Amy Grant has 6 Grammys, 22 Gospel Dove awards, and is married to a man with few Grammys himself, Vince Gill, who has 22 Grammys. Lots of shiny things to look at in their household. Two of the nicest people on the face of the Earth too.
I've never had the pleasure of meeting Vince Gill, but I met Amy several times in the late 80s and early 90s. A good friend worked for a local concert promoter and she always got me a quick meet-and-greet with Amy after every concert I attended. Sweetheart is the only word that describes my opinion of her. She was always so warm and kind to fans....a truly special human being! Nobody sounds quite like her, either.
They seem genuinely nice. That's probably why so many people were so disappointed when they cheated on their spouses and left them to marry each other. It was quite a fall from grace for each of them and neither got their careers back on track afterward.
@@sivonni There is zero evidence that they ever cheated on their first spouses. Amy learned about Vince's divorce from reading the newspapers. Amy Grant was the queen of Christian pop in the 80 s and early 90s. She was the most successful Christian artist to crossover into pop music with the album, Heart in motion
When she cheated on her husband and then did the divorce and remarriage thing I took her CD *Heart In Motion* off of the Christian shelf and put it with my secular collection and at the same time moved the CD *Twisted Sister* - _Stay Hungry_ to the Christian shelf.
Peter Cetera has one of the best voices in rock but also one of the most distinctive. Besides Michael McDonald, when you hear Peter sing you know who it is immediately.
Interesting fact... they each had one #1 hit for two weeks on the Billboard Hot 100 as solo artists, and this duet #1, "The Next time I Fall", in September 1986. Peter Cetera had the #1, "Glory of Love" from the Karate Kid II in June 1986. Amy Grant had the #1 "Baby, Baby" in February 1991.

Amy Grant is a popular artiste' of Christian (esque;) music, along w: Michael W. Smith as the best friends of many "Gospel-pop' " hits like their duet of his "Friends"!🙏🎵🕊️
This came out when I was in high school. OH the memories this brings back, 38 years ago and it seems like yesterday! Both singers can bring back memories but Peter Cetera's voice is magical. The Glory of Love is another one of his that I love!
You actually said it backwards. Peter Cetera was one of the original members from 1968 and left the band in 1985 to pursue a solo career. 3 men in the band normally shared singing lead vocals in the early days (Peter Cetera on bass guitar & vocals, Terry Kath on lead guitar & vocals, and Robert Lamm on keyboards & vocals).
This song caused so much controversy in my house. Amy Grant started out as a contemporary Christian artist with songs like Father's Eyes and El Shadi. This was her first secular release. You coming from a similar background I'm sure can imagine how my parents felt about this. It didn't go over well. She became the first of many artist that started in the Christian music arena and moved over to secular stations. Love all of her stuff! ❤
What really was hard on her is she came out with her song baby baby - which is what she sang to her baby. Just the video is with another guy (not her husband at the time - Gary Chapman) and the Christian people had a cow!
I got to see Amy Grant at Last Chance Summer Dance in 97....My first ever concert at 15! Lineup was Coolio, Ces Cru, Robyn, Sister Hazel, Richard Marx, Meredith Brooks, & Gina G....Must do Glory of Love by Peter next!! 🙌🙏
You know Peter is the lead singer of Chicago. Amy Grant is best known for her Christian music. They were never in the same room while filming this video.
And while yeah, Peter drowns her out a bit in this song, there is no competition on who was the more successful singer lol. Amy just has a softer voice and Peter is power incarnate. Not remotely a knock on Peter Cetera either, man is a legend and VERY well deserved. Just Amy has a soft and gentle voice. Worth checking out some of her stuff too.
The band itself which at the time was named Chicago Transit Authority was formed in 1967 and he was an original member along with Terry Kath, Robert Lamm, Lee Loughnane, James Pankow, Walter Parazaider and Danny Seraphine.
I have always said that Peter was one of those unique, inspirational, and memorable voices of Rock-'n'-roll: think Steve Perry and Elton John, just to name two. With Chicago and in his solo work his voice and vocal range/tricks are instantly recognized. Amy has a lovely, light singing voice. A few of her Christian singles crossed over to the pop radio stations. A great pairing for this song even if Peter did seem to take over during the second half.
Peter was in Chicago since the beginning of their career! There was a different sound in Chicago in 70's and 80's though. Amy has got a voice on her for sure.
This song was written by Bobby Caldwell ("What You Won't Do For Love'). You pronounced Cetera correctly. Amy Grant started as the princess of Contemporary Christian Pop. She got shit for singing mainstream music, but she did it anyway. Had a big hit with "Baby, Baby" in the early 90s and went from there. She does an annual Christmas show on a short tour.
4:31 I’ve always loved Peter Cetera’s voice. I lost track of Amy Grant when she focused mainly on Christian music cause it wasn’t my type of music back then. Peter Cetera was part of Chicago from 1967 to 1985. He sang lead for some songs. “Stay the Night”, “25 or 6 to 4”, “Hard to say I’m sorry”, “Love me Tomorrow”, “Hard Habit to Break”, “You’re the inspiration” and “Along Comes a Woman”. He ended up leaving Chicago due to the rigorous touring schedule. He would’ve stayed with Chicago if they gave him the same kind of deal that Phil Collins and Genesis had so Phil could do his solo career and still be with Genesis. Cetera had some great solo success also. You should check out his duet with Cher called “After All” it’s from the 1989 movie “Chances Are”.
This track hit #1 on the HOT 100 in 1986! This was one of two times Amy Grant hit #1 on the HOT 100, the other time being with her big hit "Baby Baby" in 1991! You should also check that one out as well! Great track!
Peter Cetera was with Chicago from the start. He shared lead vocals with Terry Kath and Robert Lamm. After the death of Terry Kath in 1978, Peter was pretty much the lead vocalist. Peter left the band in 1985 after the tour to support the Chicago 17 album that came out in 1984. Peter wanted to take downtime from the band after tours, so he could focus on solo stuff as well as still work with Chicago, but the band said no, so he left the band for a solo career. Jason Scheff replaced Peter Cetera on lead vocals. I remember this was big news in the music world in '85, then around the same time David Lee Roth left Van Halen for a solo career, which really shocked the music world.

