  • In this video we take time to show a lot of the detailed disassembly of the Dyson HD01 Hair Dryer. This video is recorded with better resolution than previous repair videos and will be my go to for disassembly. I will also upload a Reassembly video after the Dyson HD01 Hair Dryer Repair #3 video. I will also have a video looking inside of the filter on the Dyson cord called "What's inside of the Dyson Mystery Box?" and I will also take time to look at the GFCI as well in that video. Hope you find these videos helpful or at least interesting. Thanks for watching!

    I'd like to add my thanks for the excellent series of videos on the Dyson hairdryer. I'm a fairly advanced DIY kind of guy, but I don't think I would have tackled the Dyson hairdryer without your videos, and if I did I'd have broken a lot of parts trying to figure out how it is assembled. My daughters quit because of a thermal fuse failure so I replaced it. Seems to be common for the one on the left to fail. A couple of months later, it failed again. That causes me to think that whatever is supposed to control the heat isn't functioning properly. I checked the thermistor and it seems to be functioning - resistance changes when heat is applied. I'm wondering if the bimetal gismo is supposed to open temporarily when the unit gets overheated, and if so, if that might not be working properly? One recommendation I have for getting the back cover off the top assembly (housing for the heating element) is to make a couple of 1/8" spacers (metal strap works well) with a crescent shaped cutout matching the curvature of the housing. Pry the cover up carefully and wedge them in between the cover and the housing. Then push one around to the other side, leaving the first one in place. That works well for me.

    • @ThriftyToolShed
      @ThriftyToolShed  2 місяці тому

      It could be something going on with the thermal cut out strip for sure. I would think it would normally activate before the thermal fuse would open. After all the thermal fuse should be the last resort. I feel like one reason these fail maybe contributed to how the handle is held sometimes. If this is on high and running really hot and somehow the intake filter gets covered by hand or maybe even long hair in some cases it could cause the air flow to decrease so fast that it causes the fuses to open especially if tilted on its side with even more heat rising quickly and it's not held straight up. Another cause could be the dryer is bumped or dropped at some level while still really hot and that may cause the fuse to open. Just some possible causes since I see many viewers comment on this being a common issue it does seem. They really do run hot and it's tight temperature control, but the thermal fuse has to be running really close to it's rating on high possibly.

      @@ThriftyToolShed Ended up with yet another Dyson and ... I didn't even check if it tried to work, went for the fuses directly! They turned out fine so now I'm putting it together again to see what happens when I power it on. Stupid me.

    At about 9:40, there is a retaining ring on the back of the front cover. I assume this dryer has been disassembled and reassembled already. You probably left out the retaining ring when you reassembled it.

    • @ThriftyToolShed
      @ThriftyToolShed  2 місяці тому

      I thought that was mentioned in one of the repair videos if not this one also. That retaining ring is in-between the halves. This dryer has broken tabs from a previous repair attempt or maybe even a drop? So yeah, it easily popped off as you can see the tabs are broken.

    I just bought the Dyson super sonic yesterday. When I got home. I plugged it up to make sure it worked but when I turned it off it started smoking for a few seconds. Will this go away? Or should I return it?

    • @ThriftyToolShed
      @ThriftyToolShed  2 місяці тому

      In my opinion it depends on how much smoke honestly. If a little bit from possible oil on the elements burns off and goes away then it should be fine. If it was a fair amount of smoke and it does not go away I would absolutely return it. They cost too much to gamble with for sure. I can't say for sure since I have never seen if one does that brand new. Anyone else on here have experience with a brand new one doing that?

    I’ve taken mine apart and replaced the thermal fuse as it had gone but now got 3 flashing red leds. Previously it did nothing at all so it’s progress but it still won’t turn on and still flashes red. I can turn motor by hand and it feels almost springy? Unsure if that’s how they’re meant to be. Any advice appreciated

    • @ThriftyToolShed
      @ThriftyToolShed  4 місяці тому +1

      The motor has very strong magnetic poles and you can feel the heavy drag of the magnetic field while trying to rotate. Likes it's fighting you to turn it.(Like It coggs) That being said, all I can think to check is making sure the Thermistor is plugged in correctly. It seems like a temperature issue. I think I shared more details of the thermistor temp. sensor on the HD01 repair #3 video. Best of luck to ya!
