelligent people. They are a people with a great age-old culture. Wonderful art, craft, and very delicious cuisine. Uzbekistan is very clean! In Uzbekistan, you will not meet homeless people, drunks or drug addicts. I fell in love with this fabulous country. Uzbekistan is like a pearl hidden from the world! Friends, be sure to go to Uzbekistan and you will get acquainted with a great civilization and a people) Greetings from Moscow!)
Couldn't agree more 🤗
It's heartwarming when you meet loving kind people like him!❤
Glad you enjoyed it 🥰❤️
I love how friendly the people are in Uzbekistan and you can tell they really love life. You guys are living the life away from the rat race and time commitments. Very smart of you and I wish I could have done some of that instead of working so hard. Memories last a lifetime and you'll have plenty of good memories to look back on.
Thank you so much Joanne! Really appreciate it, lots of love 🥰❤️
I have no words that describe the epicness of this video. I've watched it 3 times, there's just so much. It's like a personal guided tour through Uzbekistan culture and cuisine and how beautiful the people are.
Oh my god! Thank you so much @DireWolf this comment means the world, so glad you enjoyed it that much and the culture came across! 🥰❤️🙏🏻
@@MattandJulia I would love to travel with you folks! Thank you for everything you do! 🙏
Uzbekistan seems really modern and beautiful. another great video. 💘
Thank you Barbara ❤️
You guys are so cute.
I have tears in my eyes. What wonderful people we have in Uzbekistan. I give my life for my homeland
So glad you enjoyed it Abduhamid! Love your country 😍
@@MattandJulia Спасибо Юля мне действительно нравится ваше видео. И Вы тоже, Вы супер 👍👍👍 Пошёл смотреть очерелное видео про Самарканд
Such a beautiful place! It is so wonderful to see kindness shown to others, when the taxi driver didn't want to take your money. I love it!
It was so strange! Just unbelievable kindness! I have no idea how to react to it 😲
I completely understand! I have trouble the rare times I encounter it myself. I always want to refuse because I'm afraid I'm causing hardship on someone if I accept something. But I have been told that by refusing, we take a blessing away from the person who is giving. Because for some, for me too, one of the greatest things, is giving to others and seeing joy on their faces and knowing maybe I helped them in some way. It feels awkward but it is so amazing to see.
I can see how friendly the people are. You're lucky you can speak to them. I only speak English and French so it would be much harder to communicate. But kindness goes a long way even when you don't have a common language. I would love to travel the Silk Road.
We are sure even a language barrier wouldn't stop the kindness of people here 😊 and actually quite a few young people can speak English well 🥰
Welcome to our country guys, have fun there!❤️
Rakhmat Shakha! ❤️❤️❤️
Everything is so beautiful! People are very friendly there. The Silk road is amazing. Julia, you had so much fun dancing! Go girl!! Safe travels. Love and hugs to you both. 💕💕
Thank you so much Julie! Love to you! ❤️❤️❤️
Your dancing, and conversation with the ladies is beautiful and pure joy. Thank you so much for sharing! Your videos are so wonderful! Safe travelling onwards!
Thank you so Much Eliza! Really appreciate it 🥰❤️
Yes, the silk road buildings, tiles, dancing ladies and people are amazing but... Uzbek kitten for the win!
Haha, she was the cutest!😍
I would expect to see more of Tashkent. Such a beautiful and impressive city.
Lots more to come, including Tashkent 😊
@@MattandJulia Great, thanks.
Wow this was ultrainteresting. Very beautiful place, train station cristal Clean, great train, incredible city, and the people just as cute as you guys, fun dance. Interesting food, super cool.
Thank you so much Lucy!!
I love the idea of all these women just enjoying music and dancing together! What a great experience!
❤️❤️❤️
Guys, it's so nice to see you in my hometown 😃
The city is preserved in its original form, like an open-air museum.
Thank you for the awesome video 💯
Thank you very much Amir! We love your hometown so much! Raxmat! 😍
So much kindness. Your videos really capture the generosity of the human spirit - loved this one.
So glad you enjoyed it Mark! 🤗❤️
Your videos are amazing! I’m so thrilled to learn more about these beautiful cultures that I knew nothing about. Thank you for sharing ❤️
Thank you soo much! Really happy to hear that you are enjoying our videos 🤗❤️
The people you see along this journey are so beautiful! So friendly it war,s my heart to see the kindness! Love this video! You two are incredible, kudos to you Julia just jumping in and dancing - I love it ❤️ thank you for sharing this beautiful journey!