Cetera wanted a relatively unknown duet partner. Grant was very well known as the "Queen of Christian Pop", but not in the mainstream. Someone at his record company suggest Grant and he loved her voice. It was a great boost for her crossover career. Her voice is very unique and distinct, just like his.
I heard an interview with Michael O'Martian (on Rick Beato), who produced this song. Amy Grant was not Cetera's first choice. When O'Martian recommended Amy Grant, Cetera said "Who's Amy Grant?" O'Martian then took Cetera to an Amy Grant concert that was packed out and as they say..."the rest is history."

Thanks for the flashes back. 💕 (Trivia: Cetera lived outside of Ketchum, ID **Hailey, ID** with his 2nd wife Diane Nini. We owned an archery business in that area. In 1998, my now-ex was hired to guide a hunt that included Cetera's then ex-wife Diane Nini, her new partner, world renowned glass sculpture-ist William "Bill" Morris, and some others. Diane Nini had just survived breast cancer, was a world-class archer, and the co-writer of Cetera's song "Glory of Love" and others. Bill Miller's glass sculptures are lauded as some of the best in the world. I hadn't thought of all of this in maybe 20 years. Being from that area, I worked for/with many rich, famous, and infamous, but these types of meetings/interactions were much more memorable than my professional life stuff. Cetera still lives there, although he's sold his studio where much of his post-Chicago projects were recorded. Fascinating people, some of the nicest I knew in those types of circles.)
I vividly remember the controversy this song caused in Christian circles. Amy was the top selling contemporary Christian artist of the 80s and when she did this secular love song as a duet with someone other than her husband, it caused a huge stir in church circles. She did it again with Vince Gill and sure enough around that time she divorced her contemporary Christian artist husband Gary Chapman and married Vince Gill. Her secular releases became very successful around that transition time, and has been happily married with several more kids ever since❤ We were rabidly interested in the private lives of our gospel artists back then and a lot of them who divorced lost their careers. Very few made a successful pivot like Amy 👏
I was a teen when this 🎶 came out & I always 💕 this song. I never 🤔 about it but you were right Peter was just showing all of his skills on this song. You had me 😂 up. I think you should listen to Amy' s song Baby Baby since I ❤ that song too 😊
Written by Bobby Caldwell and Paul Gordon. Produced by Michael Omartian. He produced/wrote with/for Amy Grant, the late Dinna Summer, USA for Africa 🌍 and others. Peter Cetera is Catholic. Just as I am. He wanted to become a priest. But, he changed his mind, becoming a professional musician, forming Chicago. Amy Grant did the crossover L 🤣L (pun unintentional) into commercial music. She was unsure, checking with her Evangelical background. She checked out Cetera, a fellow Christian, and the writers and agreed 👍. 5 years later, Amy Grant released her 1st album of commercial music. Funny story when I was in grade school in the 80s we did this music show where we all played music artists and I was Peter Cetera and there was a chick that played Amy and we did an interview then sang this duet together. Holy crap what a step back into the past. She’s married to my fellow Okie and music legend Vince Gill! I have a favorite of Amy’s will be from her Christian music of the 80s called El Shedaii
Peter Cetera sang with Chicago. Amy Grant is a successful Christian singer married to Vince Gil who currently sings with the Eagles.

Steve Lukathor from TOTO did the guitars in that song.
Peter sang lead for Chicago! Recognize the voice? Check out The Glory of Love by him for Karate Kid.
We sure had the vocalists back then!
Thanks for the flashes back. 💕
(Trivia: Cetera lived outside of Ketchum, ID **Hailey, ID** with his 2nd wife Diane Nini.

Great song. I'm still waiting for a reaction to a Crosby, Stills , Nash ( and sometimes Young) song. They were huge in the 70's & 80's. Their big hits were WOODSTOCK, TEACH YOUR CHILDREN, SOUTHERN CROSS, GUINEVERE and one for the ages, SUITE JUDY BLUE EYES!!! PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE!
Pete Cetera=Chicago.❤
hey, BP!!!! ask your pops if he remembers Amy Grant... she was a constant in my church back in the day...oh yeah, she's definitely the backup on this song...
Amy was huge during my generation of Christian music during the 80s
This is a great one!
Any Grant is married to Vince Gill. She has a great voice with her own catalog respectfully! Yes Peter G has a great voice and Catalog!
Absolute fire💗
Cetera was a bad ass bass player with Chicago
