- This video is all about the many different trout species found in North America. I go over some simple identification as well as the different geographical ranges in which anglers can target certain species of fish.
This is an awesome beginners guide. As a fish nerd, I would love to see a more in depth video on all the subspecies of cutthroat trout. Great work and a great watch!
What about the Artic char? Or the two subspecies of Dolly Varden, Northen and southern. Also, the CutBow or Bowcut trout which naturally occurs in rivers where Rainbow and Cuththroat trout overlap.
And the extinct Silver Trout
What about artic char?
This is another great video man! Trout have to be my favorite family of fish. they are some of the prettiest fish ever! The gila and brown are 2 of my favorites, you cant beat a nice brook though. The browns and cutthroat in the logan river are super pretty if anyone is around here!
Thanks! I haven't fished the Logan river yet but it's definitely on my list!
just be carefull with trout they are very sensitive and have one of thehighest death after release rates.
Enjoyed it but you missed out on a common hybrid that is common in the wild of the Northwest.... CuttBows
Good...didn't watch it.
Man it sucks that no one knows the most colorful char, the arctic char which hails from Maine and Alaska. Kinda disappointed it didn’t make it in the video.
I really liked this video. Trout are the best. Maybe you could do a video about the different types of bass in Utah.
I love that idea! I think that I probably will.
Amazing vid keep it up
Thank you so much! I deeply appreciate it!
This video taught me some interesting stuff about trout grate video.
@@isaiahgiordani I'm so glad to hear that you learned something! Thanks for watching!
Truly enjoyed this. Thank you.
@@nydarkfern Thanks for watching! I appreciate it!
We have river systems in Alberta where bull trout have cross bread with brookies. Also know of places where tiger trout have occurred naturally in brown/brookie creeks
what about the silver trout? is it considerable part of the trout's of north america too? even if is consider extinct in the wild, isn't worth to be mentioned aswell? just a wonder of me because i think it's pretty unique and peculiar, almost like a cryptid specie and if you have some info to share about this specie or that you can share or inform us would be great or cool to hear about, thanks anyway for this video about trouts, have a great day
It's probably a searun brown
You left out Arctic Char. I believe that picture of a Dolly Varden was actually an Arctic Char. They're very similar.
I love trout fishing so much I don't even do it anymore... Living in West slope range with 600 feet of creek and beaver. 🤞
Where is the arctic grayling at?
very fun and educational video!
Thank you! I'm glad you enjoyed it.
Sparctic char (In German: Elsässer Saibling) is a cross between the brook tout and the Arctic char that occurs both in hatcheries and naturally.
It is a fertile cross that can reproduce.
The name sparctic char is a combination of speckled trout and Arctic char.
In North America they can be found in many lakes, but are not recognized as such, but determined as 'brook trout' or 'Arctic char'.
In Europe, they are sometimes extensively stocked because they are hardier than both parent species and grow to a good size.
Why did you leave out the Arctic char?
Because it is the only char that isn't called a 'trout'? (Like brook trout, lake trout, dolly varden trout and bull trout?)
Are speckled trout a subspecies?
Speckled trout aren’t a true trout, they are related to drum species.
Cutbows? Failed to mention this common trout
Those are more of a hybrid
There are Dolly's in Oregon as well.
Although they are rare correct? I live in Alaska, we have a daily limit of 2 dollys, I believe that the size minimum is 4 inches, and that’s it. They taste good, I’ve also seen Dolly+Rainbow+coastal cutthroat
awesome
Informative and entertaining as always
Thanks so much!
lots of good info here! good job!
Thanks so much!
Thank you.
lake trout in missouri..... I assume that was the white river watershed. they only have rainbow and brown.
Many people don’t believe that a Gila trout is only in Mexico but I have a 22 inch Gila trout mounted and found out at the taxidermy and questioned by wardens about where I caught it but only give them a general area and I told them that I know there are two because I caught them. I was supervised to actually find out it was a Gila
Great video
Thanks!
I don’t think Cutthroat trout have been introduced in CT, I could be wrong but just wanted to let ya know, great video tho!
I can guess the part of the country you live..... west... right? You failed to mention one of the most popular trout among anglers in the Appalachians.
The golden rainbow trout in WV.
So cool!
ughhh I love trout 😩
Why di they stock sooooo many tiger trout in utah🎉
@@rustbeltwilds837Tiger trout weren't common at all until recent years. When they started stocking them they became extremely popular because they were a new species to many anglers and an alternative to rainbow trout which everyone has seen. Also like many other stocked trout species, they are sterile and easily controlled. Also they put up a great fight!
McCloud species in Missouri, Huzzah
I'm in agreement with 4Life, if you're even bothering to catch and release you shouldn't even pull it out of the water... Stress and fish mortality vary and trout are up there IMO
No Sunapee trout? Damn
uuuuuum. Missing half the map to call it North America........Canada. Saturated with all the char species & most trout species.
My goal is to catch a male of each species for my wall in the 18 to 21 inches.
The only one I can think of is a “cutbow”. Rainbow X cutthroat
You missed one but very rare hybrid. Cheetah trout. They are a book/rainbow cross. I had the pleasure of catching one! I got it confirmed by fisheries biologist. Caught it in Lassen national park in Northern California.
As an identifier, all char have white strip on the leading edge of their fins.
Subbed
@@anthonyhagstrom Awesome! thank you!
It is hard to find a prettier fish than the brookie but long ear sunfish are the best looking freshwater fish by far
I agree, sunfish are absolutely beautiful!
I'm in my 70s and have caught many browns in Oregon...In the old days we called them German Browns....Gee, I guess that's no longer politically correct.....But they'll always be German Browns to me.....
Kamloops Trout
The onIy true trout are browns and they aren't native. Everything eIse are char or saImon.
I go over their native range in the video.
No cuttbows ?
@@duanekarlen5463 Cuttbows definitely exist but I chose not to include them in this video because of their identification complexities.
Cut bows are a hybrid of rainbows and cutthroats. Rainbow breeding with cutthroats is what has lead to the true cutthroats decline, along with loss of habitat, and competition with browns, rainbows, and brooks.
You need to do an episode on cutthroats and how they evolved, what led to the extinction of 2 of the 14 and efforts to get them back.
Tiger trout are amazing to catch. Super aggressive.