Great video! What a fascinating place Uzbekistan is. The people seem so friendly and the views are amazing. I was just admiring the architecture, the plates, and the textiles. It seems like a very lovely culture. I also learned a new British term. I will have to try it in a sentence tomorrow (knackered).
Haha, I hope you have been saying it every day Marcia 😉 We certainly do! 😴😃
Ahh Julia certainly got her groove on with the ladies of the Silk Road...lol...what an amazing country...watching the rugs and carpets being made...6 months to complete just 1...WOW...such skill and dedication...
very good video . Good luck welcome to Uzbekistan.
Raxmat Husniddin!! ❤️
This is one of your videos that I enjoyed the most, beautiful! Really felt part of the journey. Khiva is such an amazing city, beautiful architecture and wonderful atmosphere, would love to visit one day. You joining in with the dancers warmed my heart Julia! I also loved the clip on the meal you enjoyed, Khiva food looks yummy! Such a kind taxi driver too, almost makes one feel "guilty". Did I notice a kitten in the video though? 😳😉😁 Thanks again for this feelgood video! 🥰
Oooh Johan, thank you so much from the bottom of our hearts 🥰
Means the world to us that you enjoyed this video so much! ❤️❤️❤️
Taxi driver was definitely one of a kind and yes that was a little kitten 😏 hehehe 😉
Amazing content in this one, Julia & Matt! Your adventures are captivating!
Thank you so much Marc! ❤️❤️❤️
Спасибо за прекрасный контент ❤️
You guys continue to amaze us with your knowledge of the history of ancient city of Khiva. The vlog was very informative and entertaining. Julia, your dance moves looked fun.
Having fun with the locals is what makes your trips worthwhile and priceless. Sending you lots of love💖💖 Harriet and Jim. Richmond, Va.
Thank you so much guys, lots of love to you both ❤️❤️❤️
Love the way you both describe the food you eat and how you make a point of trying local dishes.
A great mathimatician Al-Khorezimi who invented Algebra was born there. Also ,"Algorithm" comes from his name
I looove that most of your videos are Interactions with local people, food and customs, not just views as most of other travel channels put
Welcome to our UZBEKISTAN 🇺🇿❤️❤️ Our doors are open for everyone
How do you not have a travel show? You two are the perfect hosts with such unique perspective based on your multicultural backgrounds. HBO, if you’re watching, what are you waiting for? You two are really great world ambassadors. ❤️
Haha, sounds like a plan 😀 we won't turn you down HBO! 😉❤️
Asking Julia whether she had the money reminds me of my trip through Munich security. My wife had the tickets so when I was asked by the armed guards for my pass I asked her. The guards both made rude remarks about the English. Uzbekistan seems to be a better place to visit :)
Hahaha, no judgement from the cabbie 😃
Wait wait wait - noodles made with dill? My life is incomplete without these! 😍
They are insane!! 😍
Just wonderful to watch.
Khiva is absolutely gorgeous. The architecture is stunning and pristine. And I can now fully see why Matt fell in love with you Julia...you have such a charming, wonderful personality. Matt don't worry you're awesome too lol. But I have to say you guys are the pinnacle of self control- I would want to buy everything I see: the rugs, the cushions, the dishes...everything. And the people are just wonderful and friendly. Every video I love your vlog more and more. Thanks for taking us along on this amazing journey. 🥰😍
Thank you so much Nix! So glad you enjoyed it!
I can too, she is the absolute best 😍❤️
So happy to have you along with us!! 🥰
Last year I came to Uzbekistan, I am expect, I have been to Khiva, Samakand, Bukhara, Arap sea. It is beautiful country. this year I will come back there, I hope that you share many nice landscapes. thank you
Тусовка в Хиве явно удалась! Все танцующие явно были на позитиве и получили массу гормонов удовольствия!
Это было очень неожиданно и от этого ещё прекраснее 😊
So fresh country clean sity & nice people
❤️❤️❤️
This place, Khiva, is so unique! You have done an outstanding job at making go through your filming the very spirit and feel of that place, really amazing!
Thank you so much Annabel ❤️
Beautiful country lovely people thank you for making these videos you guys are awesome.
So happy you enjoyed it 🥰❤️
As Uzbekistans , I say thank you
Oh you guys!!! This was the best yet!! From the music to food to dancing in the street. So wonderful. I was surprised that so many women had uncovered heads in a mainly Islamic town. I would have had a hard time leaving. Thank you.!!
Thank you so much Samantha! 😊
Welcome Uzbekistan
Rakhmat! ❤️
The architecture is stunning,I mean the railway stations are amazing. Could you visit Uzbekistan if you only spoke English?
A really good vlog offering something unique and original on UA-cam, cheers.
You can, but it's always good (and fun!) to learn at least a couple words/phrases (hello/goodbye, please/thank you, that sort of thing) in the local language if you can. :)
@@aq5426 Thanks for that.
Glad you enjoyed it Nick! 😊 Yeah for sure you could, especially if you are aiming for the Silk Road cities and Tashkent, there is always people that speak English, English signs etc 😊
Dear Nick, always welcome. Just few words - Hello - Salom, Goodbye - Hayer, Please - Iltimos, Thank you - Rahmat )))
Julia, you are so cute! Loved seeing you dancing with those women! My younger sister has your personality but I’d be the one that started dancing! People seem so nice in Uzbekistan!❤
Go Julia!! Look at those dance moves! You go girl!!! The food looks amazing and the people seemed so friendly!!!
Haha, thank you Cristina!! 💃

Thanks! For your hard work and wonderful videos. I hope you guys are able to keep traveling for years to come. 🌎❣️
Thank you so much! We honestly really appreciate your support ❤️❤️❤️
I’m so glad I could do a little something. Your videos have really cheered me up. Being stuck in a little town in Oklahoma hasn’t been easy during the pandemic. My husband also love your videos. We plan on traveling after are last kiddo leaves the nest. We hope your able to travel for as long as you want to. Your bubbly happiness comes through the camera. Thank you both for your hard work. With all the negative things happening in the world today we need more people like you both to make it better. To remind people that we are all just people not enemies trying to just live and find happiness. ❤️
Facinating 🌸🌸
Glad you enjoyed it! 🥰
What a sweet people uzbeks are
I always love your travels and the people. They are so friendly and looks like Julia is having all the fun! I did not see a Mcdonald's or Burger King... That's what I like, eat like the locals, the food looked great also. I would love to have a taste!
Thank you so much Michael! For sure, no fast food joints in sight which really helps you feel the culture ❤️
Lot of Arabian inspiration in the buildings.
Another place, different beauties. Thanks.
❤️❤️❤️
watching the weaving at 1.75 speed was really amazing
Really enjoying your channel. Kia kaha from NZ.
Thank you so much! Love to NZ!
Hi there.
Am watching it.
All the way
South Africa
Thanks!
Thank you so much Alex! Really appreciate your support!!! ❤️❤️❤️
The world is beautiful, but not everyone sees it with the same "lens." Our lenses are alike 😊🙏
Wow fantastic vlog, you both are creating magic from camera 🤩, waiting for more ✌️lots of love to both of you 💝 #fan
Thank you so much mate! ❤️
❤️ ❤️
Ohh welcome to Khiva
Thank you 🤗❤️
How much fun was it Julia to join the ladies dancing?
Another awesome video. Such friendly people. Although I must admit I couldn’t travel by train that way. It’s like a giant slumber party with people you don’t know😂😂😂😂😂🥰🥰. This is strictly a grandmother question because I’m a grandmother BUT do your folks worry about you traveling all around like you do? I’m not related to you and I worry about you. 😂😂😂. The food looked amazing and the dancing 💃 was awesome Julia. You did not miss a beat or step. Maybe you should become a professional when you are done traveling. Stay safe. ❤️❤️❤️
Haha, everyone becomes like one big family for 14 hours 😀
Erm, yes and no. I'm sure they do but also, they trust our judgment and know its our passion 😊
Thank you so much!!! ❤️❤️❤️
Nice video 👌
Thank you so much! 😊
I love your videos guys
Tha k you so much Nathan! 😊❤️
I get tired watching you guys going in and out on trains and taxis ,and buses . Don't you ever get tired of the whole thing ???? . Love your videos ❤️❤️❤️❤️
For sure! We have discovered that "burnout" is a real thing. Every so often now we are trying to take a few days to just chill and switch off. But it's hard 😀❤️
What's great about Khiva is that there are hardly any cars and no traffic, at least in the parts they were.
For sure, the entire old town felt like a pedestrian zone 😊
Respekt!👏👏👏
Thank you for showing our country to the world. I hate it when some people ask if we have a war going on or if if we have instability
Love Uzbekistan so much 😍❤️
❤
Russians pop out of the womb as great dancers. Julia is no exception.
Haha, I literally moonwalked my way out 😁
Beautiful my friend
💕💕💕💕💕💕💕👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Thank you Nadeem 😊
the dancing part was heart warming, beautiful colourful women
One of your best videos! Awesome! Just curious, is it considered proper to tip at a restaurant?
Thank you so much Gary! 🙏🏻 Tipping is optional in Uzbekistan 🙂 some restaurants add it on automatically, but mainly it is your choice 😊
When I need some backing dancers, I’m defo hiring Julia! 👌🏽 …who am I kidding, Julia would be the main dancer!
Hahaha, it is a deal! 😀💕
Wonderful taxi man🌷🌷🌷There are good taxi drivers 👏Accept kindness as before you might have done a kindness..who ever you believe in is paying you back🌷🌷so clean there!!
He was an incredibly friendly guy! 😊In the end we thought we might offend him if we insisted he took the cash ❤️
We love your videos, we always watch them on the television but we noticed the audio is hard to understand sometimes, there is a lot of background noise, maybe something to look into? Anyways wanted to let you know, great videos we really enjoy them :)
Thank you very much 😊
Love your adventures. A map would have helped here.
Glad you enjoyed it 🙂
The city where Al-Khwarizmi (The Father of Algebra) was born!
Incredible ❤️
You both continue to amaze us with your channel. This past summer Stanley Tucci drew large TV audiences (high production) with his food tour of Italy, your travel and food reviews are better. Perhaps you will become the newer and younger replacement for Anthony Bourdain..
Thank you so much Velocita! That sounds like an offer you could never refuse 😀
Я потписалса на вашем профили это моя родина 🥰🥰🥰🥰🇺🇿
Спасибо большое 🤗❤️
Great vlog. Thanks for putting the U.S. dollar price. I'm always wondering how much it cost. Julia you are a good dancer. I believe you've done that before.
Thank you Kathy! Haha, love a good dance 😃❤️
If you ever come to Utah to can stay at our place and dine with us ☺️
Sounds absolutely perfect! Would love that! 🥰
@@MattandJulia I'm serious .. we have an extra room that we use for our daughter and her husband when they come to visit us from Nova Scotia. They are about your age..I think that's part of why I adore you kids. 💕
1:50 That's like one in a million. Most/much of the time, it's the other way around.
For sure! We are still in shock ngl!
Uzbekistan hello samarqand
There are variations of plov in Uzbekistan. The best one, it's my opinion, is in Samarkand and Bukhara. I didn't like Fergana's one. It was too oily for me but then again could have had it in a wrong place. Also when in Samarkand have you tried their lepeshka? Was so delicious!
Oh yeah, we tired that! The bread is amazing there! I love learning about different breads and bakes in particular as it is a big passion of mine! To be honest with you, I was never that much into plov, even though my family used to cook it a lot. But Uzbekistan changed me, I’m addicted to it now haha! I agree that some can be a bit too heavy and oily for sure, I absolutely loved the one in the plov centre in Tashkent !
@@MattandJulia I love plov, manti, samsa and lagman as well. Hopefully will travel back to Uzbekistan at one point..I never been to Khiva. Your video blog is amazing about the city. Would like to see it as well. Also want to travel close to Aral sea. Maybe next year, got to save up money.🤣
Some places, tipping is considered an insult, like Bali, even hacks won't,"keep the change".
This guy didn't even want the full amount on his meter! 😩
@@MattandJulia When I was in Lahore,Pakistan, they had Suzuki Vans
used for public transportation, one rupee about 3 cents US per ride, they would
not take my Rupee, once a driver did and everyone yelled,"he is a visitor to
our country you cannot charge him",he gave it back.

Hi,
I am curious as to whether all of the food here contains meat /dairy / eggs? I am thinking about racing in Samarkand in September but as my diet is entirely plant based I am concerned that there may be a problem.
thanks
Я могу на ваш вопрос ответить так что еда в Узбекистане в целом в большинстве содержит мясо , то есть блюда, но и у нас есть многие блюда без содержания мяса и белка
Matt, your Russian is amazing. I think you shock everyone you speak to
Thank you very much Mary 😊
